Sycamore Middle Coaching: A Disgrace to Young Men

Tonight, I watched the poorest example of sportsmanship by a "leader" of young men i have ever witnessed. Westmoreland Middle was up on Sycamore 24-0 at halftime. Sycamore's head coach requested to forgo the second half, however, the Westmoreland staff did not agree due to an opportunity to play the younger kids. This coach had his offense kneel on every play in the second half. Its bad enough to tell 12 and 13 year old boys to go out on the field and quit, but what happened next was inexcusable. At the end of the game, the teams lined up to shake hands, when the Sycamore coach yelled for his team to return to the sideline and turned his back to the Westmoreland team. Refusing to allow his young men the opportunity to display sportsmanship. This man is a disgrace to the sport but moreover a disgrace to the young men he represents. The TSSAA does its best to promote sportsmanship with pregame meetings and announcements to the fans to conduct themselves in a positive manner. I truly hope TSSAA takes notice of this disgusting display of disrespect and takes action to eliminate the possibility of this coach using this platform to promote malice in the future.

I was cooking burgers at the concession stand so I didnt have time to see the game. Huge crowd for our homecoming! However, heard threw the grapevine the coach said we was hitting them too hard! Wow! Hats off to our middle school coach Jamie Akins for putting a great product on the field. Undefeated and his kids play the game the way it should be played. Proud to say hes part of the class of 1996. Back in the days when we layed the wood the way football is supposed to be played!

Not a TSSAA problem. Whomever he answers directly to, (coach/Principal) and ultimately the Director of Schools needs to investigate. If I had a kid playing for this guy, someone would find out why this took place. It's not about a ballgame...it's about setting an example.

What was the final score?

I know what I would have done if the opposing coach did this!

    • Now that wouldn’t surprise me a bit. That has been going on heavily since the days of Larry Kerr @ AC. One of the major reasons CC has never really had much at all, barring about 2 seasons in football. AC milks it dry.
    • Interesting how quite it is. Rumors are going around that Anderson County is being looked at by TSSAA for recruiting violations with the Campbell County transfers.
    • I heard from a member of the teaching staff that there has been a dispute over use of the game field between football, and girls lacrosse team. Girls had a game and wanted to warm up and football coaches did want to leave. The football coaches came down hard with some bad vulgar language and the girls lacrosse backed down. What a classy act BHS athletics has become.
    • The lawsuit requests a jury trial. Sable Winfree has extremely competent legal representation. FYI - her lawyer represented the Warren County school system for years, and I believe he knows what constitutes a reasonable lawsuit.
