  6. This thread is wild! Yall are asking for a coach to come in and trend the same direction as Tygard? NEWS FLASH HE DIDNT DO ANYTHING IN HIS TENURE! Its the same results, 5-5 season 10-3 season , post about BLAZE FAST OFFENSE , WHO IS TIMING IT ?? and its not hard coaching the talent he had fellas. Do you care about the dog and pony show or changing the culture! Their kids post and care about highlights because their leader was always on social media talking bout some kind of crap. It starts from the top.The program hasnt been the same since Shad left . That team had some fight and attitude and thats what they need to get back to. Pick the right coach not the politician. None of those names mentioned wow me at all but RUCO is going to have to step it up . Woods is the most successful of the final 3 but you cant tell me there wasnt better option for this job.

  7. I think I will agree with most of the picks here, but I also pick Mason Jakob to beat Chase Walker, these are the times i wished they didnt have a split because it would be real fun to watch Jakob vs Jojo vs Bond after what Bond ended up doing to the kid from Boyd who had beaten him prior. That 113 class would be a lot of fun! Heck just throw Jakob, Jojo, Bond, Hardeman, Chase altogether and lets have some fun! also at 170 I have Gibbs over Szymborski

  8. one thing could be TSSAA actually covering the costs for all participants and maybe provide a stipend for the gas to get there. Gas is crazy expensive and if as you said they don't make one camp in west, one in middle and one in east, maybe a little fuel money would be a help. I mean again having done all this before, the pay is ok until you start taking into account the driving to and from the wear and tear on the car and the taxes you have to pay in the backhalf which means you usually have to hire an accountant and pay them to file the taxes unless a family member is one and does it for you :). Can't really do anything about the circumstances of someone making it or not, unless I literally know someone just didn't want too I cannot fault them for not making it, we all have real jobs and most of us have kids doing other things, that's the one thing I liked about being an official and that was setting my own schedule so I could still be there for my own kids while also being there for those wrestling. Also, we have pro referee's that everyone and their mother STILL complain about being wrong, they get crazy amounts of training and they are paid BIG bucks to do the job as their career. Maybe everyone needs to start understanding that maybe the parents or coaches are sometimes wrong and that officials are human and can make mistakes that sometimes are made in a quick second and cannot be changed, they just have to learn from it and get better, but perfection will never happen!

  9. We all know Baylor can’t develop talent and no one improves there. They get cussed at from the corner because that all the coaching available. Their recruiting is that you will get a better drill partner than where you live which is a perk disappearing class after class and you get paid travel which all boarding schools offer so why choose Chattanooga over MD or PA?

  10. IMO, if you're looking at overall individual state placers when deciding about best dual teams, teams before the public/private split would supersede teams after that split. Even further down the line would be teams with more individual place winners that came after the small/large public split. That being said, I dont know when the cutoff would be, but no way you can compare teams from the 60's to teams from the late 90's, much less today. I know there were teams that were dominate in their own era who had a few guys throughout the lineup who would compete and possibly dominate in any era. However I think with advances in diet, exercise, conditioning, strength, etc; most of the "role players" would get worked by more recent team's "role players". I say that to say I don't think any of the elite older teams would compete top to bottom with more recent teams and the Bradley teams of early 2000's and recent Cleveland teams (all after splits) should get a slight downgrade. Those teams were all DOMINANT against who they had to wrestle and its not a knock on any of those EXCEPTIONAL squads, just my opinion.

  11. Prayers for this young lady. Such an awful thing to happen. https://www.wkrn.com/news/local-news/middle-tn-teen-has-both-legs-amputated-after-being-hit-by-car-at-volleyball-tournament/

  12. Good stuff Cobra, Thank you for doing the research. I obviously didn't have time to research it, just going off the old "memory bank". I even said my years may be a little off. However, I do REMEMBER that during those few years, the Overton teams that I saw were the best public HS teams I remember seeing in TN, even to this day. Again, thank you for doing the research and you may very well be correct that the 97 team was better than the 96 team. All I know is they were FREAKIN STACKED for a public school!!!

