  1. I understand and recognize that some member schools can allow 8th graders to participate as high schoolers. But the intent of this tournament is to shine a spotlight on freshmen and sophomores who can sometimes be overlooked as far as finding competition at their level. No disrespect to 8th graders who can compete on a high school level.

  4. I’m not saying I know what their lineup will be. But when they get to MS and see 5-6 kids around the same weight they may start to look else where so they can hit the HS line up earlier. There are like 20 MS weight classes only 14 weights in HS. Some kids will be left out.

  5. These people are just jealous of me because I can make predictions that come true. That is all this is about. It is ok though because I am the one that said who would win state championship. Cleveland Raiders are the state champions just like I predicted. I am Captain Guru and I approve this message.

  6. Don't take Coach T seriously, remember this is just a tiny amount of people who happen to care, too much, about outcomes and process within HS sports. Nobody walks around making the comments you read here to people in person. It doesn't happen. So this is the place where some come to vent about what they perceive as shortcomings surrounding the sport. With that said I've told actively involved parents with kids who happen to be elite wrestlers to stay off coach t, particularly if thin skinned. The perk of not having an elite wrestler? Nobody talks about your kid lol. Whatever the "best" path for your son and family is I do I hope you find it and I wish you all the best. From one dad to another... Edit: Something occurred to me that was funny with respect to my son. He was wrestling in a tournament and came up against Joe Sealey, well, you can imagine how that went, Joe was in full beast mode. The local paper wrote an article and absolutely scorched my boy, I mean just killed him (it was weird how hard they went on him), and never once mentioned the other kid was ranked first or second in the country at his weight class at that time. I of course showed the article to him. We got a nice laugh out of it.

  7. "He would have been tossed around by Hart. Lampert will manhandle him easily if he goes 138. Tenpenny had “coop” down 6-3." - FR615 I'll address these two comments since you want to go after my son, then its probably time to just log off of CoachT for awhile. This place is a cesspool. Did I ever say he would beat Hart? heck no. Lampert has already manhandled him. So what? The guy asked who our 38 lber was and you felt the need to crap on him. Why? Because you think Tenpenny should have won? You don't like me or McCallie? I never suggested Coop would beat anyone And us holding Cooper back was a family decision. Did his wrestling benefit, sure. But one of the main reasons and THE catalyst as to why we left Boyd and did a hold back year is because my youngest son is dying from a terminal illness called Alexanders Disease. They had a new clinical trial at Stanford and we were considering a move to Danville, CA. We literally pushed pause as a family because we didn't know what we were doing or where Grayson would be. Didn't know it at the time, but we were actually blessed that he didn't get in because he ended up in Atlanta later that winter. In fact, he's down there today not that you give a rats ####. But even if that weren't the case, he's still legal and well within the rules of TSSAA. He turns 19 his senior year. I could probably list 10 kids or more right now that will as well. Just off the top of my head I know 6 schools that all have kids that will turn 19 there senior year. For some reason though, you guys target McCallie because we have two I'm done. Waving the white flag. I was warned, didn't listen. CoachT...you win.

  8. 22 weight classes in TNAAU to be exact which IMO is WAY too much. That was one of the reasons I liked coaching the MS conference events that had around 12-14 weight classes more so than the Top 100/Region/State events back in the day.

  14. Thats always the million dollar question. Easy to say that this person should have been a finalist, but who are you leaving off to make room. For example, 2A has Lily Kee and Ally Weathers who are both deserving but are you leaving out Newman, Hart or Beatty? With only 3 finalists, really good players will get left out every year.

