  1. Amen to Willie Fred. That ole fella will probably be buried in his Wildcat jersey. I don’t think I’ve ever seen him miss a football OR basketball game in my lifetime, and he has to be going on 90 some odd years old. A super fan if there ever was one. God bless him.

  2. I lived in Oak Ridge & UTK for my first 40 years of life then moved to Chattanooga to teach and share my life with my wife for the last 18 years. In Middle East Tennessee, Oak Ridge's Blankenship Field is by far number 1. victORry RWR! Farragut is sad because I have sat on their side with many Wildcats around me. If you can't defend you own side what good are you? Down here in the Chattanooga area, South Pitt and Marion County rule the roost. The rest of the Stadiums atmosphere is sleepy. However, Concession Stands, Band / Flag Corp./ Cheerleaders are soaring. Brainerd, Tyner and Howard are a joy to watch entertain the fans. Tyner has the best Fish Sandwiches. I eat two at the game and take one home to eat as I read CoachT and watch Channel 9 highlights. Didn't get a Fish Sandwich this season. Maybe next season. Oh, the best Chile Dog I have had at a stadium is Clinton in the mid 1990s. Bought two and ate them. Went back for two more but when I went back to the stands a dude has took my spot. Thankfully Willie Fred Pettus moved over and let me sit next to him. I played sports with his son and newly Inducted Oak Ridge Sports Hall of Famer Kim Pettus. If you ask me Willie Fred should be in the Hall of Fame himself. Heck, induct the entire Pettus Family.

  3. Another big win for McKenzie. Beat a very talented USJ team by 14. USJ is loaded with talent. Big win for McKenzie.

  4. At Cleveland he was always in that position at mid-field watching the other team warm up.

  7. This is what I was getting at when I made the post that went into great detail about how SP has been able to win the majority of the games against Marion County since 2006. The talent gap has not been that lopsided. Yes, SP has probably had a couple of more athletes than Marion more times than Marion has had the talent advantage. The fall from grace can happen quick. Also, hiring from within doesn't always equate to success. I feel like SP could promote from within with a couple of guys and still be a very successful team year in and year out due to the consistent stream of talent and being in 1A never hurts either when it comes to playoff time (before anybody says anything yes I know you don't have any control over it and you have had success against teams in higher classifications most of time). Having a solid youth and middle school program doesn't hurt either.

  8. I heard a liberal arts degree from Maryville college is the equivalent to a GED......

  9. I won’t get into specifics on here. Thanks

  10. This is a team put together by a college student. The real teams that are recognized by our state will be released later. The TNFCA and the TSWA are the ones that are put together by a panel of people rather than a single person.

  12. @Southtowner Every time you see Fayetteville play, they win. You must be like their good luck charm or something. You are welcome back to Cornersville, just not during region play because every time you have been to a Cornersville game, we have lost. Can't afford to lose any region games next season. Thanks for all you do on here! Congrats on a great season!

  13. Benny seemed to always coach from a squatted position! Even at Ooltewah during his last few years of coaching!

  14. I agree with you. Alcoa doesn’t even have to strain hard to win 3A.

  15. Its sure not a slam dunk that Summertown and Loretto will represent region 6. McKenzie played like a state tournament team against Gibson Co. The Bennett girl played outstanding. First time I've seen her play like I knew she could. Mckenzie has a good mixture of veterans and youth. The Davis kid is an outstanding freshman although she didnt have a very good offensive game against GC. McKenzie is good, how good is yet to be determined, but this old guy was impressed!

  17. I may do one on forgotten fields and stadiums if I can get my pictures all rounded up this weekend maybe. I think everyone would really enjoy that.

  18. I really enjoy going to Oak Ridge. Even for the kiddo's little league games. There's just something about Blankenship. Maryville is great and Heritage has that view. Clinton is my biased favorite but it really is a great place to watch a game, even if the product on the field isn't great.. All three of the schools in Anderson County have pretty nice stadiums to be honest.

  19. Any thing can happen especially if you apply the defensive pressure you did last night. I personally think you will be playing Loretto in the Region and Huntingdon against Summertown. I think Summertown and Clarkrange are the two best teams in the state and it is 50/50 on which team is the better team. Do think McKenzie can beat Loretto and get to Murfreesboro. Don’t know if it will happen but I think you have a shot. Told you guys this summer when you have a Wilkins coaching you will be much better. Thing I noticed about McKenzie that impressed me was they were very active in the forth quarter and was playing hard and getting after it. Same way with Huntingdon last year against Summertown in the Region. Wilkins’ are basketball people and they pay attention to detail and are going to get the best out of their players and there goal will be to win the state championship every year. Now if you have towns that are not basketball towns they may not like them because when you play for them they expect a lot of participation during the season and off season. Very good coaches if you have kids that are serious about basketball. Gibson County has that culture and loves it. Last night we had two freshman, a sophomore and two juniors on the floor the last five minutes of the forth quarter. We have beaten Greenfield, USJ, Dyersburg twice, Crockett County, Dresden, Bradford, TCA and a very good Creekwood Team with this team. We are very young and I think we are way ahead of where I expected them this early in the season. We will learn from last night and will get better. But McKenzie is a good team no doubt. Very skilled and athletic. Kinda reminded me of Creekwood shooting the three ball. Both teams can light it up.

  21. This. Don’t get me wrong, it’s definitely impressive, but I definitely didn’t get that same vibe I get when I go to Blankenship (biased, I know) or any other High School football facility that I like, such as Clinton, Maryville, and a few select others. I felt like I was @ an MTSU game almost. Like I said, impressive as far as the naked eye, but it wouldn’t even be in my top 5, nor 10 at that. Rhea County after going there this year has made an appearance in the top 5 for me as well. The Rhea Co folks are a hospitable bunch, on here and in person.

  22. Totally agree. All 3 great athletes and good young men! They represent their schools well and the UC!

  23. And that's the key. Your offspring actually followed a discipline that got he/she in to law school where he/she will have the ability to get a job in law, and a salary that will allow them to pay those loans back, if he/she had to take loans. You are fortunate. Your child is the exception. Way too many of the students the private liberal arts colleges are turning out aren't graduating with useful degrees and they are ending up in low paying jobs and having trouble paying those loans back. In Tennessee, the Tennessee Promise program basically funds the first 2 years of college at a Tennessee Community College for free. Unless one has a substantial scholarship to a private liberal arts college or gets grants that don't have to be re-payed, that's just a no brainer. The cost of liberal arts schools keep going up and up and the return on investment down the road is just not there.

  24. Nope. Just like every other private liberal arts college they bring in students with promises of grandeur and graduate them with degrees in a disciplines in which there are no jobs and six figures in student loan debt. That's how the game is played these days.
