I will never in my entire life forget that season.  10-0 in the regular season, with a win over the pups. It honestly seemed like it was destiny. I remember the little home stands that we had at the time would be packed to the rafters every single game.  The crowds were huge, and very rowdy. We had a group of boys that could play ball. They were led by the Walden brothers.

The first round of the playoffs seemed like it was going to be a breeze...... NOT! East Hickman came to play ball, and beat us. It was probably the upset of the year. We had 3 turnovers in the game and EH scored on every single one of them.... You can NOT turn the ball over and expect to win games...

None the less, that year IMO kinda set the tone for what our program would become. We do not have the athletes year in and year out that get D1 offers. We do not have the newest or shiny facilities, what we do have is a culture of kids that come through our program and are expected to out work everyone. We have great coaches that give our boys a chance to win. Great community support from top to bottom. We also, have a great feeder program. Coach Moore has been absolutely dominating at the middle school for the last 20+ years.

BPM can act like a clown if he wants, but he knows that SGC is rising and only getting better. He is also, ugly.

O yea, and to add to the list of things we have going for us we do not have to wear the horrific color purple.

A 10-1 season in just the second year of varsity competition.  The Hornets have done extremely well for such a young program.  SGC began play on the varsity level in 2011.  Over that period of time South Gibson has a record of 68 wins and 43 losses for a winning percentage of 61%. The Hornets have had 8 winning seasons and 2 losing seasons.

Looking at other teams in 7-4A:

Crockett Co. - first season - 1983;   overall record/winning percentage - 226-197, 53%;    22 winning seasons;   16 losing seasons.
North Side - first season - 1947;   overall record/winning percentage - 416-322-7, 56%;   47 winning seasons;   25 losing seasons.
Obion Co. - first season - 1961;  overall record/winning percentage - 213-385-8, 36%;   19 winning seasons;   41 losing seasons
Milan - first season - 1922;   overall record/winning percentage - 684-398-23, 63%;   69 winning seasons;   30 losing seasons
Haywood - first season - 1912;   overall record/winning percentage -  681-397-32, 63%;   74 winning seasons;   31 losing seasons

Wow! Great post, and great info. I had no idea that SGC was comparable to Milan, and Haywood in win percentage. This is awesome.

Some of it is knowledge gained from being around West Tennessee football in one capacity or another for a long time.  Most of the statistical and real old info comes from  http://www.ahsfhs.org/tennessee/

This site has a lot of good info too.   https://www.masseyratings.com

None of this info will really have any bearing on 2021, but it does relate to Region 7-4A.  I'm just hoping to keep this thread alive.

Here's how each 7-4A team has fared against their upcoming region foes since 2000.  Of course, not all of the teams have been in the same classification or region over the last two decades, so some of the teams do not share a lot of history with each other.

Of all the teams in the region, Haywood and Milan (two former Big Ten Conference rivals) probably share the longest history with each other.  Although the Cats and Dawgs have only met 4 times since 1963, the series dates back to 1922.  Haywood leads the overall series 25-16-1.

Haywood  Wins/Losses vs

Crockett Co. 10-8
Milan  0-2
North Side  7-5
Obion Co.  12-1 (HHS coach Chris Smith was the OC at Obion the year the Rebels defeated the Cats.)
South Gibson  1-3
Total Wins/Loses  30-19   Winning percentage   61.22%

Crockett Co.   Wins/Losses vs.

Haywood  8-10
Milan  3-7
North Side  1-2
Obion Co.  14-2
South Gibson  5-3
Total Wins/Loses   31-24   Winning Percentage   56.31%

Milan  Wins/Loses vs.

Crockett Co.  7-3
Haywood  2-0
North Side  1-1
Obion Co.  2-0
South Gibson 10-3
Total Wins/Loses   22-7   Winning Percentage   75.86%

I'm sure you do...lol.  You'll really like these stats.

Sonny Moore's end of season power ratings ranked 330 teams across the state, here's how the teams that will be in 7-4A in 2021 ranked.

Milan (11-2)   Rank 16;   PR - 141.9;   SOS - 124.06
Haywood (10-4)   Rank 47;   PR - 132.07;   SOS - 122.65
South Gibson (8-3)  Rank 87;   PR - 122.00;   SOS - 115.63
North Side (6-3)   Rank 130;   PR - 110.98;   SOS - 102.89
Crockett Co. (5-7)  Rank 190;   PR - 100.01;  SOS - 108.46
Obion Co. (1-9)  Rank 207;  PR - 97.15;   SOS - 115.65

https://sonnymoorepowerratings.com/h-s-foot.htm

As you can see,  Milan leads in every category.  And by power rating standards. Milan would have been about a 10 to 45 point favorite against the other teams that will make up 7-4A in 2021.  Of course, the game isn't played on paper and the ratings are based on last year's teams, but this could be a matter of concern for any team not named Milan.

The 2020 Massey ratings rated 350 teams.  Region 7-4A teams were ranked as follows:

#37 - Milan
#61 - Haywood
#80 - South Gibson
#125 - North Side
#143 - Crockett Co.
#242 - Obion Central

https://www.masseyratings.com/hsf/tn/ratings

Once again, Milan leads the pack!

The Massey Ratings also list what they consider to be the largest upsets in Tennessee during the 2020 season.  South Gibson's victory over Haywood is included in that list.  That surprised me since South Gibson was the favorite among most sportswriters prior to the game, but as any Haywood fan knows.,,the Tomcats are always the underdog when it comes to sportswriters.

I don't think I like these stats as well as you do BPM.  By listing all this stuff that favors Milan, one might think I'm a Bulldog fan, but I'm not!

Go Tomcats!

Come on.... you can say it.... Go Dawgs. Just one time. Lol!!!!

I look at Sonny Moore on a regular basis. Very familiar with them. And have seen Massey but don’t keep up with it as much. All good stuff.

I tried to say it, but I just couldn't get it out.  However, I can say, "Go Purple!"
