I guess ol' Keef isn't the one with the memory loss. Apology was posted November 13, 2013. Thanks for playing along.

He wasn't the only one running his piehole about the McK mess.  Many regular Jasper posters vaporized after that along with a few more after the Riki departure.

Coach Jones has every right to do whatever he pleases with the schedule. It’s his team now. However, I still do not and will never understand this decision. Sometimes, adults can get in the way of kids memories.   The rivalry has always been heated. There have been blowouts on both sides. I’ve heard some people say it just doesn’t mean as much anymore. I don’t understand that reasoning. Look back just a few years ago when Kenemore caught the game winning touchdown over his great friend Hale. Look at the crowd surrounding the track rows deep at that game. Watch their reactions as he brings in the td pass on the double move. If you pull it up on YouTube, you see doctors, lawyers, admin, etc. pumping their arms in the air with passion. Why? An amazing play was just made to beat the county rival. So, to me as a fan, and to the players it does mean a lot. I also don’t understand it from a financial stand point. Pirates are playing North Jackson at their place and Murphy at their place coming off a Covid year where we already lost big gates in Jasper and Red Bank. What team is going to bring in the big money gate this year? At the end of the day, I’ll always bleed orange and black and support our boys.I think Coach Jones will do great things here. I just wish that we would continue a rivalry the young kids in the peewees look forward to playing in. Go pirates!

My concern about North Jackwagon is whether they come to SP in 2022.

IDK the reasoning behind canceling Jasper, but, it is what it is. I was upset last year at them canceling and especially when they could have made the game happen.  I was upset about it, but after some time to think about it and realize I should be acting more like and adult than a over zealous fan that can't distinguish reality from football, I thought, this is football, and for the kids. I sure wish we were playing. 8 miles to Jasper or over 100 on I24 to Murphy?  HMM?? I'm a huge SP alumni as well as my brother who goes to most of the games  and my kids and nieces and nephews and a lot of friends, but most of us want be able to make that game this year because of work. So, how many Murphy people are going to be in the same situation as I am this year and not be able to come to the Beene next year? If we should have done anything it would have been to take Grundy off the schedule.  Nothing at all against them, but I'd like to see the gate receipts from Jasper compared to Grundy. I guess most of the young men will be doing a lot of fund raisers it looks like this year.  All I can say is, if your adult, act like one. Just because of a few and very few geezers is why all this crap is happening and it's very sad.

Youngun... Which one of these skillet heads told you that Keef said something that needed an apology? Or did you read that on that Nosey Book Pirate Fan Page?

Accusations were posted on CoachT in 2013. An apology was posted on CoachT in 2013. Nothing more to be said about the past. If you know... you know...

I'm guessing Ol' Keef is gonna be like the Boogey Man... He's gonna be the legend that you skillet heads tell campfire stories about to the future skillet heads for generations to come... Yep recon so...

Whatever makes you sleep better at night!

Had a little time on my hands so I decided to do a deep dive on the rivalry. I'm and old head, so some of this was new information to me.

The series stands at 52-40 right now in favor of SP.

- SP has led the series for its entire existence with the exception of 1932-36 when MC held an 8-3 lead.

- SP has won 2 games or more in a row 12 times.

There longest streaks where:

5 (1933-37)

4 (1941-43 played twice in one year)

6 (1946. 1949-53)

4 (1962-65)

4 (1974-77)

8 (2006-13)

4 (2016-2020)

- MC was down in the rivalry 32-17 going into the year of 1978. From 1978-1995 MC went 16-2 in that time span (put that in your pipe and smoke it OP :thumb:) to bring the series to 34-33 SP.

- MC has won 2 games or more in a row 9 times.

Their longest streaks where:

6 (1927-32)

8 (1978-85)

8 (88-95)

Fun Facts

In 1985 SP was the state runner up and lost to MC 35-21.

In 2016 MC was the state runner up and lost to SP 24-17. This was the second best game of all time in the series that I have been able to witness during my lifetime.

In 1994, both teams won the state in their classifications, SP in 1A and MC in 3A. When both teams met that year, MC came out on top 6-0, thanks to some guy named Eric Westmorland who returned a Perry Hutchins INT for the only points of the game. This game is hands down the best game of all time in the series in my opinion.

I was alive but not old enough to really comprehend what was taking place in the 1969 game. My dad and the majority of the really old folks are of the opinion that this was the best game of all time. SP won 28-22 in a close one. This was also the first year they won the state championship.

