Here's another unsolicited critique from someone watching the game on TV without a dog in the hunt. Meigs looked like a team ready for a big playoff game or a BCS championship. SP looked like a team playing in the Poulan Weedeater Bowl.

Meigs: Not the first time I've seen a team lose a great player one year and have a better team the following year. Coaches showed up with a game plan and the players executed. Looked like the objective was to take away the SP run game (especially #4) and make their QB win the game. Only negative was the offense came out in the 3rd Quarter exactly the way they did in the championship game last December - completely flat and unimaginative. Looked like they were content to try to start running out the clock at the beginning of the 3rd quarter.

SP: Having watched the 2019 undersized SP lineman whip the much bigger Meigs offensive and defensive lines last year I was shocked that these new SEC looking lineman got pushed around on 75% of the plays.  QB had a bad night - part of it was inaccurate shotgun snaps and lots of pressure from the D line. Team discipline was nonexistent. Stupid, stupid penalties. Clock management was horrid. Onside kick execution was worse. Offensively they looked like they were trying to run 4 different offenses with no continuity and nothing being set up. No plan to get #28 the ball with #4 being bottled up and #1 being off. As bad as they looked they only lost by a score.

28 should touch the ball somehow  at least 10 times a game. He might be a WR, but you have to script plays for him. He sure would be a good lead blocker for Frame also. But, I guess our coaches see things different. Glad you as not a SP fan brought that up.  I remember talking to Coach Ken Colquitt and Coach Dave Baxter year's ago, and they told me that athletes will rise to the occasion and you don't have to keep coaching them what to do. Just let them go out and make plays, but when they don't get the ball ,well, can't do much about that.

When Kelly gets back there won’t be any questions about who does and doesn’t need the ball. Good luck stopping him, 4, and 6. Hide the women and children.

Only thing from here out that can beat South Pitt is covid and with almost all their football players at home each week that probably wont happen either.

And when Kelley gets healthy BOOM!

Man oh man,if you watch the west power P boy's we wear the quick out to the flat toss out ! Get your best hands and pure athletes out there and let em work ! I remember In the 2018 game for us against TC, we got Dickson the RB out there and got some good tough yards.

I never have understood either running your fastest players to the short side of the field on sweeps. Seems like you would want to give them more room. I think sometimes you can over complicate the game when you have so many weapons.

Didn't understand why they didn't get him the ball on screens or in the flat.

Re #28: For Friday night, it wouldn’t have helped. Moving forward, yes. Great slot player. He had success with routes at 8+ Yds.  But 28 was handled by a smaller (but not weaker)  Meigs player within 5 yds of scrimmage.  I hear the Meigs OLBs get aroused when opponents bring their screen game.  Could be a nasty rumor. Didn’t we send SP our Greenback film?

I like your take on Meigs, I feel on the 3rd quarter we were satisfied with the score and honestly were a little tired. From the get go in this game we were playing like we do when we get behind. It's extremely fun to watch. I feel we played nearly a perfect game with the exception of the 3rd quarter. In big games you cant let up like we did. We need to keep playing like were behind the whole game it's easy to say but hard to teach. When the lead got smaller we finally kicked it in gear again and played like I know we could again. I'm extremely proud of them and what they accomplished.

    • If this is true, South Gibson is taking a big chance. Passing on an experienced coach for a guy who has never coached at the high school level is a high risk move, especially in that district and region.
