I agree it was an impressive win over UC score wise if you go off of UC tradition. But tradition has nothing to do with this year. People on this side of the state that have seen them know what UC brings to the table at the moment. However I have no doubt that their coaching staff is going to have them improving every week and they will be a better team by the end of the year barring injuries. They don’t have much depth.

This definitely isn’t the same UC team from the past decade but they still are gonna be a playoff team at the end of the year. They still put up 300 yards on the ground but they couldn’t finish their drives when the defense locked down. The win is definitely impressive, but not as much as most think. I think a big win over westview or Ripley this year would be more impressive, just going off the LC schedule.

You’re right, I haven’t seen them. So would you consider them a bad team right now? Again, it’s just hard to believe. I didn’t think they ever dropped that much.

Union City will win 6 or 7 games...a significant drop off! Still will go 2-3 rounds in the playoffs...hard to beat that system

That depends on what the standard for “bad” is. I believe 6-6 is about right. That is “bad” compared to a normal UC team. If Lake Co really is a top 2-3 team in single A they should mercy rule a 6-6 caliber team.

We've scrimmaged Covington and Jackson Northside, beat a good Mcnairy team 21-6 in the jamboree. We've been tested pretty good already. Glad to see yall finally playing a good schedule. Bout time

Scrimmages and Jamborees mean very little. West Carroll beat Wayne County in a Jamboree. Same year they housed us in the Semis

I'd like to thank the Academy for our nomination into this elite club, however, we'd prefer not to have that target on our backs and quietly take out our opponents one by one.  "Work in Progress" can be our catchphrase.  Time will tell as we move through a tough schedule full of top ten honorable mentions:  Mt. Pleasant, Cornersville, Moore Co., Whitwell,  & Gordonsville,

Congrats on the big win last week Varo.

  • Thanks 1

    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
    • I would not put too much stock into the UH over Eagleville. From what I understand they were pretty banged up in that tourney. Catcher was out, they were throwing pretty deep in their bullpen and a few key players were beat up in their infield. Sounds like they are pretty healthy heading into the district tournament. Look at their schedule, they played some really good teams.
