Based on unapproved website algorithm, 2022 LA is the 30th best team in Tennessee since 2003.  unapproved website top 10 listed below and LA's info at #30. I would say 2022 LA is probably closer to the top 5 maybe top 3.

unapproved website is not the best at comparisons for one year vs. another, but unapproved website is a decent resource and predictor +/- 5 points within a given year.

For example, it predicts that 2022 LA would have beaten 2022 Baylor 40 to 28 if they played this year on a neutral field. That sounds about right.  It also predicts that if 2022 LA played the #1 2022 team nationally (St. John Bosco (Bellflower, CA)), 2022 St. John Bosco would have won 42 to 12.

Enjoy!

Corn Elder Ensworth teams felt like the best teams I’ve ever seen.

they no doubt wernt no slouches mr BT28....Bowers was puttin some serious products on the gridiron during that era....kinda like what Farris was startin to do at that restoration movement educatin institution down on granny white....

....Booger thinkin Bowers 2012 era teams didnt have the dirtbags down in the trenches to deal with this years LA tema....those couple MBA squads Bowers had just prior to the millennium might have been a threat to them mustangs...specially that 99 squad with Ingle at the helm and that defense

...that group of Mustangs on that CoC team that was playin down at Finley for that Gold ball was sumthin to watch tho.....no doubt a top 10 TN HS squad

I am not sure why the site link is not approved (it is a free resource that does not contain any forums, etc.). It is useful. In fact, unapproved website rankings use it (except for top 25).

In a debate over "who is the best", a data driven objective algorithm can be useful.  Otherwise, it is like arguing whether purple is a better color than blue.

purple is better.  fact.  : )

seriously, I love the data driven approach.  one reason I like the massey rankings.  one interesting note is I think there are only 4 top 100 wins in that list and that LA team has 2 including the highest overall.  I think the rest of the schedule just killed them in that respect.

You can't compare teams from the 50's to teams today. There's just no comparison. Look at an actual college roster from the 50s-60's many of us have Jr High or Freshmen in our system bigger than the biggest on those rosters. It's no dig at that era. Heck i last played in the late 00's and even from then to now there's been a ridiculous jump in overall talent.

I’m glad somebody said it! Because they didn’t play spread teams back in the day and they would be TOAST. Current WRs,QBs  would have a field day.

It's hardly even comparable. They're playing the same sport but it's almost totally different these days. I played in the mid to late 00's and it's way different from just then. Plus Kids get bigger stronger and faster every year, it's just not the same.

    • RR, you might remember. Didn’t someone hide the kicking shoe that game? It seems I remember we had missed a kick the week before, and we needed all the points we could get. We thought we had a better chance going for two, so $?&@$ hid the shoe after the first miss that game. No one on our sideline looked for it very hard.
    • I will never forget the 1983 Heritage vs Maryville game. I remember driving home and listening to WGAP. Can't remember the announcers name. He asked Coach Story why he kept going for 2? Story told him " Why didn't you ask Renfro that last year"
    • TSSAA will let them all go to Mase.
    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
