Ironman80
FBEmeritus - - Halls won't get 50 yards in the air. Trust me, if they have to throw more than 5 times the game will get UGLY!! I just hope MARYVILLE does't gain 150 yards against our OFFENSE (that's what happens when we throw).
mhs
Same 3 linebackers as last year. With the exception of the special package that was put in for Douglas, well until he was hurt. They are small. They are quick. And always seem to find the ball. LB's are just fine. As the safeties pick up experience this D will be just fine. People you are going to have to learn this is a different team. They are not going to avg 30-40 pts a game. The team will win and lose with Defense. Last time I checked as long as you score 1 more than the other team, you win. And scoring on this 1st team D is not going to be easy. Look for many close games, and most will have less than 20 points scored. Trust the coachs and the players to be ready each and every game. one last thing forget the scrimages, do you think Coach wants to tip hand? The seanson starts Friday with Halls. That is the most important game. After that game they can deal with Alcoa because then it will be the most important game. Good points and very good post. Scrimmages are so overrated in terms of exactly how a team is or isn't going to be and maybe moreso with Maryville than others. I can remember at the Oak Ridge scrimmage we had it on their ten, and Quarles wanted to work on other things so they flipped the field and started going the other way. Then all you hear including the knoxville paper the next day is how Oak Ridge whipped Maryville. This season is very similar to 2005 to me when Ryan Tallent was the ONLY starter returning on offense. And while we may not score 30-40 a game I think like the defense, the offense will also come around in time. It didn't take it long in 2005. Halls last year when they had healthy receivers averaged only 73.4 yards on 10 attempts with about 5 completions. It's just not their game. Kitts pretty much carried the offense. I agree with Ironman I can't see them getting themselves in a hole by losing yards to QB sacks and turning the ball over. I have to believe 90% run starting out until they get in the groove of every game. Anyway the running game looks that good this year. I love the enthusiasm. I hope Halls plays inspired football. It is the first home game. It is against a great team on an incredible streak. It will be a packed house. However, Emotion only lasts a couple of series at most. Eventually, Execution and Endurance play bigger roles. (That is a lot of "E's".) Halls has a tough up hill fight. cobrajet
just read the paper and it says that maryville qb aaron chamberlain is out for 3 weeks due to surgery. was he the starter going into the game or what? how will this affect maryville's offense? Aaron Chamberlain was named the expected starter for the Rebels as per the Daily Times. He does throw the ball well and is very accurate .Mark is very capable of running the team. /roflolk.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflolk:" border="0" alt="roflolk.gif" />
oldhick76
This is going to be fun to watch! I hope the grass is high and the field is soaking wet (storm or sprinkler system). A good ole' slipping and slidding slober knocking mud bowl. Advantage nobody! Hey, how early will the gates open? What kind of concessions are available? Go Rebs!! Pirateman894
I was told gates are opening at 5, and it will be SLAMMED! I was also told the game is "Standing Room Only". So if true, be prepared for that. On average, and on a reasonable average lol, how many people do u expect to be there?

volfan5
1500-2000 maryville alcoa game last year was liek close to 5000 All I know, there was more than 5000 at that game last year and the years before that. I would say close to 8 or 9000. As to Halls and Maryville it should be a great turn out. Several thousand will show up for this one. Maryville is vulnerable this year. There defense should be great but the offense might sputter early. I guess we will see on Friday. Maryville will find away to win in the end.
