  1. I have been and my family has been a loyal supporter of the Pirates for many year's and I will speak for football bc that is where the money is and most fan's. I'm sure other's from different school's may be in the same situation as we are at SP. Just take time and look around at the crowd and most of the people you will find are in there 30's and up. If it's left up to the younger generation will alot of school's be looking at less and less attendance? I know at SP the older generation out number's the new generation by alot. I guess I just have so much love for my school and always want to back it and the Alma Mater meant and still means so much to me and as well as the Do right Rule of yall that know what i am talking about. I'm just glad I was able to live and go to school when it really meant something. I know there's alot of young kid's that care, but not as much as the older one's do. I guess why I am saying this, is bc it saddens me to see an old friend or alumni that pass away and the love they had for the school and now that empty seat is a sad thing to see and I don't see the young one's filling them up. Hope all have a great day and hope maybe we can instill some of our values in this young generation.

  3. Benefits: 1. Opportunity for all kids of all levels to stay exposed to wrestling in the off season to continue to learn and grow at their own pace. 2. Short travel for large room (lord knows we've heard enough about the bradley/Chatt rooms) 3. Fairview may have 3 kids want to do work intermittently through the "off season" to supplement their national/FS/Greco competition schedule. At fight nights they have several like minded kids in the room with them when they want to show up to do extra work, whereas if they didn't have fight nights, two kids would have to get a coach to let them in the gym to get in some work. 4. Stay in shape 5. Learn from other kids and coaches 6. Stay connected to big school and D2 kids that they competed against for years in AAU Disadvantages: While I'm at it, let me go ahead and thank these coaches and programs for their commitment to raising the level of competition across the board in middle tn and opening their doors to kids from our program and others. Some wise man once said, "It's just small school, who cares?" Well we do at Fairview and apparently so do several coaches who afford us an opportunity to grow with them despite our school division status.

  4. 106- Nick Corday D2- The most dominant 106 this year. One sided matches with Ethan Wilson and Caleb Urochuck 113- Jackson Bond D2- I believe him and boarders would be competitive. Bond wrestled a higher level of competition with Baylor's schedule this year. I see him getting a close win over boarders. 120- Daniel Urochuck A-AA- All three champs this year are hammers. I give the nod to the oldest of the 3 here, but that would be a very competitive round robin. 126- Trae McDaniel AAA- Trae and Emory would be an interesting match, gotta give the edge to Trae because of his national success. If Trae and Emory were not such hammers, I would be tempted to put Robin Yunis here. 132- Noah Horst D2- 4 time champ, senior, strong favorite. 138- Garrison Dendy D2- Dendy won a close one last time he wrestled Isbell. IMO it would not be as close this year. Dendy one of the best wrestlers in TN. 145- Kodiak Cannedy A-AA- Cannedy has a close win over Hurst this season. I give him a slight edge over Anthony. I would like to see that match though. 152- Garret Bowers D2- Mason smith is tough, but have to go with Bowers here. 160- Alex Whitworth D2- 4 time champ, dominant finals performance against a tough freshman. 170- Gavin Kagle D2 Tough 2x Champ 182- Connor Duffy D2- I would love to see him and Brooks, but gotta give the edge to Duffy. (two losses this year, both to top 10 guys in the country. 195- David Harper D2- Harper beat Peterson (twice) who beat Feldhacker this year. 220- Al Wooten D2- Would love to see Davis vs Wooten. Wooten is a huge/strong senior. 285- Skylar Coffee AAA- IMO Coffee has too much horse power for the younger stud Howard.

  14. Why are we bashing this tourney for kids to get mat time? We all get upset there isn’t enough people working with kids, and when coaches are trying to keep kids involved, we get upset it’s not the right style. If someone wants to create freestyle or greco tournaments and put it on here, feel free. It’s a public board and I will root for you to have a lot of interest, but if not, let the coaches help the kids however they so choose. I believe PF finished very high in duals and individual, but could be wrong

  16. Ladies & Gents: wrestling/training centers do cost money and it's nothing more than "Travel Wrestling" much like travel baseball or AAU Basketball. Someone must pay for the gym, elite high level instruction, utilities, entry fees, travel cost to elite tournaments, etc... I am just not convinced that the majority of wrestling families are willing/able to pay $5000.00 ($800.00-$1200.00 per month) for instruction not counting the cost of travel & uniforms for 3-5 months of wrestling. It's not free and someone has to pay the bills. I am fully aware that some areas of the state have a "SUGAR DADDY" that is not only able but willing to give back to the sport but unfortunately that is not the case for most areas.

  18. Well, it is tournament basketball so everyone obviously has a chance to win. Personally I just felt sycamore matched up with Hume Fog better than Maplewood. I agree sycamore is the most prepared team as they played a couple region games so they know what to expect. Maplewood is just IMO much better defensively in the post than Hume Fog. I agree hosting Maplewood gives them a better chance, I just think the matchup is better against Hume Fog. If sycamore controls the pace and makes Maplewood play Sycamore basketball, then they will have very good chance to win. That can be tough against the athleticism, willingness to press and pressure both full and half court that Maplewood can present.

  19. Stone has played EH once this season already. We beat them by 24 and it really wasn't that close; our bench played most of the fourth quarter. Having said that, post season is a different animal, and I agree no team should be overlooked ever. That game was also at Stone and not at EH. One game at a time.

