  2. When I was a coach and we made the state tournament we went up to Murfreesboro for a blind draw. We went into this meeting room. We were all assigned a number on a ping pong ball. They spun it around a few times then started dropping balls out one at a time. Totally blind draw. The only exception was if two district teams made the state they had to be in opposite brackets. Fairest way to do it.

  4. Will they go back to 3 classes, probably not. I certainly like seeing more teams have opportunities with the four class system. However, there is no question that it has watered down the competition in late season games. The average margin of victory in the boys sectional games last night was 36 points. That is an insane number to me. It would be interesting to see the numbers year by year in region championship games and sectionals. Especially comparing big moves in TSSAA like 4 classes or the public/private split. I believe the average margin of victory in the girls sectional games was around 16 points. Crazy as well.

  5. You got beat on your home floor, hosting a region game. This isn’t “everybody get to trophy” Quit your crying and go see mommy for some warm milk in a bottle and lay down and take a nap. You’ll feel better when it quits hurting….

  6. I would argue the opposite. There is nothing unfair about a true blind draw. Big difference in unlucky versus unfair. In my opinion, the bigger problem is the lack of transparency. TSSAA could d a live draw on Sunday before the tournament like they did before COVID. Even if you just stream to coaches and media, it would eliminate even the possibility of unfairness.

  7. Why doesnt the TSSAA actually do some work and come up with ranking system for the top 8? The blind draw is ridiculous. Some of these matchups should be potential state championship games, not first rounders. It's ridiculous. I don't have a dog in the hunt, but man it just seems so unfair. There has to be a better way, this just seems lazy.

  8. I've been privileged to know the identities of a few applicants over the years, and most express concern about their names being made public just for applying. Some don't feel comfortable about their current employer knowing, but by far the most of them are concerned that the kids on their current team find out. We've never hired one that didn't request that we allow them to have a team meeting before we made an announcement (that I'm aware of), and at that point it's a forgone conclusion that everyone knows soon...it's not about keeping a secret, it's about respecting the bond between the new coach and his/her former team. Not a big deal that we don't agree, just a difference of opinion.

  11. Yup, according to the Census Bureau, Florida, California, and Georgia are the top three states where folks are coming from. But if you also factor in those leaving TN for other states, the net gain from Florida is relatively small, and it's actually negative for Georgia. Based on net gain, California and Illinois are where we are gaining the most folks from. The secret is definitely out. According to the annual U-Haul statistics, which is also a pretty good migration indicator, Tennessee has been a top 6 growth state every year since the pandemic (2020 - #1, 2021 - #3, 2022 - #6, 2023 - #5).

  13. This is the type of thinking that has LC in this position again. You are right, maybe they shouldn't have applied. You simply are not going to get top tier applicants if they fear their names being made public. This is simple. The fact that most of you LC guys don't see it is really telling.

  15. Congratulations to Coach Mike Reynolds and the Jellico Blue Devils. They are making their school’s first ever state tournament appearance! They went on the road tonight and knocked off a tough University High team 65-59. Exciting times for their school and community I’m sure!

  18. Soo… how many transfers played for Alcoa this year? lol that’s a wonderful story, but you avoided the overall point. Being one of the biggest 3A schools while at the same time having SEVERAL transfers each year has just as much to do with the success as the summer workouts that apparently Alcoa invented according to you. hawkdad approves.

  19. I agree, our middle school team takes the struggle bus to games. He saw the writing on the wall and I don't blame him for getting a pay raise and hopefully more talent. If our folks would have paid, he probably would have stayed. Jut my opinion.

  21. Yeah there were a lot of people upset with the way the program was being run! Thats why we are thankful the Administration saw the issues as well and made the change we needed. Weight room work is way improved and kids are loving the new coaches and new programs that have been installed.

  22. I never said metro does not have a few good coaches. It is obvious that the schools that have done well have had some of the best talent. Could they win at the schools where talent has not been as good? Broome is leaving because the talent is down and up at Antioch. You mentioned 5 schools that have done well, and 4 of the schools that did well did at a low classification. I do not Alexander , I just hope the next coach at Overton stay and develop a program and not leave because of talent. I have great respect for public school coaches in metro and Tennessee that coach for the kids and just not the wins. I do express my thoughts and do not intend to do anything other than encourage other comments.

  26. This is 100% accurate. The Cubbard is bare there and they would have blamed it all on him at the end of this next season. He knew what was in store talent wise for the next 4 years and got out while he could. Milan is in trouble for sure!

  27. I truly don’t think TSSAA purposely screws teams with the bracket. There is no benefit to TSSAA to putting the best teams on one side of the bracket. They don’t make more money by doing that. I don’t think they’ll ever go back to live draw with coaches in attendance. It was tough on coaches from far east TN and far west TN to drive up for the draw then go home just to drive back a couple days later. However, there is no reason for TSSAA not to livestream the draw to avoid any appearance of dishonesty

  28. You must have had a South Central officiating crew. They are really bad at letting the players decide the outcome of the game.

  32. You are obviously clueless. Go watch their summer workouts and fall practices. They are open to the public. Then you will understand that you don't know what you are talking about. Student athletes want to go there so that they can be developed for a chance to play college ball. Not the other way around. They are NOT just loaded with D1 dudes. Most of them are from Blount county anyway. Alcoa has been dominant for nearly the entire 21st century but the transfers are more of a recent thing. Is it better to be the best player at Carter or AE and win 3-4 games a season or be a good player on a good team and have a chance to call yourself a champion? 5 playoff games a year times 4 is 20 extra games over your high school career to get tape, 20 extra weeks of development. And they make the players they have better, regardless of the innate ability or natural talent those guys have. Plus it is one of the top public school systems in the state. If I’m a player or parent its an easy choice.
