This whole thing didn't surprise me one bit because it's stupid. I bet Alcoa or Fulton could possibly go all the way in 6A against those teams and prove enrollment doesn't mean a thing. This watered down crap for a cheap meaningless trophy so the T$$AA can line their pockets is for the birds. Greed will destroy high school football in Tennessee in the near future. There should be the small schools and the large schools and let that be that.

Fact! No way TSSAA lets Maryville move up. Even if some teams want to move down which I doubt will happen much. I do not see enough teams to drop down to allow Maryville to move up. Why give up automatic playoff spot? 

 

Well, middle TN.........Nashville area FINALLY found away around Maryville to the championship game. But, The REAL champions will in Blount County!

I really don't understand why Maryville or Alcoa fans even care about all this. Those teams are going to go deep into the playoffs every single years and win it all more often than not no matter what class and district they play in. So why does it really matter? Why does it bother ya'll so much that WB will be getting a first round play-in game? It reminds me of a 16 year old girl crying and screaming because her daddy got her the wrong color sportscar. Seriously... I don't give a crap what district or class my team plays in.. I just want to watch football.

Wow! This all sounds a lot like the college situation. The big boys in the big 5 colleges conferences are taking over and doing things to benefit themselves. And that's the way it should be---- like the golden rule says--Them that has the gold makes the rules! Big boy college football (better known now as the ESPN conference) will pretty much do whatever they want to from this point forward and there's not a darn thing that any of the smaller conferences can do about it. It will also most likely end any chance for the smaller schools to move up to a higher level.

I looked at their website and didn't see anything about it. You have heard a rumor because it's very doubtful that they would already be switching up teams the same day they passed the new class proposal.

My bad, It wasn't on their web-site but here is how it was explained to the media today.

 

Here's how it will work: The top 32 teams in the state, based off enrollment totals gathered this fall by the TSSAA, will comprise 6A. All 32 teams will automatically make the playoffs. The reason being: TSSAA's research showed that 85-90 percent of those projected 32 teams typically make the playoffs anyway.

 

Schools will have the chance to move up to Class 6A should they choose; however, teams near the bottom of the list of 32 must be willing to move down.

 

Teams opting to play up in 6A will be dealt with on a first-come, first-served basis. Maryville, the defending 6A champion, was thought to be a 5A school at the Board of Control meeting in June. The faster it can get its paperwork into the TSSAA this fall, the better its chances at playing in 6A next season.

 

Maryville football coach/athletic director George Quarles confirmed by text message Monday that Maryville will choose to return to 6A if initially classified as a 5A program for the 2015-16 seasons. Teams in other classification will also have a chance to play in a higher class. No changes will be made in the Division II system.

Who in the heck would be in region 1 1a, could create alot of long rides.

What this does is makes it impossible for traditionally good real 1A teams as GB,Coalfield and Cloudland to make any noise in the playoffs hard enough to compete now with 190 total HS kids with 27 to 30 on a roster.It would just about kill them.If they do this they should just go back to the three classifications!

Ok....here is where you are missing the boat. Maryville will be able to move up only if enough teams are WILLING to move down. "IF" a team moves down......THEN...and only then does the NEXT largest school get the opportunity to move up. A LOT of schools will need to move down before Maryville can move up. NOW...you tell me why any school would want to move down and give up an automatic playoff spot??? Not many if any. That's why the TSSAA set it up this way. To keep Maryville out of 6th plan and simple. Pure B.S.
