The gap is much closer in the big classes but our small classes are much better. A great 1A game would be Lake Co vs Hayti. Hayti is a very good small school in MO and they are only about 30 mins apart. Hayti makes consistent deep playoff runs and has put kids in the nfl. Malden is where the guys I know kids have played, and vouched that the competition there isn’t that good until you get later in the playoffs in 2A. MO is considered really a state that is high on there baseball and basketball.

BPM, Lake County played Hayti twice in 2009 and 10 I believe. I could be wrong on the years. LC won at Hayti 23 to 6 and I believe 44 to 18. Coach Bert Snow was head coach the year we won 23 to 6 and David Barger his 2nd go around was the other win. Fulton County is improving in Kentucky. I know their new coaching staff are turning that program around. Edited December 16, 2019 by lakecounty1968

Trouserhoser County beat Hazel Green in the regular season. Courtland went to win the Alabama 1a title and Hazel Green the 2a Alabama title. SP beat TC in the semi finals on the way to the TN 1a title. Even more interesting factoid: Hazel Green has never won a state championship. And the last time HG was 2A was 1963...currently they are 6A. So theres that. And that was a 9-6 Courtland state title team. Not their best

In 99 TC won over Hazelwood 38-32.

Caruthersville was usually the best team in that class and would get to the qrts or semis only to get destroyed. Many 2A teams in West TN are traditionally better. I think one of the big reasons they lag behind tn is that MO doesn’t allow teams to have spring practice. Really hurts especially your small schools when you need to get your 8th graders up and working with the high schoolers.
CaptainLongbeard
I watched those Georgia state games this past weekend. Those teams were to say the least a little more talented than Tennessee teams.

Courtland had the losses because of their competition. They were still the 1a state champs in Bama as was Hazelwood in 2a. I was going from memory rather than googling it. You should have picked up on Hazelwood being a perennial 2a power back then if you know half as much as you think you do. Just because your not allowed within so many hundreds of yards of a school doesn’t mean you have to be jealous.
