Best High School Rivalry

Rule. They were a dirty football team. Their fans were awful. They threw stuff on us all the time when we went under their stands. Coffee, cokes, liquor would be poured on us. They spit on us too. Plus! Maryville and Rule were always the 2 best teams in the district. Back then if you didn't win your district you didn't go to the playoffs. It was always for the district championship.

RR: when did you play at MHS? I agree, playing at Rule was a nightmare, you would come out of the locker room, up the tunnel and it was like you had garbage cans being dumped on you. It was the only road game that Coach Story made us put our helmets on before leaving the locker room. I miss the old region, eventhough MHS has been doing quite well for itself.

the best rivalry ever is    hendersonville vs. beech.    look back at all of the games. no matter what the team's season is they will always play their best game of the season in this game.  the best game enough said

lol, cant say much for my junior and senior year....Both games were blowouts, haha. Now, last year was a good game, no doubt. I still think HHS vs Gallatin is a bigger one then vs Beech. Yes, theyve been around for about 20 yrs, but Gallatin has been around longer. When both these teams go at it.....its somethin to see.

when I played from 96-98, Sevier Co was our biggest rivalry. I hated them and they hated us. We killed them in 96 when Matthews threw more INT than completions. 97, we beat them for the region and then they thrashed us in the playoffs. Killed them my senior year 41-0 and then in 2000 we were ranked 1-2 and it was a great game in which we won. They have slipped, but it was the only team that I played that I absolutely hated other than South, Johnson City, Bristol, and Jeff CO. Of course I hated everyone I played against, but the Purple Punks were the worst. OR-DB is the 2 most important games every year in East TN 5-A. OR never had any real punks or cheap shot guys on their teams. The guy I had the most fun competing with was Billy Shipley. The guy was a class act. I hope everything has worked out for him. Any info from OR fans would be cool.

While the rivalry has kind of been put on the shelf for a while so MBA and BA can duke it out in DII-AAA, the MBA-Father Ryan rivalry has been around since the early 1900's(I think- Rollredroll probably knows if this is true or not). Years ago it was a huge deal and I think every year Father Ryan students would paint the MBA cannons purple. I guess now the MBA-Ryan rivalry has shifted from football to wrestling(ie. last year's dual match at Father Ryan).

McMinn and Bradley Central used to be a pretty big rivalry in football a few years ago...but the rivalry has simmered down a bit since Bradley has been so bad lately.

True. Whoever said that about Meigs and Brentwood needs to be given an award for the biggest idiot on coacht.

    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
    • An FYI: To see how an opponent has done against another opponent since 2001- go to the game by clicking on one of the teams. Click the G beside the game. For example, Milan: The info will show you the previous matchups and other info.
    • All these college signees went yo other schools for 3 years, were getting college offers then transferred to Bearden. It’s not like this staff did much to develop them.    The BBall coaches son and the Seymour transfer were some of the most talented QBs in the region, and you guys developed them into QBs who might complete one pass a game.