  18. Staring 5. G Sophomore G Junior F Junior F Senior C Sophomore The Dawgs aren’t going anywhere, and Pruitt, as sure as heck, isn’t either. Not to mention, the freshman and junior varsity teams won their championships. And the West Valley middle school basketball team, which is a pipeline of Bearden High School, won the middle school tournament, oh, and also did the West Valley girls, since you like the claim Underwood is a recruiter or whatever you like to come up with to bash the Bearden hoops coaches…

  19. I hope whatever rivalry Thursday does, they don’t have another game on Saturday at 12 o’clock coming from a Bearden fan wearing maroon in the stands on metal bleachers on a 93° day with zero wind. I probably lost about 5–10 pounds of sweat. I like the idea of it being on ABC whatever to grow Tennessee high school football, but it just can’t be at 12 o’clock again, and for whatever team gets it, I pray it’s a cloudy day for you.

  21. Cleveland Raiders will keep win state championships in wrestling. Cleveland Raiders have won 13 state championships. Many of these championships were won in a row. Cleveland Raiders definitely know how to wrestle and win state. Cleveland Raiders will be real good again next season. It will happen. I guarantee it. Watch and see. 23. That is assuming that when the new reclassification comes and AC moves up but OR doesn't. I think that both could move up to 5A and 6A respectively. If that does change I could see powell going back over to that region that they were in before they moved into West's region. Just speculation.

  24. That was Cummings that didn’t want to do that. He was still salty for not getting an interview a few years ago. They played real hard against the Rebs this year but just didn’t have the joes.

  25. Not even if the wrestler's HS is able to have 8th graders participate in TSSAA sanctioned sports due to the 8th grader "being enrolled" at said HS?

  26. "Their kids"?? I didn't know a school could own the rights to a child. I thought parents got an option to say where they wanted their kids to go.

  27. TSSAA did ALL the region schedules for teams before the 2023 season. The emphasis was on official crews being available for each week. Week 11 is the only week where NOBODY has an bye (most games to cover). So to accommodate, TSSAA scheduled games on Thursday and Friday. 5A-3A-1A played on Thursday (10/26) and 6A-4A-2A played on Friday (10/27) last season. It flipped for the upcoming season.

  28. I was motivated to write this when I read that John Sevier Middle School has some promising basketball players. My basketball journey started in the 9th grade when I lived in St. Petersburg FL. I attended a large high school (5000+ students) and was the first sophomore to start on the varsity. Tampa, Clearwater and St. Petersburg offered terrific athletic competition as there was an abundance of really good athletes. I learned early that if you didn't have the talent, fundamentals, conditioning and mental toughness to compete, you would get your rear-end handed to you. I thrived in that environment. I benefitted from great parents, great coaches, and a support network second to none. There have been very few high school athletes who have enjoyed more opportunities than I was presented with. Notice that I haven't said I was better than anyone. In high school I worked extremely hard every day to enhance my skills as a basketball player. Most days I got up at 5 AM and practiced many hours each day. It paid off, I was offered over 200 Division One scholarships. I made 57 straight foul shots in game competition. In 1963 I was on the Ed Sullivan Show as a first team Parade All American player. There were five of us, and Lew Alcindor was part of that group as a 15 year old sophomore from Power Memorial High School in New York City. I decided to attend UNC and became Dean Smith's first high school All American recruit. In high school the fans gave me a nickname, The Rifleman. I led the nation in scoring my junior and senior years. I shot 65% from the floor with everyone trying to stop me. If I had played with the 3-point shot in effect, I would have averaged over 50 points. You have to have confidence and believe in yourself if you are to become a really good shooter. It has to be achieved by hard work and learning how to execute the fundamentals the correct way. After serving in the military and doing social work with foster kids in New Hampshire, my first teaching/coaching position was at John Sevier Middle School. I was blessed and honored to have had the opportunity to coach so many high character young men for 15 years. When I coached at Sevier, my basketball teams won 96% of their games. We had three undefeated teams. I don't know of any basketball team in Tennessee that has won 96% of their games for 15 years. If a team has achieved this, they certainly developed a winning culture. My teams at Sevier lost to Johnson City only twice in 15 years. Those were the same players who won state championships under George Pitts. Who's your Daddy? I want to give credit to the coaches I learned from. I played for three Hall of Fame college coaches: Dean Smith, Larry Brown and Hugh Durham. Billy Cunningham and Dave Cowens were teammates of mine in college. I got to compete against Pat Riley, Louie Dampier, Jon McGlothlin, Tom and Dick Van Arsdale, JoJo White and many other really good players. I played against Duke five times, and we won each game. I played against Kentucky once, and we won by 15 points. My job was to guard Louie Dampier, and he didn't score a point. I did my job! I will close by saying John Sevier Middle School will always have a special place in my heart. Every player who played for me was a very special person. Thank you for providing me with so many great memories. I do hope that I made a difference in your life as a basketball player, and more importantly as a student/athlete and person. I wish the best for every young man and young lady playing basketball in this area. As Dave Cowens often said, "Show me what you've got!" Ian Morrison - Coach Mo

