  1. Oh, I thought that we ARE supporting the boys by wanting something better for them than a head coach with no experience and a part-time AD. People who are not confident in coaching staffs are known to take their kids to other schools and we are not deep enough for that to happen.

  2. You can disagree all you want, but numbers don’t lie. 6 Seasons prior to Ryan - .671 Overall win %, .625 District win %, .444 Playoff win % 6 Seasons under Ryan - .829 Overall win %, .971 District win %, .791 Playoff win % His teams lost 1 district game in 6 years, and that during Covid affected season where you were lucky to have enough players available to take the field. If you want to credit it all to superior athletes, maybe it’s worth considering that he helped to develop that talent into Mr. Football and D1 (actually 6) players, as well as attracted talent from outlying areas that wanted to benefit from his coaching. Did the talent just show up, or was it developed? Let’s also not forget Ryan’s contribution to our state championship baseball team. If you truly think that the kids are the priority here, talk to any of the ones who played for Ryan (including the ones still at Greenback) and see who they would rather have as coach. No contest.

  3. No teaching certificate !!!!!!!! Wasn't a problem before was it ?????? A lot of single A teams with enrollment of 200 kids are a coin flip away from having a football team or not. Most would be lucky if the janitor was the coach but not Greenback or that's what their leaders think. Most counties would have shut down a school with only 200 kids and sent part to Loudon and the other half to Lenior City. Now with the football in peril we have to have a bonified educated idiot with his papers to prove it. Where the ale did that get ya the last time. Greenback is a small community and don't need to go fishing for a coach from the outside or they'll keep meeting the same fate over and over. I expected we would all be gathered around this chat table on the last hire in two years not two weeks. Now will someone please remove their proud head from their rectum and go get the man who built this program back.

  4. Robert Farmer has sadly passed away . He succeeded Jimbo Pearson as head coach at Springfield after he unexpectedly died of a heart attack in the spring of 1976. Coach took over in the fall of 1976 leading the Jackets to the Volunteer Bowl . His 1977 team won the District 10 AAA championship and the Jackets to their first playoff appearance ,he left his coaching position after the 1978 season to go into administration. Prior to school integration in 1970 he was head coach at Bransford High School in Springfield coaching both Football and Basketball at the historic African-American school. His 1967 team won the Blanket Bowl defeating Chapel Hill and finishing 10-1 , the Lions defeated highly ranked Franklin County 6-0 in the 1967 season , he also led the Bransford basketball team to a District Championship and Region Runner-up and State Tournament quarterfinal finish in 1968. After leaving coaching at Springfield High he went into administration becoming the principal at Bransford Elementary in 1979. Coach Farmer will be missed and prayers to his family and friends.RIP Coach.

  6. Jess, You and I talked yesterday on FB so listen i love ya and i do know most of these guys will still support Greenback Football, if they choose to go else where ok fine, and sure the boys dont need see some of it but alot it they do. B/c this is not about showing support or not, its about the admin and elected officals and whoever else is involved, simply does not care what you, your boys or us key board warriors on coacht and FB have to say... In reality voicing your opinion counts just about as much as me voicing mine... Thats how much this admin respects you as a parent! I'm no parent, yet... but to me that should infuriating... stop "voicing your opinions" and start "demanding to be listened too and given an explanations of why this decisions were made" these are public officals for crying out loud! (And no i'm talking about the "its what was best for the kids" line either) b/c right now they dont care one bit what we think (we being players, parents and esp us fans.lol) b/c IF this hire is true its nothing but big double barrel middle finger to all of us GREENBACK FOOTBALL FANS and telling us we need to shut and sit down, we know whats best! Like i said Jess, I see what your saying about these posts and boys i'm sry but some stuff you just need to over look (thats emotions mostly imo) this is not about if we support em or not, we do! This about the admin and how they have allowed this fiasco and where this next coaching hire can take these boys... So i'm not going to be quite about criticism toward them and this "committee" not b/c i want the attention (thats the last thing i want) i'm not gonna be quite b/c they simply dont respect any of us, especially you and your parents! How do i know this? Well you'll see who you get as coach tomorrow afternoon at the team meeting (Gosh i hope that were all wrong) vs who it could of been (And NO i'm not talking just about Greg Ryan, there were plenty of other very well qualified coaches that didnt even make the interview list) that i know for a fact. But hey if parents are willing to take it on the chin and not hold these ppl accountable then so be it... We'd been better off if we'd kept Coach E esp from a role model standpoint.

  7. I agree, people will take their kids other places. It’s so unfortunate. I agree I want what’s best for our kids. By showing support I meant regardless of who administration puts in there , we have to support the boys. We can voice our opinions all day long, we can request who we want all day long, we can do all that…. At the end of the day we have been shown that administration isn’t listening. Instead of screaming that Greenback football is doomed, we still have to support the ones that pad up and walk out there. They don’t need to hear that stuff, they need to know that regardless they have a community that supports them and believes in them. We all know what this group that is in there now is capable of, we know that they have grit and play with heart. We can be upset, I’m not saying any of this has gone right. I’m just saying that remember who all this has truly impacted.

  13. TC 97 team was special. They didnt have a single standout as they were all studs! Honestly, it would have been hard pressed to find a team in the state to beat them. I still remember seeing Scruggs run down the tail back from the back side DE spot for a loss. For those that dont know, Mr. Scruggs played at 6'4 275ish range as a guess. He may have been heavier. The only problem with the stats previously stated, they starters typically only played 2 quarters. And someone mentioned them punting to Monterey on 1st down, truth i saw it.

  14. I put many sources (TSSAA, Coach T, and Hudl) together to get schedules as complete as I can and then post them on Coach T. Then, I look at who is missing games and post that information.

