Both Charger teams came back from big deficits to win. The boys trailed Church Hill 20-10 at the half. Won 39-30 to advance to semis and next weeks area tourney. I've heard Dugger beat Vance in the nightcap by a considerable margin but have not confirmed.

Thanks for the information. I actually sent an e-mail to tricitiessports.com asking why there was no coverage on the Middle 8 Conference tournament. Ron Bliss responded rather quickly and said:

"We actually had someone there collecting results, but he sent them in a form I could not open and I am trying to get them repeated in a usable form so we can include them with the other results. We also hope to have pictures from the games Saturday. We should have them posted later today."

Hmmm, Volunteer at Crockett. Well, I wasnt there but sure feel like I was. One conclusion I have come to... Stokomo is making sense here. Both programs and communities took a black eye on this one.

I do find it funny to see who is sitting on the edge of their keyboard here, just loving the opportunity to down Volunteer. Down their coach and style of play if you must, hey its a free board. Rules are in place, they were broken, and the penalties were inforced. Kids from both Crockett and Volunteer will be watching the next two games. Personally, I won't defend Coach Whitt, ever. I seriously doubt he cares what we think anyway. But, I do want one thing to be said. Who of us can blame a kid, Trent, for defending himself/fighting back/what ever you deem it? He's a good kid with college ball potential. His parents are good people and they have been raising him right. In the heat of a tough game, in an already hostile enviroment, do you think all of your Vikes and Indians, or any other team player, would have just took it and "allowed the refs to do their jobs". Come on. That kind of control is seldom seen. Honestly put your players in the situation of being punched in this exact situation. What do you really think most other kids would do? Now I know there would be a few that might have the control, maybe Sly from DB or Bailee Dick from South. But 95% wouldn't stand there and count on the same refs who were not controlling the games all night.

Dont crucify the kids. It could have been worse. There could have been players rolling in the lane during free throws ... /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

Cameron may very well be a fine young man off the court and outside of Whitmores system...but I have personally seen him taking part in the "overly aggressive" theme of the Falcons on several occasions (throwing elbows, pushing after the play is over, etc...). If you're looking for me to sugarcoat this situation (whether anyone cares or not) it aint gonna happen. I just call it as I see it. Now if he would have simply swung or punched the other kid back that would have been a spontaneous reaction....but did you see the clip, or the pics /ohmy.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":o" border="0" alt="ohmy.gif" /> ?!!!!!!! The kid from Crocket and anybody else wearing a white jersey were literally running for their lives from this maniac! There is no excuse for his action (or should I say reaction)...I know it, and you know it...so lets just drop it. What's wrong with just saying he made a mistake...their is no excuse for his action but he is deeply apologetic for any harm that he has done to any individual, his team and schools reputation, and the Big 9 conference...this will not happen again. Nobody wants to hear the sad excuses that you guys keep pulling out. The next thing you will be saying it was his hard childhood on the streets of Brooklyn NY that has brought out all this aggression. /laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> Just face up and APOLOGIES. They really need to add a Public Relations class there in Hawkins. /tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />

You are 100% correct. I thought when you quoted the CAP1 "dogging" you were referring to my post, but I see it was itsock.... my bad......

CAP1, for your information, Trent was addressed by his father as you eluded to. I don't like putting personal matters on here, but you insist on speaking about things you are ASSUMING. Did you think that he doesn't have parents that are concerned about him and keep him in check? I can tell you from first hand experience that Cameron is a great kid with a great set of parents. Anyway....as I said in my previous post, please let me know when you find the quote (or in my entire post) where I defended what happened. It was embarassing for both sides. That's exactly what I said. GOD Bless......

His parents addressing the situation is good news to me. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" /> It lets me know that all is not lost in the Hawkin. But I bet you a fat pig that the same judgement will not come down from either the AD or Coach W. The W stands for WIN by any means necessary...for those of you that don't know. /biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

Out of respect I will say that you are right...you weren't defending the Falcons or Coach W in your last post...I was wrong. But between you and me...you know that there has been more than one occasion that your wife has asked you about a nightmare you must have been having...because you kept repeating "he doesn't real condone and passively promote thug tactics...really he doesn't" in your sleep. /laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> I think I got my point across...so I'm done with it.