  29. Although I disagree with them, I've heard the same reason as to why the 3 Top 100's are located where they are (middle TN has Music City Brawl). Music City "Nationals" became just that in January of 2023. 4 weeks ago was only their 2nd event that was labeled "nationals". Before January 2023, it had been called the Music City Brawl since its inception. In the past, there have been Top 100 tournaments in middle TN during the now +- 15 years the Music City Brawl/Nationals has existed. In short, imo, if you're gonna give out medals to represent the 3 grand divisions of TN, then the 3 grand divisions of TN should be represented. Saying that and I know this contradicts the 3 grand divisions of TN, Memphis is my least favorite of the 3 for multiple reasons and the one that I think should at least rotate every other year to Mid-TN. Back to the topic at hand, I see no issue whatsoever why a HS (Cleveland in this case) shouldn't host these events if they are willing and able to run these tournaments efficiently.

  30. It’s not about the venue in Memphis. It’s Memphis period. It doesn’t add any new wrestlers to the tourney as well. So why travel all the way out there for the same kids? Until everyone stops going and their numbers plummet they will continue to give it to them.

  31. We aren’t going to drive across the state when it isn’t reciprocated. From what I hear the Memphis venue was nice, BUT where were all the Memphis folks in December in Gatlinburg?

  32. I agree 100% for Nashville. The Memphis top 100 needs to go away. Same kids from east Tn and Nashville area. Doesn’t add anymore wrestlers going to Memphis. Crime rate is not worth it out there. To many break ins and stolen vehicles. Will not be going back. Move it to Nashville instead

  33. Point 1 Valid Point 2 Yes, had players for sure Point 3 Time will tell but understand your concern. I will say this, Ensworth, BA, etc. would raid the roster every year. They have a bus that comes to RuCo to get the kids and take them to school. CJP has probably learned a thing or two about how that process works and can do the same thing. Your administration needs to be on board though. Point 4- My understanding is that Pierce was asked to be on Hartfield, Tygard, and Kriesky's staff as an Offensive coach but he turned down the offers because he liked having control of his own team and there would be a drop in pay. My advice is that wait and see how he does. I see the cause for concern but I think you'll be pleased with how things turn out

  34. The tourney is at Oakland and they beat Blackman last week so they could pull off an upset but I think Cookeville and Lebanon should be favorites. And nobody wants to finish second in this region and travel to the black hole of death in Bradley County for a win or go home game. So the Region final will be a war!

  35. Yes. I agree about football. But you'd have to say up until this year with coach Poore the varsity team has been good. It doesn't matter how good the coach is you're going to have a year here and there where the talent is a little thin. Sometimes you have a few that aren't committed and a few quitters here and there. And that's part of what's going on this year. It's left the team with only one senior and no real leader on the court. As for the freshman team, I could be wrong but I'm thinking you'd have to go back to the early 90's to find a team that was beating the opponents by the margins this team is. That was the team that had Jamichael Mills and Shane Karnes and went 35-2 as seniors.