  13. There are some embarrassing posts in this thread due to major sour grapes from schools not even involved in the game Saturday. Imagine being a grown adult going to a message board to talk trash about parents cheering for their kids - Lebanon or Green Hill. Lebanon has a terrific basketball coach and program. End of story. They will continue to be really good as long as Cory Barrett is the coach. Green Hill played a great game, likely the best of the season on Saturday, and won the game. They played through adversity of a starter breaking her arm in the 2nd quarter. I would suggest BigENS and WarEagl3 to take a lap.

  15. Dawg is spot on! People also need to understand that this is not just a coach that you are hiring but also a teacher. Yes, at Blackman, you have to teach. Some of the coaches interviewing probably don't want to teach, or fund raise. On top of that, they want to make more than they are currently making. Kriesky will bring stability and toughness that Blackman has been lacking the last two years. Will he throw it 80% of the time, like Tygard does? I sure hope not. Hope that he brings a power run game, with play action pass and solid Defense.

  16. GC and Huntingdon have been battles all year. 4, 8 and 8 and when they are that close anything can happen. You seen what GC did at Westview Sat. Night. Y’all miss a few we hit a few and end result we get a big win. Huntingdon is well coached and a great team. All three teams can win it all, IMO. You know how it is. Got to get through the battles and hold your composure and deal with adversity.

  17. Best player from Marion Co that most will know is Eric Westmoreland. All State and Mr Football. 3 state championships in 2A (1) and in 3A (2). 2 SEC Championships at TN and All American 2nd team. Won 1998 National Championship with the Vols and drafted in 3rd round. Most won't remember Eddie Brown played for Marion before going on to Tennessee and becoming an All American. Drafted into the NFL and was a 2 time Pro Bowler. Led the NFL in punt ret yds in 76 and in kick returns 77. 8 career interceptions with 1 in the Super Bowl. Kids these days don't know the history of some of the players.

  18. Congrats to the District Tournament Champs! What a performance being 3 starters down. One of the best wins of Coach Taylor's career. According to David Clary, this was our 30th District Title in the modern basketball era. On to Region!

  19. Without linemen, skill players don't really matter. Diversity might help athletics, but not necessarily football Maybe another coach could have done better, but when he's had the pieces to compete, he has. He wouldn't be my first choice, but Blackman could do much worse Given the circumstances that caused Tygard to leave, Blackman was never gonna be able to get a big name to come here. Both coaches have connections to RuCo, can't build a program if you don't have stability

  20. The only thing we've got so far from California coming to Maryville is a wide varity of their Fruits and Nuts which have to be counted in the enrollment unfortunately. They've set in on the City of Maryville like a Swarm of Locus busting the walls of the school down it;s so full but none play football to my knowledge. Last year you could drive around Maryville and there were so many California plates it was becoming hard to tell if this was home anymore.

  22. Brought up the same points I was going to make. Maryville is the 3rd best public program in the state, it just so happens that one of the top 2 is on their side of the bracket. Their still king of the hill in East TN 6A and very few times has it been close in the postseason. Don't think the list of coaches is long that could have done what Hunt has Talent level has hurt Maryville a little, but truth of the matter is there are just more families moving to Middle TN than East TN. If it wasn't Oakland, it would probably be someone else Maryville's staff has been pretty intact for most of the Hunt's tenure but where the gap is biggest (up front and defense) is where Maryville had 2 great coaches leave. Gaylor had less talent to work with than Oakland, but he always had a nasty bunch on defense. I apologize to Maryville folks im drawing a blank on the OL coach but it's been a significant dropoff for them upfront Maryville has created a standard of success where anything short of a title feels like a disappointment, but it shouldnt be. 23 straight appearances in the semis, that's something that Oakland or Alcoa isnt even close to and don't think it's ever going to be duplicated once the streak ends

  23. From what I'm hearing that the leaders from New Salem and Union Hill would be rolling in their graves at the lack of development on the offensive side of the ball and that was said by someone at this mornings Coach T breakfast get together at the Hardee's coming into Severville on the 3rd Saturday every month starting at 8 a.m. and sometimes runs right into lunch time if the topics are hot.

  25. We've picked up a few Cali kids on the wrestling team, both come from good backgrounds so no complaints there. One in particular is one of the top 12u golfers on the planet and wrestles in the off season to stay in shape. I'm not sure who our best golfer ever is but he'll be pushing for that title by the time he's in HS.
