Oakland @ Maryville

Oakland played Hoover to a 24-6 game back early in the season. I remember the CoachT posters asking back then "why is Maryville scared to play Hoover and/or Clay-Chalkville?". Is Maryville as good as Hoover? I've told people that they are better but many people doubt that opinion and say that Maryville's success is because they don't play in the "SEC of Tennessee High School Football" week in and week out. That's always been the big myth about MHS from folks here in the midstate area.

Oakland vs Maryville is going to be a case of one team ( Oakland) maybe having a couple of superior athletes but Maryville having the much better TEAM. As Blackman's coach said, Maryville has no weaknesses. Nearly impossible to beat a team that has no weaknesses and that is as well coached as Maryville.

Going to be a challenge for sure. Oakland will have to play flawless, but Creasy will have his team prepared.

Here in the east we like to say they recruit and play 9th graders. Everyone needs a crutch I guess.

It really is a shame that Hoover and Maryville have never played,  they have both been dominant for so long.  This year's Hoover team was as bad as they have been since 1999. (they lost last night in the semi's)

Hoover has played in the state championship 13 out of the last fifteen years,  winning the championship ten times.

The only reason Hoover gets more recognition than Maryville is because they play 2-3 games a year against out of state teams and those games tend to get televised nationally.

Anyone who thinks Maryville is not as good as Hoover,  just does not know football. Maryville could play with anyone in the southeast.

    • So much talk about an investigation about student record manipulation and then everything has went silent. Has anyone heard how the investigation is going?
    • Basically what you're saying is schools can basically bully students around and get away with it because they are protected. I agree to a certain extent but when schools decisions to keep knuckleheads on staff starts costing kids careers and a college education there is a problem. Our school system last week had a teacher supposedly push a kid and the parents went to the law and the teacher is suspended. So I wouldn't say that they can just do what they want without liability. This case don't pass the smell test because the coach had already been fired before and she got fired after a year on the job. Sounds like the student was right in this case on the outside looking in because the coach gets fired after one year. How many coaches get fired after one year?? Not many.
    • Problem with DB football goes beyond coaching. Like Waco said. Thr band is the main focus of their community and school. They have the resources to be a championship level team. Guarantee Ballard or Witten could have them nationally relevant at some point but everyone down to peewee would have to buy in and at DB we all know that would never happen.
    • I know the RB from OR he’s fast and has good hands. Is good on special teams also. Didn’t want to play defense over to the Ridge.