An honorable mention would be the 2004 game, where Scott Wilson went streaking down the field to put the Warriors up with less than a minute left in a 27-22 MC victory. Some folks say he and Eric are still running till this day :roflolk:

MC best class since they began playing football went a total of 56-1 over the span of 4 years and won state 3 of the 4 years in 2 different classifications (2A and 3A)

SP has had some classes with some good runs but I am unsure of which had the highest win total. Need some of you Pirates fans to enlighten us on this.

Hope you guys enjoy this, and hopefully this gives some of the outsiders like BPM and others some info on it.

I assume the 56-1 was 1992-95? Should have been 57-0. KC was stubborn and refused to try the short FG trailing Kingston 7-6 in a pouring rain on the road in the 1993 quarterfinals, because they had missed the extra point earlier. They failed to punch it in. McMinn Cent. upset Kingston the next week, and were blown out by (I believe) Spring Hill in Nashville in the game before Cleveland played Brentwood Academy. BTW, I wasn’t at the Kingston game, just remember reading about it.

I was there. We had a couple TDs called back and some rough calls. Colquette said on that 4th and goal from the 1 yd line "If you can't punch it in from here you don't deserve to win." Well you know the rest of the story.

We played Kingston the following year in the qtr finals at home and won it I believe 42-0.

He had a point I guess. No dog in the MC-SP fight, you both have great programs, but what you guys pulled off in 1995, scheduling all of those large class teams and beating everyone of them, remains one of the most impressive things I have ever seen. Of course, it caught up with you a bit in 96.

    • A complete cultural change happened at Greeneville and the administration and community opened up their checkbooks.  What a lot of people don't know is Ballard was Zeller's OC for many years and stopped coaching for two years because Zeller and Ballard didn't see eye to eye on some things.  Zeller lead Greeneville to it's first ever Semi Final appearance in 2000 and lost 28-12 at Maryville and had them in the Quarter Finals in 2002 and 2003.  Z was a great coach but lost some control when it came to making workouts mandatory. (He learned from that Mistake and it was at LC when i coached with him.).  Z was let go going into my Senior Year and was replaced by Steve McCurry who was the one that turned the program around.  Steve had won a 4a state championship at AC Reynolds in Asheville and made the administration completely redo the weight room with new equipment, had a football period at the end of the school day to lift, started devil camp, and brought in coaches like Danny Bentley (Still the OL coach), Ballard as the OC, Cody Baugh (QB coach and still there), and even Spradlen who is Greeneville's head coach now as the DB's Coach.  McCurry only coached for two seasons at Greeneville and took a team that had a losing record the year before and finished my Senior Year making it to the Quarters and having a 10-3 record and then followed it up with a Semi Final appearance the next year with an 11-3 record and back to back conference championships.  Loved McCurry to death but the recession hit and the story i heard was he was still buying new equipment for the team that the Principal didn't authorize and his response was "I don't answer to you and only to Niswonger and Bewley" (Two huge donors).  That was it for him and they Promoted Ballard shortly after that.   Greeneville had always been relevant ever since the the late 70's under Coach Fred Sorrell's.  Since Sorrell's took over in 1977 Greeneville overall winning percentage is over 76%.  The biggest reason people might not have thought Greeneville was "Good" until Ballard was Greeneville always played up Classification wise and could never get over the hump. (When there were 3 classifications we played 3a, when it went to 5 we played 4a).  Greeneville is the largest its ever been with 953 students and where playing teams 2 or 3 times there size back in the day (I had a little over 800 kids in the school when i graduated in 2008).  Other teams always would know they would be sore after a game but depth took over and never won a Championship until Greeneville played in the classification the TSSAA actually assigned them. You had names like Dustin Moore (1993 Mr Football for 3a and who Phillip Fulmer said was one of the greatest athletes he ever recruited), James "Mud Turtle" Mayes, Brigham Lyons, Byron Gillespie, Frankie Debusk (National Champion Qb at Furman with GQ), Jasmine Lowery, Cody Baugh, The Greenway Brothers, Joe Watson (Furman), etc.  Now the cultural is from the Pee Wee league up and you grow up as a young kid wanting to wear the Greene and White.  Here is a really good link when it comes to anything Greeneville Football related. https://greenevillefootball.com/   I also don't coach anymore.  Z told me i was to smart with how the school systems are ran these days and ended up going into real estate in Knoxville which has been a great decision for my life.
    • Yes, they will. I'm wondering what kinds of strides Sale Creek will make heading into the second season under Coach Fitz.
    • No yellow stripes on the rug last night. Biggest crowd I’ve seen at 825 since the alco debacle.
    • I know most Pirate starters were seniors last year. Im not sure how accurate it is but someone said we only have 3 seniors. That Prep team will probably make some noise this coming season too.
