I believe if the numbers were crunched on the 1 0, 1 and 2 win teams in the 1st round, it actually loses cash by the time officiating is factored in.  The home team absorbs a lot.

I agree that it's not profitable...the host makes nothing, and the lower seed incurs (usually) more expense than a region game, but TSSAA gets their cut regardless.

If you had paid attention in class, you would have understood that I was not talking about D 2 in my discussion. It was strictly a D 1 deal.  Go back and re-read what I proposed for D1. If you can, come up with something better and get back with us. And by the way, Try not to suck the next time.

Do your parents know your online ?

There are no "participation" trophies in this. It's set up the way it is for no other reason than the TSSAA's financial benefit, and it's not changing. The TSSAA doesn't care if North Greene or Johnson County get obliterated in round 1 and they don't get a participation trophy for being there.

True, I meant more that the trophy was being able to be in a playoff game vs. a physical trophy

That requires effort and resources. The current model requires neither. The current model includes more teams = more games = more cash.

Without going into a ton of explanation, here's Quad 1 and Quad 2, Class 1A playoffs out of 5. This year's computer rankings, the latest enrollment  (To 400).

Quad 1: 1-South Pittsburg 2-Coalfield 3-Polk County 4-Rockwood 5-Whitwell 6-Greenback 7-Lookout Valley 8-Oliver Springs

Quad 2: 1-Fayetteville 2-Moore County 3-Clay County 4-Gordonsville 5-Wayne County 6-Eagleville 7-Trousdale County 8-Cornersville

I think these first round matchups would be much more exciting for the most part. You also have the regular season games likely making much more money on average with less travel and more traditional/area rivalry.

You put more work into that post than the TSSAA puts into playoff brackets for all 9 classes. And for free.

    • RR, you might remember. Didn’t someone hide the kicking shoe that game? It seems I remember we had missed a kick the week before, and we needed all the points we could get. We thought we had a better chance going for two, so $?&@$ hid the shoe after the first miss that game. No one on our sideline looked for it very hard.
    • I will never forget the 1983 Heritage vs Maryville game. I remember driving home and listening to WGAP. Can't remember the announcers name. He asked Coach Story why he kept going for 2? Story told him " Why didn't you ask Renfro that last year"
    • TSSAA will let them all go to Mase.
    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
