We are kinda getting off topic, but my wife asked me if there wasn't more conference championships than were listed on our little sign.  I dont understand all the co champioships either.  I cant find any stats on it either.  If everyone in the conference playes each other, there cant be co-champions........right?  Hopefully in two weeks a new sign will be in the works.

Yes there can.

For example in the 2003 season Elizabethton beat Tennessee High, Sullivan East beat Elizabethton and Tennessee High beat East.

Nisstek, you don't know raider....watch the movie "Casino" and pay close attention to Joe Pesce's character. That's Raider. Just fight back and enjoy it.

Ok guys, I gotta stop you right here...what is the imaginary "conference" you speak of? There are no "conferences" in high school. Do you mean your region? Or is this a boundary that only Upper E TN teams refer to and TSSAA doesn't sanction...kinda like the blount co championship. You're giving me an aneurism with the conference thing...

If it's the latter (like BC Championship), it don't mean much....do it? We could care less when we win the Blount Co championship. The competition is weak, like your all's is in your region. Not berating you, just curious and really confused :)

What you are seeing as intimidation, will actually motivate our players.

By the way we have a sign too. (I reads 1972 NATIONAL CHAMPIONS)

I am sure the 72 state championship team was great. The fact they were the "national champs" in 1972 is irrelevant. A high school player won't be intimidated when he sees a 1972 state and/or national champs sign at the high school stadium he is at. Unless the sign has a state title listed in the past five to ten years he won’t even notice. However, he will think about one that reads 1970, 1976, 1978, 1998, 2000, 2001, & 2002 state champs--obviously the recent ones will scare him. Not to mention this player knows that Maryville was one play away from playing for a 4th consecutive title in 2003. This player also knows that Maryville beat Mo. West at Mo. West 38-0 and his team barely beat Mo. West at home 17-6. These are kids playing the game. If you think they don't post messages on this sight and read all the state headlines, you are wrong. I am sure the THS kids are a great group of kids. I just think that during the first quarter they will be a little bit in awe and/or shell shocked. That could be the difference in the game. I may be wrong and if I am, I will be the first to admit it here on this thread. Good luck to both teams.

I wanna tell y'all how big this game is: I'm coming all the way over from Northwest Tennessee to see it. My brother and I looked at the brackets when they came out and saw an opportunity to see Maryville vs. Tennessee in the semifinals. So, we've been planning this for four weeks. When we realized the semis and the UT-UK game were on the same weekend, we decided to go if things panned out. In essence, the college game on Sat. is SECONDARY to seeing Maryville-Tennessee on Friday night.

That's how big this game is.

Now, for the two biggest questions coming into the game:

1. How do we get to Maryville's stadium from Chattanooga?

2. What kind of uniforms will we be looking at?!?!? :)

Looking forward to the trip!!

good decision NWtennsports. what is your prediction for the game? the uniforms you will be seeing for the Maryville Rebels will be black on black. black shirts black pants. with these uniforms our players all called black bullets, you see them flying all over the field. mapquest.com will give you some good directions. just type in 825 lawrence avenue in maryville tennessee.

Tennessee High is the worst football team in the state. They only beat Morristown West 17-6, they obviously are garbage. The best team in the nation, Maryville, dominated Mo West 38-0 and showed everyone in Teneessee that we are unstoppable. All this talk about the Vikings beating Maryville makes me sick. We will destroy their worthless team, so dont even bother driving down to our great city. Spare me Tennessee High, you are a joke.

About how many people are in attendance for a Maryville game? There were 6,500 at the East vs. TN game and that East crowd was wild the whole time and it didnt hurt the Vikings.

The toilet paper throwing, cow bell ringing, silly string spraying, confetti throwing visitors got a little annoying after a while.

Ok dude, take a look at the stats. Over 300 rushing yards and three touchdowns called back due to penalties.

If there were no penalties the score would have been 38-6

    • A complete cultural change happened at Greeneville and the administration and community opened up their checkbooks.  What a lot of people don't know is Ballard was Zeller's OC for many years and stopped coaching for two years because Zeller and Ballard didn't see eye to eye on some things.  Zeller lead Greeneville to it's first ever Semi Final appearance in 2000 and lost 28-12 at Maryville and had them in the Quarter Finals in 2002 and 2003.  Z was a great coach but lost some control when it came to making workouts mandatory. (He learned from that Mistake and it was at LC when i coached with him.).  Z was let go going into my Senior Year and was replaced by Steve McCurry who was the one that turned the program around.  Steve had won a 4a state championship at AC Reynolds in Asheville and made the administration completely redo the weight room with new equipment, had a football period at the end of the school day to lift, started devil camp, and brought in coaches like Danny Bentley (Still the OL coach), Ballard as the OC, Cody Baugh (QB coach and still there), and even Spradlen who is Greeneville's head coach now as the DB's Coach.  McCurry only coached for two seasons at Greeneville and took a team that had a losing record the year before and finished my Senior Year making it to the Quarters and having a 10-3 record and then followed it up with a Semi Final appearance the next year with an 11-3 record and back to back conference championships.  Loved McCurry to death but the recession hit and the story i heard was he was still buying new equipment for the team that the Principal didn't authorize and his response was "I don't answer to you and only to Niswonger and Bewley" (Two huge donors).  That was it for him and they Promoted Ballard shortly after that.   Greeneville had always been relevant ever since the the late 70's under Coach Fred Sorrell's.  Since Sorrell's took over in 1977 Greeneville overall winning percentage is over 76%.  The biggest reason people might not have thought Greeneville was "Good" until Ballard was Greeneville always played up Classification wise and could never get over the hump. (When there were 3 classifications we played 3a, when it went to 5 we played 4a).  Greeneville is the largest its ever been with 953 students and where playing teams 2 or 3 times there size back in the day (I had a little over 800 kids in the school when i graduated in 2008).  Other teams always would know they would be sore after a game but depth took over and never won a Championship until Greeneville played in the classification the TSSAA actually assigned them. You had names like Dustin Moore (1993 Mr Football for 3a and who Phillip Fulmer said was one of the greatest athletes he ever recruited), James "Mud Turtle" Mayes, Brigham Lyons, Byron Gillespie, Frankie Debusk (National Champion Qb at Furman with GQ), Jasmine Lowery, Cody Baugh, The Greenway Brothers, Joe Watson (Furman), etc.  Now the cultural is from the Pee Wee league up and you grow up as a young kid wanting to wear the Greene and White.  Here is a really good link when it comes to anything Greeneville Football related. https://greenevillefootball.com/   I also don't coach anymore.  Z told me i was to smart with how the school systems are ran these days and ended up going into real estate in Knoxville which has been a great decision for my life.
    • Yes, they will. I'm wondering what kinds of strides Sale Creek will make heading into the second season under Coach Fitz.
    • No yellow stripes on the rug last night. Biggest crowd I’ve seen at 825 since the alco debacle.
    • I know most Pirate starters were seniors last year. Im not sure how accurate it is but someone said we only have 3 seniors. That Prep team will probably make some noise this coming season too.
