Governm
Because a large percentage of first round playoff games are huge mismatches that should never be played in the first place. Having roughly 56 teams in each classification with over half of them making the playoffs is just too watered down. 2-8/3-7/4-6 type teams don't belong in the playoffs. There is simply no justification for a state with the population of Tennessee to have 6 division 1 and 2 division 2 state champions. Definitely dilutes the "value" of those gold balls. Maybe so.... But! I think 7-3 and 6-4 teams should make the playoffs. If we do what some are suggesting you would have to pretty much have a perfect record to make the playoffs. And it would only make the problems we are seeing now even worse. Traditional powers would have an even bigger monopoly in state championships because talented kids would be fleeing their schools to go to the traditional powers so they have a better chance of going to the playoffs. It would just be the rich getting richer and the poorer getting poorer.

Does GA not crown 7 state champions every year under GHSA? I think there might be 3 crowned under the GISA as well.
Antwan
Let publics and privates play in regular season...split for playoffs.
cbg
True cbg but still they are not open zoned. If Metro Nashville Public Schools are not considered "open zoned" what would you call them?
workinprogress
The majority have very specific school zones. I guess that would make them zoned schools.
QSouth89
Go to a 4 class system with everyone (D1 & D2) back together. A. Small schools and NO private schools or magnet schools. AA Public schools and small private schools AAA Small financial aid giving schools, magnet schools, public schools AAAA Financial aid giving schools and large public schools Teams must finish in the top 2 of the district to advance to the playoffs Teams that do not qualify for the playoffs but have a winning record may participate in a bowl game. The TSSAA receives 25% of ALL ticket sales for bowl games. That's a great plan, makes sense too and its pretty even. Take it to Childress. So Ga has 9.7 million people and 7 champions, TN has 6.4 million people and 8 champions........yes way watered down. Going by the TN model, California with 39 million would need to have 25 class state champions!

NonUTFan
No matter what is discussed, be sure it has already been decided and will involve two things. 1. It MUST generate LOTS of income for the T$$AA. 2. The average person will NOT understand it. Follow the money. Football generates MOST of the income for the T$$AA. AMEN and too bad.
