GREENBACK FOOTBALL

This offseason feels like Christmas Eve that lasts about 6 months. The 2015 team can't wait to get on the field and the fans are very anxious to see how it all comes together. In theory the playbook is wide open! This offense can run, throw, and everything in between. Maximizing team speed and really working hard on the little things this off season will prove very fruitful for the Cherokees. Less than 3 weeks and the pads will go back on and it will be OURTOWN OURTEAM OURTIME!

What is this I hear about former Sequoyah standout Chris Carson may be joining the Greenback staff??? Is there any truth to that? If so, I would see that as big win for Greenback to steal a great coach from the Sequoyah "back yard." Sounds like there might be some uprising at the A&W if this is true.

Heard that Josh Silvey is at Greenback now. If that is true then Greenback will be loaded.

When Josh announced he was leaving Catholic, his dad said he wasn't thrilled with the idea of him playing for Loudon and I guess he decided Greenback was the place to be.  Josh is a really great kid and a very talented football player, he will make his teammates on the D-line better because he draws a double team and will never complain.  Played through inuries too.  Good luck to Josh and the Cherokees this year.

Greenback's spring football has been delayed a little this year due to the success of the baseball team. For the first time since 2004, Greenback baseball will advance to Region tourney starting Monday. This after not even fielding a team in the 2014 season. We have around 10 players that play both sports and those are our 8th graders thru Juniors. The football staff is very supportive of our baseball team and hopes they can go af far as they can. In my opinion that is a selfless act cause we all know how eager football coaches are to get into spring practice. There just isn't enough time in the school year to get these seasons not to overlap. With double elimination format baseball can drag out longer than basketball and football in the post season. For a 1A school it is hard to start football missing 3 of your QBs, multiple RBs, and handful of receivers who are also your LBs, corners and safetys on D. Oh well, it's a good problem to have! Just means we've got a slew of great multi-talented athletes in our little town! As much as our boys want to get the football pads on, the ones that play baseball want this ride to continue especially for the 2 Seniors. We are kind of like the Hoosiers of baseball right now.

Please keep one of our football/baseball players in your prayers as well as his family. He and his siblings lost their custodial grandmother, Aunt, and 3 cousins age13 and under in a tragic auto accident on Thursday night. Their Uncle and 2 additional young cousins were hospitalized. It is a very sad situation and your prayers will be much appreciated!
