Trezevant to forfeit all games; will have an audit on grades

It always takes a technicality

Technicality??? No matter what you'd like to believe, the kids don't attend school in order to play sports. The spirit of the rule broken is that football (in this case) is denied the student in order to motivate them to achieve better grades.

Four years ago Scotts Hill had the best shortstop in the region...his whole existence was based on baseball, and he let his grades slip. Credit recovery was available, but he fell short by less than one point...rather than "persuade" one of his teachers to give him "the benefit of the doubt" and alter just one of his grades, school administrators and his coaches saw to it that he sat out his entire junior season. This kid is now in college on a baseball scholarship...and on pace to graduate. Whether or not he can play baseball professionally has not been decided, but he will have a degree no matter what. If not for baseball, he would now be a high school dropout (from his own mouth)...that isn't a technicality.

Sure seems like a case of grade altering to me.  That is a serious offense.  If this offense is true, and it certainly appears to be true, then forfeiting games is the proper thing to do.  However, the TSSAA should also step in and ban them from post season play as well.  I would also go back to last years grades too.  If there are the same types of issues there, the TSSAA should make them forfeit the 2A championship and it should be declared vacant.

You know what...I'm not done yet!!! After thinking about this some more, It's really sad that people care more about kids "giving" their school a state title than the school giving the kids what they need to be successful in life. These teachers/coaches  involved have missed the opportunity to inspire these kids to learn...instead they have taught them that it's ok to lie and cheat in order to get ahead, or to get what they want. Get a good football career out of them for yourself, and send them into the world to fail because you didn't care for them enough to actually help them...everyone involved deserves to be terminated.

Oh wow. Ain't this sumin? As the Word says: "Be sure your sins will find you out". Saddest thing was already mentioned, those players not guilty & doing the right thing will suffer because of what the guilty ones did. And folk think what they do won't impact others. .. Just wow!

It's interesting that the article just states that Trezevant will forfeit all games until the investigation is complete. They could still sneak in the playoffs

Because of the overall weakness of Regions 7 and 8, I see only two forms of punishment that would have any teeth to it.  One would be to ban all players involved from playing the remainder of the season.  The second option would be to simply ban Trezevant from post season play this year.  Any lesser punishment and one region win would more than likely put them in the same spot as if nothing had happened.  Final punishment must have some real teeth to it.

    • Did this happen? Does anyone know? Ripley has their HC job posted on the bulletin board over the weekend.
    • Coalfield definitely isn't the same team they've had the past few years. They are still the favorites to make it out of their region because of their pitching. They have 1 arm that sits low to mid 80s and 2 other arms that are mid to high 70s with good off speed stuff. If you can avoid their top 3 bats in their lineup then you have a shot to beat them. Their 4-9 hitters are average at best. Wartburg's ace was able to shut them down last week in the game Wartburg won 4-2.
