Could this be an appealing job? Any athletes ?

This job could be appealing to a coach who wants to compete for region titles for the next four seasons (at least) and have a shot at playing late into November. Toughest games on next year's schedule are at Marion Co and hosting Gordonsville. Region 4 hosts thru the semis next season.

Depth, skill, and experience will all be there. Returning players for Forrest will be a junior and a senior QB who have both started a season of high school ball. Four out of the five starting offensive lineman return. Forrest may have 4 out of the top 5 backs in Region 4 2A next season and they will be 9th, 10th and 11th graders. One RB will be at least 6'3" 200 pounds next season. He was grossly underused. We may have one of the fastest players in 2A. Another player should be one of the top receivers. Defense has to replace one LB and one lineman and will be better next season. We have some really good athletes no one has ever heard of because they didn't get opportunities last season. We have some really good players who haven't played since middle school roaming the halls.  The right guy can easily have over 80 guys on the roster next season and the biggest problem will be coming up with ways to get the ball to all the athletes.

Community support? Pride in the program?

Community support and pride in the program is as good as anywhere. Great mix of small town rural life on the edge of bigger cities. If the coach can run a modern, no huddle shotgun offense and consistently run plays before the play clock expires with 11 men on the field we may name a street after you and will without doubt sing your praises on the T.

Is there anyone being connected to this job? Did they have anyone in mind when they made the move or is there a desire for a younger coach with a modern offense?

Job search is wide open. A change was made with no successor in mind.  We have a competent middle school coach  who hasn't lost a game since 2020 who has to be considered but interest has been high. I don't care if he's young or old but offensive minded is a must.

Forrest should be able to compete for the top spot in the region. My, opinion, from an outsider prospective is the above is a  Homer's point of view.  They will definitely compete, but I still say Marion will have 2 of the top 5 backs in the region, so maybe yall have 3 of 5.  In my opinion if you are going to run a modern offense, you better find a qb, because that was yalls Achilles heel against mc, didnt really have one that could spin it.  Hard to run that type of offense with no threat of a pass.  Good luck on the coaching hire, it is always an exciting time when there is an opening.  The middle school coach may be great or maybe not.  There is a huge difference between middle and high school.  I hope the school don't settle just because he is familiar with the program.  If what General said is true then it may be hard to make the right hire with the administration thats in place.

Several in administration are transplants-- from San Francisco--not that there is anything wrong with that---Anyway, seeing how Chapel Hill is the cross-town rival, I called and inquired about the position--Specifically, I got them to guarantee to me that DEI would be a major factor in this hiring decision.  I may have set the program back a decade with one phone call.  I have nearly convinced my alternative lifestyle neighbor to apply-it said it would definitely alert all of it's friends that this inclusive position had been carved out for they/them.

    • Im asking everyone to keep roy whited and his family in your prayers. Coach whited won back to back state championships at white county in 98-99. He is very well liked and respected in this area. For those of you that dont know he went missing 3 days ago. No one knows where he is. His truck was found in a rural part of the county. Thanks again. We are all very concerned.
    • West would be a good team to get behind if they can pull it off again like last year. That championship game last year was awesome.
    • I say that because he stepped out of a MUCH better situation on his own than he would see at least his first 3 years at DCA and it would take at least that much to bring him back to coaching. There are other fish in the sea, but again money talks. Need to fix the girls hoops too. Now I'll try again. Who has Pierce locked in for his staff? Hearing a McGavock man but not the Iceman.
    • I’ve heard mostly good things from the gridiron. Lots of optimism. It sounds like the portal has mostly helped, though there are a few expected defections. Comeback year!
    • Rudesell 1 year at Crockett. Coach Tate 2 weeks a Bradford. South Gibson supposedly going with jcs middle school coach. Which isn’t who I thought would get it, I know the top 2 was between him and Obion girls head coach.
