I respectfully disagree... most high school teams in TN have 1 or 2 top tier athletes at best.  Dynasty teams are not about star athletes.  You take 11 guys sold out and disciplined with some level of skill and strength and you can win most downs in a game.  Once you get above 2A winning becomes more about coaches, boosters, and community support.  Look who wins the gold balls - it is not a numbers game.  IMHO.

Nailed it

Probably so. The competition thing with numbers at the 6A level just gets me. Are these same schools complaining during basketball or baseball season when teams with much more skewed enrollments are forced to play because there are only 3 classes?  I can think of Liberty in Jackson has maybe 1100 kids at the most probably less. Well they have to get thru teams out of Memphis with over 2000 enrollment to win a state title in basketball. Is that fair. Of course not. But people don’t complain about cases like that. Only in football.

Football and basketball are completely different games. Individual players have much more of an impact in basketball. One really good player can make an otherwise bad basketball team a contender. Little rinky dink schools regularly knock off major D1 schools in college basketball, but the same cannot be said about college football. It takes more good players to compete in football.

Your logic with Liberty is flawed. Look at their records in all sports over the last couple of years and you will see they are certainly not competing.

Not flawed.  Until recently, they have been very competitive in football.  You cannot deny that.  I cannot speak of other sports other than football & basketball because I do not know and do not want to comment on which I do not know.  But Jackson is an area that has produced some very good athletic programs over the years, whether public or private.

Yes, taking the largest 32 public schools then dividing the rest is being discussed. I wouldn’t think it would happen as early as next year but who knows. If the TSSAA releases the enrollments turned in this school year, for any 20 percent changes, we could get a better look on how it could it go and whether it needs to return or not.

Here is the mid cycle enrollments.

Exactly... The Super 32 was a joke and it's the only way Farragut and Independence would've ever won a state title!  By being 6A schools playing in 5A. There's a reason why states have classifications!!

I see the MildCats are still upset after not being revelant in a decade or so. Hey, all the Admirlas can do is play the teams on the schedule. I don’t get why you are so upset that our enrollment fell dramatically, not like we were hiding kids in closets in attendance day. Knox County Schools is solely to blame for that, they under zone Hardin Valley, then realized they had a $50 million school that was half empty. So, they went and WAY  overzoned to the point that Farragut dropped into the 1500s for enrollment, which in turn overcrowded HVA. They has done a better job as of late, but there is still work to do on the zones in West Knoxville.

I may be wrong because this is just off the top of my head ... But if big numbers = Championships then why is there only one of these teams listed here above 2000 students that have won a Championship in the last 10 years ? White Station in 2009 ... and then there's Riverdale on here who won in the 90's ... ???

There really isn’t much competitive difference between having 1700 students and 2000 students. But when you get to talking about 1000 vs. 2000, or 100 vs. 400, it’s usually a different story.

Make a real division and place all the D2AAA teams with the top D1 6A teams in one division