  21. IMO there is no comparison at this time. This was the first time in coach smith career that he made it to the semis. Hookfin has been multiple times with different teams, and a state championship game. Im sure coach smith will probally make a few more runs. Until smith can make it to the title game, no comparison. As far as the recruiting goes im not certain. i know Hookfin had a great relationship with the coaches at Memphis, that are now at FSU. Smith also walked into a solid program with players that were well coached before his arrival. I wish both coaches the best. Give credit where credit is do. Do

  22. She scored almost all of her points with Mayo on the bench. She flat out shut Madison down. Walker couldn't miss a basket. The PG was getting the ball to the 2 inside bigs. An almost perfect game by all. Probably their best game yet. Congrats on a well deserved win. Great team effort girls.

  23. At Beech we are starting a heavy lifting program 3 days a week. One day a week we will add Technique/drill sessions to the end of the lift. Thursday will be live goes to work on that technique in a live setting... also “fight night” gets mat time for the young guys. It gives a way for someone to add 5-7 matches to work on a technique. I will say this, we have had kids wrestle freestyle matches and or folk style matches at fight night... it is up to the kids.

  24. I don’t see middle TN as being held back. I see middle TN as an area to learn from. Our abundance of really good wrestlers are spread out between a large number of different teams. But if y’all want to give some advice on getting a majority of those kids on the same team then we’re all ears. Lol But there is some misinformation if you think that fight nights are the only thing going on up here after the regular season. Fight nights are just one small part.

  25. Fight Nights have helped the middle TN area get much better. I say “area” because it is helping everyone and not just the elite, well funded individual programs. The better wrestlers in middle TN are spread out among a large number of teams rather than concentrated in a few teams like some other areas. I’ve only been back in TN for 12 years and I’ve seen a huge shift in the number and quality of State medals collected by middle TN. I do credit Fight Nights for part of that trend.

  26. The topic is who is Mr..AAA in Tennessee, hands down Jacobi Woods should win this. The High School Coach of year in Tennessee should go to Reggie Tucker. No other coach has taking over a Program and lead their team to a undefeated season including Anfernee Hardaway at Memphis East when he got their. Jacobi Woods should also win the Gatorade Player of the Year in Tennessee. He averaging over 29 points a game for a team that is 30-0, just like the Memphis East and Cordova player did the last two years.

  27. I’ve had a lot of interest of hosting a High School only camp. With a lot of camps for high school kids being so expensive, I’m confident I can offer your team a camp at a MUCH cheaper cost. If you are wanting to send your team/kids to a camp for 4-5 days, all meals and housing including, for $200(wrestler) or less, please contact me. We will accommodate cost to assure you can send ALL your kids. We have a proven and effective system at Cleveland, and take pride in all our wrestlers learning how to compete at a high level. Coaches can come for free. Josh Bosken joshuabosken@yahoo.com Higher Calling wrestling Club Cleveland High School

  28. I was going to post that I thought that the 2011 Baylor team was the best of the teams that I am aware of. 2010 is about as far back as I go but I remember how dominating the 2010 and 2011 Baylor teams were and I thought they might Have better than the Ryan 2015 and 2016 teams but I didn’t have the numbers verify that. It is still darn impressive that those 2 Ryan teams had 7 champs, but I didn’t realize how incredible the 2011 Baylor team was. And then when you add in 2008 and 2009 Baylor and Ryan teams it shows that while this years Baylor team was really good and dominate this year, historically their has been multiple other teams that were actually more dominate. And, while it’s not D2 no team will ever be as dominating as the Red Bank teams of the early 60’s were.

  30. IMO coaching wrestling is a 3 pronged approach 1) Technique - which obviously is first demonstrated and taught but is improved through drilling and repetition. 2) Live wrestling - Which can't be replicated. Teaches what works in the real world and how to "win" 3) Strength and conditioning During the season live wrestling takes place in 2 ways 1) Match competition which is prescheduled 2) In practice with the same partners over and over again The "fight nights" allows wrestlers to get DIFFERENT competition besides what they see everyday in their own room. It also allows kids to wrestle as much as they want. Get tired - rest. The chances of getting injured drilling are just as high when live wrestling (at least that's been my lifetime experience). Many camps are nothing but technique. Many camps are nothing but live wrestling. Many are both. There is no right or wrong. But I do think most coaches would find it odd (unless being invited to teach at a camp) teaching technique to someone else's wrestlers - hence fight night.

  31. What were you expecting? New coach, not sure if your bets player from last year was going to play until right before the season, young role players, battling discipline.

  32. Pretty sure it was a whole lot more than that! Many rumors about several different issues! I would edit your post and leave the personal stuff/wife out of the public domain...that’s the right thing to do.

  33. I feel like this is a great metaphor for football in Blount County. Its a thread about a possibly new county football program, and Maryville and Alcoa step in and make it all about them.

  34. Ok let’s think about something. The basis of “no evidence” against Powell was on “he said he said” correct? So basically what that means to me is the only word they had to go off of was the players saying that Coach X came up and tried to get me to transfer to Powell. But let’s think about that for a second, based on that the only person making any claims was the player, no coaches no parents, etc. because then there would be multiple people all saying the same thing vs a coach denying he said anything. So what their saying is the ONLY person(s) making a claim was the players. Now tell me, what HS kid is gonna go to Tssaa and try to turn in a school? Lol, exactly, so there had to be coaches also backing up the claims along with the players testimony’s. To me, and maybe I’m wrong, but when you’ve got multiple people saying the same thing vs one person saying it didn’t happen, sounds like the multiple peoples claim holds more water than the latter. I believe there was enough evidence for something to be done but due to the timing of the matter it was overlooked. Just my opinion.
