We did play them in 2008 and 2014 but yes, the game in '85 is the one that stands out with them.

I remember that long bus ride up there but we enjoyed the ride back after a 35-0 win. Never forgot hugging my dad on the field after the game knowing we were heading to the Championship Game.

Mercy rule. I believe Gordy (assuming they beat Whitwell) will give y’all a good look for a half next week.

That Whitvuhl bunch may think they are world beaters again,  I saw signs out of them he past 2 or 3 games they played.  Unfortunately for Monterey they were able to put enough of it together.

Gordy is good enough to give the Pirates trouble for maybe a quarter but it won’t last. Their offensive line is pretty dang good. I wouldn’t put it past Whitwell though to pull another upset.

Clay County should kept the name Celina.  Just saying.  Seems like the last time we played them was a semifinal game and they were supposed to pound us into that mud hole of a stadium up there.  Hoever, that big old back (250 pounds) averaging 250 yards a game got about 10 yards that night.  The Sisco kid was running about 6 inches above the mud hole.

I remember the sisco kid

Clay county has a few athletes from what I’ve seen.  I just don’t think they play at the same speed as we do though.

For sure, the QB can sling it and run decent but they don’t have elite speed which is why there will be another running clock Friday night, pirates win 49-12

Old Pirate says all this running clock yapping is causing the fans to stay home.  SP stands were half empty & JB were nearly empty. OP went visiting the rail bird community & it showed a shortage.  The Pirates need to remain focused, stay healthy & git the injured back. OP did like some new wrinkles, but the passing game has got better but still far from impressive. The defensive front continues to dominate while displaying closing speed.

    • RR, you might remember. Didn’t someone hide the kicking shoe that game? It seems I remember we had missed a kick the week before, and we needed all the points we could get. We thought we had a better chance going for two, so $?&@$ hid the shoe after the first miss that game. No one on our sideline looked for it very hard.
    • I will never forget the 1983 Heritage vs Maryville game. I remember driving home and listening to WGAP. Can't remember the announcers name. He asked Coach Story why he kept going for 2? Story told him " Why didn't you ask Renfro that last year"
    • TSSAA will let them all go to Mase.
    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
