Lots of talent plain and simple. ER has always had good athletes, benefiting greatly from a few families with great genes but never in a bunch like this and usually had to go through tough private schools in the past. 4 power 4 guys with other D1 and several small ball college guys in just a few years and a ton of solid pieces. If Brooks can’t get a gold ball with this much talent than its a failure in my book. Some people will be impressed with the wins and playoff runs but that will be under achieving and no excuses should matter. Most 2A teams don’t have this kind of talent come through in 30 years much less 3.

Only 1 D1 guy on the team this year. MC technically has more D1 guys than us this year.

One thing I’ve noticed that could hurt ER tonight is their lack of ability to kick it deep on kickoffs. The last few weeks they’ve been doing a lot of squib kicking. Not sure if it’s lack of ability to kick it deep or if it’s planned, but Fayetteville seemed to start with pretty favorable field position last week on a lot of their drives because of this. Just something to keep an eye on.

Starting kicker came back from a broken foot a couple weeks ago. He used to kick it deep (although sometimes out of bounds), but not sure if it's in his arsenal right now.

On team you have 2 power 4 guys. Although 1 is hurt. And I think Brooks, QB, and 1-3 others could all play at the next level on scholarship. And you’ve had 2 other groves sign Power 4 in last 3 years (I know one didnt workout) and the RB from 2023 that is at Indiana State. I could go on. Bottomline no one in 2A has had talent come through their program like that since 2022. Many coach's could do what he’s done which is beat up on the Houston County types and then struggle with 1-2 opponents they play a year that have actual talent. An actual good coach beats the teams with equal or slightly less talent.

Brooks 2 postseason losses are against the state champs though. Tyner had D1 kids, just didn’t get exposure

    • We played South Side this summer and it went into OT and we lost on a last second shot. I thought our girls handled their pressure as well as we have in a while and that is the reason I think we will have a really good ball handling team. South Gibson will have their hands full with Dyersburg and South Gibson has never beat South Side. Back to what I was saying South Gibson needs another ball handler especially if they have to play South Side in a do or die game and handle their pressure. As far as who wins our Region, it will be must see basketball for sure and like I said I like our team. I like your team as well. Huntingdon is loaded 5 in and 5 out and you got a great Junior High Team. Huntingdon Fans are going to have a whole lot of fun the next 5 or 6 years. Loretto is really good this year. I got to watch them in Brentwood. They got a Freshman Guard that can go. Going to be a fun year.
    • After seeing Southside this summer I think they will be better than last season.  Seems that the big three Southside, South Gibson and Dyersburg will be the region favorites once again.  In 2A Gibson County is the favorite in that region with a toss up between Westview and Union City.  I think Memphis Business and Gibson Co will represent the west this season.  I think that Westviews run to glass house may end.
    • South Gibson better get ready to battle in the deep end because South Side and Dyersburg will be a challenge. They will have to beat Dyersburg in the District Finals to avoid South Side in the Region. South Gibson better find another guard that can handle pressure and score to take pressure off of Dunn. They need to learn to score to take it to another level. They scored 29 and only lost by 7 last year at state. As far as Westview and Union City, they will be pretty good but Gibson County might have the best ball handling team we have had in a while this year with four guards on the floor with 3 PG's. We have 3 seniors with tons of experience. I really love this team this year. Looks like Westview lost out to the girl from Florida to USJ. Unless something happens they will have 1 player back with meaningful minutes. I know they will be competitive for sure but they will have their hands full.
    • South Gibson drags you to the deep end and makes you like it. Tough group that communicates and really seems to love competing.  Union City will be improved but don't know how they handle nights were Moss doesn't go off.  South Side is fast and athletic but I don't think they're as good as last year.  Westview girls will be better later in the season because they are depending on folks that haven't done it yet.  Westview may lose a district game but they'll be the 1 seed over UC.  South Gibson beats Dyersburg for that district. South Side runs Jackson again.
    • Jasper got insulted like MASE and SP did.    TOP 10 Division I Class 2A Sch. Rank 1. Milan (13-2) 10 2. Bledsoe County (11-2) 14 3. Marion County (13-2) 19 4. Huntingdon (10-3) 5 5. Westmoreland (10-3) 6 6. York Institute (11-3) 9 7. East Robertson (10-2) 30 8. Fairley (11-1) 43 9. Jackson Central-Merry (9-3) 20 10. Summertown (8-3) 26