All is not lost in Hawkins county! The Volunteer Falcons are coached by Whittemore and are "addressed" by their parents each and every day. Coach W has done a lot for these boys and to be frank I have seen the same type of pushing, elbowing, "dirty play" from each team of the Big 9. What happened was pitiful and each team is at fault, along with the officials. But, I rest assured that the ones ejected from the game along with Cameron Trent are fine boys - ON and OFF the court. Honestly, Give Whitt a break. About the pictures . . . where was the ones with the Crockett kid throwing the first punch? What about the fan being escorted out? And the AD director at Volunteer . . . Jimmy Wallen is a upstanding Christian man who has the welfare of all kids in mind and at heart. Too bad he wasn't at the game; the AD at Crockett could have used a little help.

After talking with a few folks, I'm hearing that "first punch" was thrown after an elbow was given first. We can debate that all we want. I'm just saying what was said.

I'm glad Wallen is a Christian man. We need leaders like him. Your right we could have used him at the game. Maybe he could have said a few prayers for some of those Falcon parents........ /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" /> not to mention some on the other side too /blush.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blush.gif" />

I like your posts and you seem to be an honest man. Noone can debate video. I took the liberty to call Coach Whitt and got three video taped games, TN High, DB & the Crockett game. Why? Because noone has said anything all year about the play of the Falcons until now. So I surely would see the taught tacitcs in these other games, since CAP and WACO suggest this is taught. I watched the Falcons build a ten point lead against the Vikes with only three minutes to go only to miss 2 one-&-ones and a total of six free throws and let that game slip away. There was not ONE incident of cheap play in that game and CAP never address the game, even after I asked him in a post previously...hmmmm. I then turned my attention to the DB games and surely there should have been incidents of cheap plays, but to my dismay, there were none in either games and the DB faithful never said one word about any cheap or dirty plays in either game, even the one where it was close til the fourth quarter. then I watched the Crockett game and it started out with fans yelling obscenities at the officials, as was told to me about the girls game getting out of hand. Moving along to the second quarter and almost at halftime.......the Center for Crockett and Trent were bat tling for position and the Crockett player landed an elbow in Trent's chest, to my unliking Trent landed one back, and the refs let this go on until the Crockett kid threw two punches, none landed. Then I was supposed to see Trent retaliate with his own and there was none made by Trent. He did however kick around when the maylee started and for that he should have been ejected and disciplined along with the others. This is not my observation. This is on video. I will repeat...this was a bad situation for both sides....GOD Bless

Stokomo, I know your are a fine man. One of the best in East Tn. I applaud you for being able to find video tapes of 3 games in which the Volunteer Falcons did not play dirty/ excuse me 2 video taped games. In all due respect, it doesn't matter how many post you make supporting the Volunteer program and coach, everybody knows what the deal is.

Stoke??¦why couldn??™t you just let it go! WJHL played the video for the whole world to see, and what we all saw was Trent with his arms wrapped tightly around the Crocket kid??™s waist trying to wrestle him down to the ground while Whitmore dived in to try and break his death grip. And they also have a picture on tricitiessports.com with Tent augury clutching the boys head in a headlock while EVERYONE (teammates, coaching staff, and police alike) are trying to get him to break his grasp!!!!!!!! SO WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT when you say ???he was just kicking around in the melee????????? THAT??™S A LUDICROUS STATEMENT??¦HE WAS THE MELEE!!! So take off those Falcon glasses that Whitmore gave you and LET IT GO before you discredit yourself even further??¦at least in my eyes. You have no argument??¦Volunteers reputation is what it is and there is nothing that you can do or say that will turn that around in anybodies eyes (outside the Falcon camp) anytime soon given this last incident! I have to admit that in the first draft of this post I had harsher words for you??¦but I rethought them. I must say though that I feel you are doing yourself and your reputation an injustice by perusing this any further than an apology at this time. Just tryin to help a brotha out.

About the THS vs Volunteer game I can??™t remember much of anything about that game other than WE WON and YOU LOST!!! I could nitpick the aspects of the game??¦but at the end of the night that??™s all that count. Besides??¦I myself blame many of these close games on the poor inconsistent officiating??¦because I personally don??™t think Volunteer can play with THS or DB on an unbiased playing field. The reason there wasn??™t much comment about the game after the game was because the outcome was just as predicted, and the score??¦well??¦you know how I feel about that. Why don??™t you re-watch the films and mark down all the inconsistent and one sided calls made by the officials early in these games and get back to me. The other night in the Boone game this idiot official called traveling on Corey as he brought the ball down the court and shuffled his feet to make a move??¦in mid dribble. Some of these guys are incompetent and I wish there was someone that would hold them accountable when they do such a poor job like in the Vol vs Crocket game.

