  1. I will be interested to see who attends. I know several who were handing their envelopes to others during the awards ceremony. It is a great idea from a fan perspective... not sure about it from an athlete perspective. If the organizers want it to ever become what they hope then they better buckle down for the long haul and not expect it to live up to expectations the first few years.

  2. well, glad you have, but if i was his coach he would have ran after the first one, that is in the book for an infraction and someone should have told him to celebrate like you have been there before! After you win a state title maybe, but this was a quarters match and there was still work to be done! Now if it hadnt been called before thats on the officials that have reffed his matches prior, but it is a stupid thing to do and should have been addressed forever ago but wasnt. So just because it was allowed prior doesnt mean it should be now and between the running of the mouth AND his headgear being throw(again doesnt matter how or why its thrown per the rulebook) he was penalized appropriately. Hate that it ended his high school career but it shouldnt have even came to that.

  3. No one said anything negative about Clay Co. All was said Fayetteville and Eagleville have a chance. They will have to play well especially if it is at Celina. It's tournament time. Anything can happen. All teams have to make it through Region first.

  4. The refs have a terrible habit of calling fouls and then staring the kids down to see if they have an emotional reaction, which sometimes results in a technical also. It is terrible. Call the foul and report it to the scorer's table and move on. Quit staring down the kids.

  5. Actually, WB middle school program has done quite well after the consolidation of Carpenters and Union Grove. They are coached by Rick Young who, BTW was the front runner for the high school job before $had threw his name in at the last minute after “resigning” (cough) at Blackman. Many still feel (me included) that RY should have had the opportunity to show his worth.

  6. Interesting! Sounds like another Hawk hater! I don’t have a dog in the race, but every time I get on here, someone has something negative to say about SS or counts them out for whatever reason. How? Have they not proven they’re the best around here? Lexington split with CC and SS whooped cow turds out of Lexington 2 out of 3 times! The first time, the score really don’t show what the game looks like. I’m a Madison High supporter but I know good basketball when I see it. I don’t think Crockett has a chance, better yet, anyone in this area! SS has the Miller girl that obviously no one in the district respects, but they are loaded with talent! Good luck with that prediction! Lol

  7. What college coaches have committed to attending the event?

  8. East Hickman does need to make sure they get the right guy! Kids walking the halls is everywhere. It starts with "CULTURE" can the right guy come in and change that, as soon as he steps on campus. It takes everyone on the same page from Superintendent on down. Losses will translate to margin of losses, Then win a game your not suppose to. That's how it will change. Kids will come out if the culture is right. Seems like this hire of the football coach can be pivotel. Football is the start of the year. Good Season = Even BETTER SCHOOL YEAR. This is a fact.

  9. Which begs the question, WHY was he on the team??? But I think I can answer my own question. Take a look at the number of team points Cleveland wrestlers AND COACH lost to unsportsman calls. Apparently they must have missed the part about wrestling teaching sportsmanship. Maybe Alan Jones can send them to a sportsmanship seminar.

  10. I believe there is a Healthy Wt allowance. This is an opportunity to support an event and create the Same Atmosphere that other sports enjoy .... Let's save critiques 'til after... Let's BUILD on our Fanbase and energy from TSSAA's .....for the World's Oldest and Greatest Sport!!!

  11. I think question 2 was already covered pretty well... I watched that match from the railing and I think everyone has covered this spot on. This stuff was pretty blatant and I was surprised Jones wasn't ejected on the second instance. The Cleveland staff certainly expressed their displeasure over his behaviors! I can pass along a viewpoint on some of the issues surrounding question three here. I missed anything that was said form the stands during the 170 match as I was down on the floor area near the stairs and fencing. One of the issues that exacerbated things post-match was the contingent of folks associated with Father Ryan that were down in that area. There were a few FR coaches down there not actively coaching matches but working with athletes coming up or spectating (as there were from several schools). However, there was a group of what I believe to have been mostly former FR wrestlers crowding the area that shouldn't have been down there. I say this because no wristband for floor access, etc. That was a miss on how security is set-up for the event in my opinion. This crowd of both staff and non-staff was gathered around the narrow gate opening that Mason had to come through post match and as he pushed through some shoulders were bumped (not sure if anyone instigated, etc. I couldn't see that) because nobody cleared a path for him. This lead to some hand gestures being made (one by a member of the FR group, I saw that one, not sure about others) and that lead to emotions flaring on both ends and folks needing to be restrained, etc. Most of that simply could have been avoided if folks had the common courtesy to clear out of the way of the wrestlers and give them a clear pathway... this was done in most cases but not following this match. Personally, I think better control of the floor area would have removed a good bit of that crowd and this would have been much less of an issue. I don't think any parties are absolved of issues on this one.

