Marion vs East Robertson

ER observations. In the mid 2000s, Forrest would boatrace ER. Multiple years in a row up to 2020, which was 10-0. All of a sudden they upset us 21-17 in '21.  '22 we go up there and get crushed. Last year they go to State and this year they have a great chance to go again. WTH.

Is this just better up and down players? Coaching?  Is it having a Groves and basically a 1 man band?

More people are moving to the area because of its proximity to Nashville. It also comes down to the right people having kids at the right time I guess lol. ER has always had athletes though. They just never played football. Now that they’re having success, I assume more of those athletes are coming out to play.

Coaching is the biggest factor. They’ve always had great athletes but haven’t had great coaching in football for a long long time until Brooks. A lot of the ER kids are multiple generational kids, with their parents and grandparents having gone to ER and being good athletes themselves. It’s been a hot bed of talent waiting for the right person the use it correctly.

Can't speak for ER but Marion went through this in the mid to late 2000s and again in the early/late 2010s. Had some in house fighting with the baseball and basketball coaches doing the best to keep kids away from the football field. Marion County would have had the talent to play Alcoa in consecutive years, maybe even 3 years in a row but the coaching they would have been stuck with wouldn't have allowed it.

If a coach can put an exciting successful product on the field, then they won't have trouble getting the athletes in the school to join the team.  Especially at the 2A level.

Pickets gonna have a helmet in his chest all game. The addition of Washington is gonna be huge. You can’t double team both him and Groves

Have to agree with you here. I caught some of ER vs WH heritage who has one of the leading passers in the state. They were causing havoc every play, he was seeing ghosts and looked like he hadn't played a snap all year by the 2nd quarter. Marion saw that tape and others like it and will try and scheme accordingly. This is going to be a fun matchup.

Lots of talent plain and simple. ER has always had good athletes, benefiting greatly from a few families with great genes but never in a bunch like this and usually had to go through tough private schools in the past. 4 power 4 guys with other D1 and several small ball college guys in just a few years and a ton of solid pieces. If Brooks can’t get a gold ball with this much talent than its a failure in my book. Some people will be impressed with the wins and playoff runs but that will be under achieving and no excuses should matter. Most 2A teams don’t have this kind of talent come through in 30 years much less 3.

    • Well, round 1 goes to NG 51-47.  This was a grueling physical game and probably one of the more exciting matchups in the series.  After trailing by 16 in the 3rd,  the lady landers staged a furious rally and had a chance to cut it to 2.  My girl Savannah had a steal and a and 1 to cut it 4.  I'm very proud of the effort but we need that the whole game.  We let Miller annihilate us tonight.  I think she had 26.  We need to figure something out there.

    • Injuries always suck! Hate that for any player! Prayers for a good healing journey!
    • Great match indeed! Cleveland made it great for the wrestlers on both sides!! Great environment and passion on both sides!! I will say McCallie wrestled about as good a match as could have been expected! It was closer than I expected and dang well could have been 32-26 and that would have 100% been as close as we could have ever been.  Thanks again to the whole Cleveland staff for hosting and giving the wrestlers and fans something they deserve!!!  Fun night indeed!!