  16. There is no doubt that the talent level is down. Memphis is really low comparatively to other years. We all know that talent comes in cycles then occasionally you'll get a super group like 2006 with Willie Kemp, Wayne Chism, Thaddeus Young, and Brandan Wright. Coaches aren't being hired for their coaching ability in some places. In basketball, schools are looking to hire coaches that are young and have connections to AAU programs that have connections to kids with the hope of getting players to a school. So many conversations with coaches have these phrases, "________ was supposed to come here." or "That kid was supposed to play at ________ school but went to __________." If you get a player great but why not spend time growing a developing the players you have? But on the flip side some coaches are scared to develop kids because they'll put in the time and work and the kid will leave and go somewhere else.

  18. I am by no means suggesting GR isSuggesting he built that program is a little bit of exaggeration. He didn't come into a program that was in shambles, he took over after they went 35-12 the previous 4 years. But during his 5 years off success, not sure his last year was too good, (which could have been part of his departure, realization of how difficult it can be without superior athletes) he had 3 TN Titan football winners. 2 of his players went on to play at D1 schools. He had the Jimmy's and Joe's. He didn't take a toyota corolla and turn it into this 400 horsepower machine, he took the keys to a 450 horsepower camaro, pressed the gas and steered. I'm not suggesting they shouldn't bring him back either, but some of you act like he is a Guru of a coach, and I disagree with that. I also think if he sees the talent pool start drying up he would be quick to search for a new job and some of you all would justify it for him. Greenback has potential this year and if he came back and they were successful, little credit would be given to the athletes they have and the easier schedule and it would be a bunch of I told you sos. But time will tell, I am curious to see what they decide. The kids needd ti be priority and future of the program needs to be the focus.

  19. Both posts are spot on. My point was that during the tournament wasn't the time, and the players aren't to blame for the skill level drop-off. Until "team concept" coaching re-enters our system from a young age, as well as focus on fundamental skills, the best basketball in this country is in the rearview mirror. Not too long ago, I could take a short drive and see D1 (future pro) prospects play right here in West Tennessee. Bolivar, Southside, Liberty, Obion County, Hardin County, and Haywood County all produced one or more high level prospects in the rural areas, not to mention the Memphis teams...can't find a solid D1 type around here now with a radar tracking device, yet somehow football kids are bigger, stronger, faster, and more talented than they were then on average.

  23. I thought about this angle and have settled on the notion that wrestlers on this level aren't quitters. Assuming he is not actually injured, I would say that that I don't know what I would do if put in his same situation. This was way more than just another regular season tournament; more than the Big Tens; more than Midlands, The Scuffle, or even every other NCAA tournament he has wrestled in. This was a legacy defining tournament. These kinds of outcomes can break a person, and if someone as hardcore as Spencer Lee can be broken by this then I have to assume 99% of us would be as well. The only person who can probably relate to Spencer is Dan Gable. Hopefully he has been there to offer encouragement. Also I think Penn State had pretty much put any doubts to rest on who was going to win the team title by Saturday morning, so nothing Spencer could do on that day was going to make any difference. Maybe if the team race was in the balance we would have seen him wrestle for third. I would like to think so. Bottom line is that he gets a pass from me on this one.

  24. I would hate to think that Spencer quit bc he didnt win his semis match. He has accomplished WAY too much and fought through alot of adversity to give up and not wrestle it out for 3rd place. However, that same thought did cross my mind as well when I saw/heard he wasn't coming back on Saturday. To be fair, that is easy to do when you dont see an obvious injury, like what happened in the Munoz match. I hope that's not the case, but I guess time will tell. On a side note, I think the 2023 tournament was one of, if not the most historic tournament of all-time! You had Yianni become a 4-time champ (only 5th ever), Spencer upset in the semis trying to bc a 4 timer, RBY upset in the finals trying to bc a 3 timer, 2 wrestlers that won their 3rd and now have a chance to bc 4 timers in Starocci and Brooks (Starocci has 2 yrs left and can get to 5) and that's not including O'Toole who just won his 2nd as a true sophomore. I honestly believe that in 20-30 yrs we'll look back at this tournament and say it was one of the most historic tournaments of all-time!

  25. The changing of the game itself is to blame. It doesn't matter how many classifications their are. The talent in basketball in general is down because of AAU and influencer basketball. No one plays team defense, bad shots, no strategy, less skill, etc... is the cause of the decline of the game. Rebounding and defense are essential and it is avoided like the plague. Look at how wild the NCAA tournament has been the past few years. The strategy is simply try to beat the guy in front of you and throw up a wild shot and hope to get bailed out.

  26. I applaud every team that makes it here as they can only play the teams who are in front of them, at the same time there’s no way a semifinal game should be a blow out especially one decided by 40 points like MLK yesterday . That should never happen in a state tournament, if they are truly are the best 8 teams in the classification it wouldn’t happen! T$$AA needs to start noticing what everybody else can see. It’s becoming so watered down you can barely taste the Coke. Then you got Charter and Magnet schools handpicking players and playing rural county schools in 1 and 2a instead of competing in the correct divisions.

Bryant Blackman-Current Bradley Assistant Alan Morris- Current Head Coach of Walker Valley Heath Eslinger- Founder of "A Better Way" Shawn Cordell Andy Morris- Current Assistant Coach of Walker Valley Al Morris-Current Athletic Director of Cleveland High School Adam Rains-Current Assistant Coach of Walker Valley

  32. Tapp is there past his time and needs to move on. He's at the point where he is hurting the athletics, but its all because of who he knows on the administrative side and won't get rid of him. I have watched him with more talent the SP and lose 5-6 games easily. This is why I moved my kids from HHS to OSHS as I will not allow my son to be coach by him. If he would leave I would bring my boy back and I am sure Hickman wouldn't have left either if Tapp wasn't the coach.