CAP1....I could care less how I look in your eyes. Like I said and you still refuse to see my posts, I am not taking up for anybody in any situation. I also said that the Volunteer program will be looked at in this manner because of the past. If you can't see that, then I don't know what to tell you. Did you see the Crockett kid swing at Cameron? No! And that is the reason he had him wrapped up so he wouldn't hit him. i am not applauding anybody's effort s in the awful game. You do have a thick skull and I again will say "PLEASE POINT OUT WHERE I HAVE DEFENDED ANYONE'S ACTIONS!!!" You keep dancing around my question like you are on "So You Think You Can Dance" reruns. And your excuses as to why there are so many close games with TN High this year is REALLY an excuse maker. One or two...maybe..but TN High is just like DB this year....they play to the level of their competition. The foul descrepancy you speak of had them almost even for that night against Volunteer. DB has righted their ship up to this point. I do hope you guys the best success there can be, but don't sit and talk about a 15 second segment of what you saw AFTER all the stuff that was allowed to happen before. But as you always do, you will reply and dodge my original question and have a smart reply. Have at it but I guarantee you this.......you would be singing a different tune if your son was swung at two times and he just wrapped the guy up. You would have an endless assault against the Crockett kid and say that he deserves to be punished more than what was given to him. Now who is talking a double standard now? GOD Bless.......

Who cares? It's over and nobody can change what they did or did not do in the game. IF my kid were swung at twice I would have a hard time punishing my child for what Trent did on WJHL / TriCitiesSports. I honestly cannot name ANY athlete on ANY team that would tolerate being punched without retaliating. I wasn't there so I have no opinion on who is to blame. It sounded like the officiating let it get away from them all night and the crowd was in a frenzy that radiated to the floor. No excuse for the behavior but it is what it is. Volunteer earned a bad rep a few years back ( rightfully deserved ) but in the last couple of years I haven't seen any problem with the way they play. Some say the coach teaches it, if so, he should be sent packing not the boys that want to play ball.

Over the past couple/few years Volunteer had a couple of players who did things they shouldn't have on the basketball floor...some of the antics were merely classless and some where quite dangerous...we can go back through specific games and I will point them out...but as I have said before, I do not think Coach Whittamore condones the bad behavior and I am sure he doesn't promote it...I believe Coach Whittamore wants his team to play hard and to be physical, so does Coach Witcher, Coach Morgan, Coach Dyer, Coach Cutlip and all the other coaches in the Big 9...I have on many occasions pointed out Jared Mann, a very good post player at Volunteer, who would be called a physical player, but not a dirty player...he was fun to watch and a very solid competitor...the way he played, I believe to be the way Coach Whittamore taught...and I don't want to put names on here of the players that I think tarnished to reputation of the Falcons, but I think the deal on Friday wasn't due to bad kids (and I don't know the kids except to watch them play), but was rather a grouping of bad decisions and bad behavior that rightfully should be punished...and it is all too often that the second offender is the one most noticed...

how about we just play ball and calm down all the screaming and finger pointing...kids are playing games, supposedly for the enjoyment of the competition; it is high time we get back to a finesse game and stop playing tackle basketball...officials are another story...we have some outstanding ones calling in Northeast Tennessee and we have some that need a lot more training...I do agree that there needs to be better training and accountablity...one suggestion I have is that everyone who thinks the refs are so bad, go take the test and get into the system and become one...

and if that sounds like I am taking up for somebody or anybody, well so be it...make the people who do stupid things accountable...but don't attempt to make everyone wearing the same uniform guilty by association...

    • RR, you might remember. Didn’t someone hide the kicking shoe that game? It seems I remember we had missed a kick the week before, and we needed all the points we could get. We thought we had a better chance going for two, so $?&@$ hid the shoe after the first miss that game. No one on our sideline looked for it very hard.
    • I will never forget the 1983 Heritage vs Maryville game. I remember driving home and listening to WGAP. Can't remember the announcers name. He asked Coach Story why he kept going for 2? Story told him " Why didn't you ask Renfro that last year"
    • TSSAA will let them all go to Mase.
    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
