Have any team won the State running the WingT lately?? I know Monroe at Cleveland ran it years ago and won ....

No team that has run the Wing-T has ever won at the state's highest level, although Hendersonville has been close several times (4 runner-up finishes). Coach Aydellot was able to do it at Hillsboro a class down in 4A (when there was a 5 class system)

A Wing-T team won't beat a Coach Harmon and Coach Saulsberry led Defense...

We did put 49 up on White Station and over 300 yards on the ground in the playoffs last year running that Wing T. I believe that was more than anyone else scored on them all year. They did play Oakland, South Panola, and Whitehaven 2 times if I am not mistaken. In Whitehaven's championship season didn't Mt Juliet put 35 up running that Wing T in a 42-35 loss. Probably just luck in both cases.

Right now, I have Mt. Juliet as a team that is probably going to finish 4th or 5th in their district. Even without the injury to Chowbay, Mt. Juliet would have struggled to win game because theyre defense just was not good at all, giving up almost 30 ppg. If Mt. Juliet can win big against Lebanon and Antioch, along with pulling an upset against Station Camp (theyre not beating Blackman), then the outlook for their season looks a little better.

I think Hendersonville is clearly the favorite in 9-AAA, but every spot after that is up for grabs. If Mt. Juliet can shore up the defense and if Chowbay can play to his potential, then they could have a pretty good bounce back season. I think this is the season we find out if Trey Perry is a long term solution for Mt. Juliet.

That's a fair evaluation based on last year's performance. I think you will see the defense is much better this year. Should be one of the best defenses; if not the best D in 9AAA with 8 starters back. Only the season will tell if I am right. The key will be how the O responds and picks up the spread offense.

I agree Hendersonville is the favorite until someone knocks them off. Mt Juliet, Gallatin, Station Camp, and Beech will all be tough games.

It will be an exciting season in 9AAA.

Under the Perry's, scoring points has never been the problem, but they have never had what I would call a great defense.

Mt. Juliet nearly did in 2012. If it is just a run-exclusive version of the Wing-T, I agree Whitehaven shouldnt lose. But the best Wing-T offenses have learned that you no longer can rely only on the run and consistently win in the playoffs. Hendersonville returns just about everybody at a skill position on offense, as well as some sophomores that should contribute. If they lose games this season, more than likely it will not be because of a failure to put points on the board.

Close but NO cigar don't count.

Senator, A Wing T offense gave your Tiger D fits in 2012 semis. Had it not been for incredible game by M Dodson,or the outstanding catch by Perry right before the half; Mt Juliet would have been playing Maryville for the title. Take one big play away for the Tiger O and the game has a different outcome.

Not saying the Hendersonville will even play Da' Haven; but they have an outstanding O and a very good team.

Mark Dodson had incredible games against everyone that year. They came to Whitehaven and were competitive but we had the lead the whole game... A Wing-T team won't beat Da Haven

Whitehaven isn't White Station... With a healthy defense and with Harmon and Saulsberry leading the way with amazing game planning, I can't see a full fledged Wing T team beating Whitehaven.

    • RR, you might remember. Didn’t someone hide the kicking shoe that game? It seems I remember we had missed a kick the week before, and we needed all the points we could get. We thought we had a better chance going for two, so $?&@$ hid the shoe after the first miss that game. No one on our sideline looked for it very hard.
    • I will never forget the 1983 Heritage vs Maryville game. I remember driving home and listening to WGAP. Can't remember the announcers name. He asked Coach Story why he kept going for 2? Story told him " Why didn't you ask Renfro that last year"
    • TSSAA will let them all go to Mase.
    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
