I never saw this until just now and I'm in the midstate area. I disagree with Tate Matthews saying that Ravenwood had a tougher postseason road to Cookeville last year than did Maryville. The regular season is one thing but in the playoffs Maryville playing Cookeville, Blackman, and Oakland in consecutive weeks was a tougher road than Ravenwood playing Overton, White Station, and Whitehaven.

In the title game Ravenwood did out-play Maryville. Ravenwood out-executed and them on the field and their coaching was better on that particular night. That wasn't so much of an insult than a statement of fact. You can't turn the ball over that many times and win a state title.

As a fan I would love to see Ravenwood and Maryville meet again this year but I personally don't believe it will happen. I'm sure in a few years down the road Maryville will get another shot at Will Hester with him coaching at Nolensville. Until that time the Rebels fans will have to settle with a 1-1 split over the last two years with Will Hester coached teams.

It doesn't take away from Maryville's excellence at all! Sometimes you have to tip your cap and acknowledge that the other team is better.

Despite all the "out physical", "outplayed" "out coached" comments Maryville was one simple pass mistake inside Ravenwood's 5 yard line from going ahead late in the 4th.

Had Brock been healthy it would have been a different game. Seen the same thing happen against Hillsboro when we lost a key receiver on the opening kickoff and tried to return to the game in the second half at only half speed. I could go on and explain how close Maryville could have had seven more gold balls in the trophy case but s### happens.

    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
    • I would not put too much stock into the UH over Eagleville. From what I understand they were pretty banged up in that tourney. Catcher was out, they were throwing pretty deep in their bullpen and a few key players were beat up in their infield. Sounds like they are pretty healthy heading into the district tournament. Look at their schedule, they played some really good teams.
