Here is a novel idea.  Tell the Band you do not NEED/WANT them at any football games.  Second tell them the football boosters are now doing and keeping the concessions money.

Rankin had that rule at R'dale.  The band came around, but the football boosters are still running the concessions and keeping that money for the FOOTBALL team!

The football team might gain some concession money but they would lose a tremendous amount of gate money from the band parents and supporters. Financially it would not be a good idea.

What if you replaced Alcoa, Greeneville and Oak Ridge with Elizabethton, David Crocket and Daniel Boone? All three Tri-Cities teams. DB would still be 4-6. The schedule is not the problem. The problem is coaching, top to bottom. I'll keep saying it, and proving it, until the cows come home.

Yes, coaching is the problem, but a softer schedule for a first year head coach would have been much easier.    Elizabethton could hang with DB most years but this is an anomaly year for Crockett and Boone.  Crockett is expected to win a playoff game for the first time EVER since 1971.    Boone has a chance to win a playoff game as well, although Boone has NEVER beaten a Knoxville time since 1971.      But, your point is well taken....  I have other DB friends who are very frustrated.       But now that Christian has a year under his belt you never know how next season will go.

Tri-Cities = Science Hill, Sullivan Central, South, Boone, Volunteer, Crockett, Tennessee High

There are more schools in the Tri but the above are the only ones DB has played in the last 10 years.

Greeneville is Tri-Cities blazer.  According to the US Census Bureau Tri-Cities consists of Carter County, Greene County, Hancock County, Hawkins County, Johnson County, Sullivan County, Unicoi County, Washington County with Two metropolitans in  Johnson City and Kingsport-Bristol.  I still don't think thats the Problem at DB.  It's a Culture problem and that starts with Administration and trickles down to Coaching and also letting the coach run his program the way he wants and also hire who he wants as coaches.  Before Greeneville Hired Coach McCurry and brought Ballard Back as his O Coordinator Greeneville was coming off off a 5-6, 5-5,4-6 Seasons missed the play-offs for 2 straight years and hadn't beat a team West of Morristown since 1994 (Excluding Anderson County in 2006).  The Administration  Hired McCurry and he made a lot of changes at Greeneville.  The Weight Room got a complete overhaul and workouts were Mandatory  if you expected to play or even have your name on the back of your jersey not like it use to be. We had a Football Weight Lifting period added for the last class of the day and Devil camp was started for two a days and all these traditions still stand back from 2007.  Thats 2007 season the Devils went 10-3 and made it to the Quarter finals for the 5th time in school history.  Each year after that the Devils kept going farther and farther in the play offs because of that Culture Change.  Greenevilles Current Staff have many of the same people that were on the 2007 team (Ballard, Spradlen (D Coordinator and DB Coach), Bentley (O-line Coach, Hammonds (D-line Coach).  DB needs a Culture change

LOL! Don't think you're going to come on the T and tell the "Mighty Good Ole Boys" at DB how to run a successful program. Dude this is Kingsport Dobyns-Bennett, home of the Eastman! Have you not seen our stadium? Our field house? Our BAND? Heck we've got the winningest football program in the state of Tennessee.....used to anyway.

Unless the band parents are generating $50,000. or MORE a year, then you are better off with the concessions.

Concessions during the Rankin era brought in enough to pay for the entire 15+ coaching staffs equipment and trips.  Also paid for tour type busses everywhere.  R'dale used to never ride school busses.

You would be real interested to see just how bad they WANT to perform after you tell them they are NOT needed.  Band plays, the parents will still show up.

If DB ever gets a home playoff game or two. They would exceed that $50000 mark on ticket sales to people there to see the band.

You are not getting it.  By taking over the concessions the FOOTBALL team will get BOTH as the Band WILL ask to be able to play, and thusly the band parents WILL show up.

Only down side is the band will have to find themselves a new source of REVENUE.

BTW the $50,000 is a LOW estimate.  I have seen R'dale generate in excess of $250,000 in one season.  Now you know why we had the big investigation of various teams here a couple of years ago as to where funds were going.  IE., Blackman............

BTW are YOU the Band Director?  I ask as I know no one there.

One of the biggest differences in the sports is that there is no field prep/maintenance in basketball.   Our baseball is successful and play 30 games in the regular season as well. All of the teams dedicate A LOT of time in preparing for their next opponent.
    • Im pretty excited about the new rules that NFHS voted to adopt. Does anyone know if this will take place in Tennessee starting this year? I think I heard/read somewhere that the TSSAA bi-laws say they have to mirror what the NFHS does, and when the NFHS offered the current weight classes as options, TSSAA didn’t adopt them until NFHS made them official. Did NFHS make these changes official starting next season or will it be similar to the weight classes where TSSAA doesn’t change what they are doing until it is  an officially official part of the NFHS rule book? It’ll be interesting to see if it is rolled out for the new TSSAA Middle School season and I saw a post where the youth wrestling in TN was going to vote on adopting it as well.  I’ll pray for all the youth coaches that will have to shoulder the confusion from all those crazy #### parents who already think they know the rules more than everyone else  . Imagine the first time their kid is taken down and a 3 goes up on the scoreboard or their kid gets pinned with only one point of contact in the cylinder. Their heads might explode. i kid, I kid. Sort of. I’m surprised ride time was brought down with all the other changes. I know some argue that it promotes stalling on top, but its been an official scoring method in college forever, so I figure it must be doing something right. Do any of you think that’ll ever be implemented?