  12. by all means please come help.. now please be aware. you will have to call the game on the floor. not in the stands where the best angle is. Again I ask, what about all the calls they get right? and thanks for sending in your money to start officiating. your uniform will cost you 200 and fees 250. Gas is cheaper now so the 2 hour drive wont cost to much. tell your family good bye for 4 months. and please enjoy fans like you USED to be. They are priceless.

  14. Super young, have freshman coming off the bench, 2 seniors that start but don't have experience when it comes to pressure. This group didn't see much court time last year behind a group of 6 seniors. Most of the losses came in games that were in Christmas Tournament play. Losses were close and came at the end.

  15. As a recent former wrestler i can say there is no excuse for what the cleveland kid did. Especially the last match of your senior year thats the worst way to injure your legacy. Same goes for cockman. If someone lashes out cause their losing you have to just move on and get off the mat. I feel bad both of them ended their year that way. Hopefully their teammates can learn from this.

  16. For sure! If I’m Peabody and Gleason I’m just happy I’m gonna be opposite Greenfield in semis of Region! I think the match up favors Peabody also if they can keep Gleason from running thru set after set! Peabody’s pressure will be the difference in that game! If Peabody can disrupt gleasons sets they win, if Gleason comes down and runs thru stuff over and over again then Gleason wins! I think it will be close thru half time but then I expect a run from Peabody as the pressure keeps up! I for sure wouldn’t want to finish 2nd tonight in championship GC vs. TCA, good chance it will be over for you by Saturday for sure! I’m just convinced Greenfield with 2 kids that can get you 20+ every night and another one that is getting 10-15 will be to hard to beat at UTM! Other kids have really come along also!

  17. Just watched the tape and this is disgusting. Please tell me the Cleveland wrestler was ejected from the tournament. If not, the official should be ejected as this was intentional on multiple occasions. Now I know what the uproar was all about. I missed it as I was watching another match. Wow. That is all I can say. I wonder what the Cleveland fans are having to say about this after the way their team performed. Cleveland looked dominant this weekend. Sad to see this from one of their wrestlers.

  18. I don't have anything against the coach there but have wondered out loud about some of the odd things that go on at WB. The program was on a collision course before he entered the picture with the previous two coaching debacles. The condition of the school has had me more alarmed than anything from what inside sources have told me. One even told me the only way out of the mess the county is in would be to do like Knox County and all the schools would have to run under the same leadership to avoid bankruptcy which has nearly happened before. That's just par for the course when you elect a retired fireman to run the counties business instead of an educated businessman.

  19. Trust me I am by no means defending Cockmans actions. When the ref hits you for a team point that means shut up and do what your supposed to do and get off the mat. Which he did not do, but I do agree that both kids should have been tossed and not just one.

  20. Complete horse manure! Nobody’s job is on the line if they don’t win coach of the year. Pick a person, fairly and move on! The “snowflaking” of America played out in girls HS basketball. Let’s not hurt anyone’s feelings!

  22. What does Clay County have? Fayetteville is as tall and athletic as they come and Eagleville can shoot 3s whenever and however they like..

  23. Here would be my proposal for the layout. Put AAA and Girls on the far end away from video screen. Each mat toward the corners of those areas. This would maximize seating for AAA which is the largest contingent of fans. Put A/AA and D2 on the end near video screen towards the corners. Then rent a stage and get some small pyrotechnics for the introductions and some better music and enthusiasm in the announcing. Have awards occurs in the middle. I did like the awards at the end, I think it keeps coaches from turning in OW and MOT ballots early. All it takes is planning.

  26. It will never happen but I really wish TSSAA would restructure the district/regional tourneys so that only 3 district teams instead of 4 advance to the regional tourney with the district tourney champs getting first round regional byes. This would make the district consolation game an elimination game- the idea that a team can lose two games in the district tourney and still advance has never made sense to me. It would also end any temptation to “tank” in the district consolation game in order to avoid a clearly dominant team.
