Fayetteville to forfeit 6 wins

There are lots of rumors and opinions out there...Everyone is entitled to their opinions. There are a ton of different school systems that require different bylaws to apply as fairly as possible. I could care less either way if Fayetteville specifically gets in or is booted out. From this point it looks like both sides were wrong to a certain degree. I hate it for the players, but unfortunately in high school sports in the day and age players are subject to adults making bad decisions or not following the rules. I don't know who is wrong here, but rules are set up to keep order...everyone must follow those rules. Teams/schools get in trouble yearly for breaking rules and Fayetteville is no exception. Doesn't matter the situation or record. They could be #1 team in the U.S., but if they broke a rule or didn't follow TSSAA bylaws they are subject to consequences. It happens! Get over it and move on and let the teams that followed the rules or knew the rules get their shot!

Problem is the TSSAA is trying to use one short concise rule to handle transfers in every situation. The bus route rule may be appropriate in a Nashville or Memphis school setting but not in these rural county situations where multiple kids drive 30-40 miles to school every day.

I think I read where some say there are high schools that don't even have buses so just do away with the bus rule all together.

Any that have no buses have no 'territory' under this interpretation and thus all transfer are automatically ineligible, I suppose.

Of course that's absurd, because the rule isn't applied that way to those schools.

Buses are not considered for Tullahoma transfer eligibility.  Pretty obvious that you can't use that rule and sensibly arrive at the conclusion that Tullahoma has no territory whatsoever.  But that is exactly what you have to do if you support the TSSAA's logic here.

20. Q. What is meant by the term “system-wide” public school in the definition of “territory” as defined in the Definitions? A. A system-wide public school is a school without geographic zones or bus routes that draws students throughout the school system. Examples of system-wide public schools are, but not limited to: Chattanooga School for the Arts & Sciences, Martin Luther King, the magnet portion of Liberty Technology High School, etc.

so that provision is referring to "magnet schools"

by this definition, fayetteville is not a system-wide school.  it is a city school whose geographic zone is the city limits of fayetteville based on its bus routes.

Still left with the following problem.

Does this all mean that any/all transfer to Tullahoma, or any school without buses are automatically ineligible?  No territory whatsoever due to buses?

Does it also mean that Fayetteville proper is outside the territory of LCHS?  For 30 years, there was no other school whatsoever to attend.  Are you saying that it's sensible that all transfers who moved to Fayetteville from 1979 until FHS opened should have been ineligible at the only school within 30 miles due to the bus routes?  No buses pick up for LCHS inside Fayetteville.

The two examples above have never, ever been treated the way this case has been.  Why?

Just throwing this out there. When the TSSAA talks about system wide schools, I wonder if that means a school like Hardin County Hogh School. That is the only high school in that area. It serves all of Hardin County, it serves everybody system wide.

Now take Fayetteville and Lincoln County High Schools. Both claim to be system wide but they both claim the same area. So, that may be where the bus route rule comes into play. To the TSSAA, you got two schools claiming the same area but to the TSSAA, the bus routes determines what school is the legal school for the transfer.

Otherwise, a school system could say they are open to 5 counties and as long as you move into one of those counties, you could go to their school and are considered a legal transfer.

    • Deja vu all over again, 7 yrs apart. SMDH Does anybody talk to each other?
    • OK, well, that’s because two quarterbacks can’t start. That’s football 101. The main quarterback won the starting job, so he was on varsity, and the Seymour transfer did not win the starting job. He played some varsity. He was mainly junior varsity, and he balled out when healthy, so for the starting quarterback who’s been starting varsity since his freshman year, if you have any form of proof that he’s gotten worse, somehow, whether that means stats or whatnot, please feel free to share.
    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
