The problem with dropping Oakland is that this was the first year of a two year contract. That means you would potentially drop them both years at $2,500-$5,000 per year. Depending on terms of the contract. Shelling out that kind of money after two COVID interrupted years will be tough for any team.

Gotcha. Didn’t realize it was a 2 year contract . Maybe we can petition the Toronto Argonauts to buy out that contract. Heck it happens all the time with coach salaries.

He said in the beginning this was his dream job being an alumni from SP.  He said it has nothing to do with the money.  He just was happy to be back and had all these huge expectations and ideas for the community.  So I don’t think he left because of pay.  I think he realized how small of a program we really are and the funds to do things he wanted just weren’t there.  He or someone ran off our best fundraiser guy.  A program like ours can’t survive on just selling apparel and 1 raffle.  If you want to ride to away games in a nice charter bus, have pre-game and post-game meals, it’s gonna cost at least $3000-$5000 each away game and then probably near the same for home games because you gotta buy all the paint for the field.  And you all remember there were a lot of folks wanted Brad Waggoner, including Vic Grider, to get the job and not Chris.  If those folks were some of our biggest donators and volunteers, I’m willing to bet a lot of that extra help disappeared.  Not to mention Covid.  I’m mad, very mad, but I’m also the type to give a person the chance to explain their actions.  Just pray for these kids that whoever takes over will guide them, mentor them, and Coach them on and off the field.

Many good points, but all are things that could have been considered before accepting the job at SP. Coaches change jobs all the time, but the ones with solid character do it the "right way" concerning the kids and their feelings. If a high school program is run like it should be, it's more like a family than a sports team, and a coach who bails at this point for anything other than his own family at home is akin to the "dad" who goes for ice cream and never comes back home. South Pittsburg has athletes, coaching, and community support enough to not miss a beat after this, I just hope that it doesn't affect the kids mentally and emotionally. Punk move by Jones to abandon his army in the middle of the war.

EVERYONE knew that was a lie. SP faithful hoped it was true but most of them have been around long enough to know better. I believe most felt deep down this would happen but I don’t think many thought it would be this soon. Either way better off without a person that thinks this was an OK move around IMO.

That might work. Worth a shot. There is also a chance that both teams can mutually agree to cancel the games. But SP runs a risk of not being able to replace that game this season and you’ve not had any home gates. The coffers will be bare. I hate this for the players and for Paige & Heath. None of them deserve this.

    • Winfree's senior year was the season she needed to secure more college interest. That opportunity was taken away from her. A lot of false assumptions can be made about what happened and what the options are. Unfortunately, the former coach and administration did not allow Winfree to have due process. A lawsuit was filed for a reason, and it will run its course by people who conduct discovery and take depositions. Unless the parties settle out of court, a lot of the pertinent issues will come to the public surface. I wrote about many of the issues here: https://bdnewsletter.news/2023/11/17/grounds-for-investigation-and-suspension/ I interviewed Winfree after she was dismissed from the team and wrote about it here: https://bdnewsletter.news/2023/12/01/a-new-interview-with-sable-winfree/ Winfree had been on teams in Warren County since the fourth grade and never been dismissed from a team. The real questions are why was Winfree dismissed from the team, and why the administration backed a coach whom they did not rehire.
    • What is the hold up here? I have not heard anything in weeks. Are they waiting for the right person or is something else going on?
    • Per usual, we'll be hard to beat in the regular season, I'm sure. It's the post season that I'm more worried about, specifically the coaches. Maybe they'll be able to make some adjustments that will keep the momentum in our favor. How's Grays recovery coming along?
    • Something don’t add up here a college coach is not going to turn away a good player they need just because they didn’t get along with their high school coach
    • RR, you might remember. Didn’t someone hide the kicking shoe that game? It seems I remember we had missed a kick the week before, and we needed all the points we could get. We thought we had a better chance going for two, so $?&@$ hid the shoe after the first miss that game. No one on our sideline looked for it very hard.
