  1. Well then I am in agreement with you. Take away the Fowlers and Szymborski and they don't even win state in D1 this year. They do work hard and pour into their youth, but they seem afraid to admit they greatly benefit from recruiting. But they call out other programs for doing it? That being said, I stand by my statement: they are using the same formula as any other top 50 teams in the county. And they should keep using it. No one is getting there with kids from one elementary school. We need more top 50 teams, not less.

  4. Whatever it was that happened within the Baylor team or school is nobody’s business outside the program. High school kids sometimes make poor choices, for which there are consequences. Athletic participation is a privilege not a right, and that privilege is granted at the behest of the coach, the athletic department and the administration. Let’s leave this forum as what it should be. About the wrestling mat, not the commentary about how programs operate or recruit or don’t recruit. Focus on the mat.

  8. The streak ends. Mccallie wins 39-32. Mccallie gets a pin at 175 in the final match to win. Joyner for Baylor led most of the way. Cross put him on his back to take 8-6 lead and pinned him. Rex did a great job of giving Baylor a chance. Bumped Max to 190 and Mal Puckett from 132 to 144. Congrats to Mccallie. They are going to be scary in the coming years.

  13. We all know that AE is loaded with talent every year. Sure they have the best youth league in the county. They won a lot of knox county youth league championships. The ones they did not win I think they were at least in it. Turtle can correct me where I'm wrong. He and the other AE faithful also know that the youth league teams do not make their way to AE for HS. Stevens was able to keep kids there but recruiting wasn't the same as it is now by any means. I don't think AE will ever be back. Too many parents living through their kids, taking hand outs of all types.

  14. You said it best. Pretty much every city Knoxville school is a feeder program for the upper tier of Knoxville schools. The sad part is I don't see this dynamic changing until something is done by Knox County. Once the one time transfer rule is approved there will be little chance of a school being able to break through the glass ceiling and get to that top tier imo.

  16. That's why I was nervous playing NG cause they beat Boone and oak ridge. Boone has 2 wins over Greenville without Flores. I think 1a is pretty dang tough with cland and NG

  17. Have you listened? He talked about traveling their #### off , and how the parents understand what it takes to win and how he started the girls program from finding the toughest girls in cleveland haha sounds like he recruited the hallways. Haha The hate is strong for Cleveland’s dominance in boys and now getting stronger and stronger in girls. Must be sickening.

  18. Has anyone had the chance to listen to the podcast with Bosken and Mike Hatcher! It sounds like he lays out the entire recruiting process! You may want to take a listen to that.

  21. 100%!!!!! Lucas Szymborski came and stamped his name at Cleveland because of hard work. Kid and family noticed what Cleveland had and decided to show up and compete with the best and proved he is one of the top wrestlers/football players in the state.

  24. I certainly was not trying to diminish anything the past members and leaders of our program have contributed to making Cleveland what it is today. I am deeply thankful for those contributions. I am simply sick of hearing about Allan Jones’ money and that is what everyone who is a detractor seems to believe is the reason the program is what it is. Coach Miller is a legend, as are the others that took up the reigns after him. Those guys get credit for the legacy and the guys here now get credit for what has been accomplished the last decade. I appreciate Allan’s support and all the other great supporter’s like Mark Smith and other local businesses, for they have certainly made things easier; but, I stand by what I said before about the biggest reasons for the current level of success. I will leave it that.

  25. I’ve been at another school as an Asst. (Bradley). Then started my own club. Ball was already rolling with Schriver (Godfather of the program). Al came in as an Asst and they both put Cleveland on the map. We came along and were just loaded with athletes. And you are right about the athletes. We were as blue collar as they came. I’m telling you…you’d have to kill us to beat us.

  27. Austin Roadrunners are having a hard time finding a coach. Most coaches do not want to coach Austin Roadrunners because they know they will get mercy ruled by Alcoa Tornado. Alcoa Tornado can beat Austin Roadrunners by 50 points every single year if they want to do it. It would happen. I guarantee it. Do you want to bet me? Turtle and Captain Guru will both be pushing up daisies before Austin Roadrunners make it back to a state title game. I am Captain Guru and I approve this message.

  31. Everett Bulldogs, Walland Indians and Townsend Tigers last year was in 1976 football season before closing to go into Heritage. In 1979 William Blount opened taking in Friendsville Falcons, Lanier Eagles while about 350 or so were moved from Heritage that would have been zoned for WB and a school 2 miles away Porter Panthers was fed into Heritage to offset the ones going to WB. There was such a bitter rival between Walland and Porter I'm pretty sure that was the safest way to put them together after the rivalry was gone and done with. Madisonville Tornadoes and Vonore Blue Devils last year was the in1994 and both were pathetic in football as you could get it and a big reason Sequoyah has been so bad. There were many times it was so bad at Vonore only 10-12 came out for football and they had to go out and beg kids to play to avoid throwing in the towel and not having a team that season and all the coaches they had would quit after one season to get out of that mess. That's one big reason Sweetwater was 2-8, Sequoyah 2-8 and Tellico was 1-9. Monroe County is one big mess led by a pack of idiots.
