stacmot
Earlier this year five Haywood players were named to the TSWA 4A All-State Football Team. Twelve Tomcat football players signed scholarships yesterday. The scholarships totaled $1.5 million dollars. That’s pretty good for a rural West Tennessee football program! Actually, I think it’s pretty good for any football program! Haywood’s coaching staff does a great job of motivating players, helping them stay on track, gain recognition for their talent, and earn the opportunity to further their education. They do a great job of winning football games too! With all the rumors I’m hearing, will Coach Smith stay or leave? I know the Tomcats will return a number of backs including an all-state quarterback and an all-state running back. How are the offensive line, defensive line, and defensive secondary shaping up? Haywood County’s new SOS is going to have a tough job restoring discipline, improving academics, regaining community support, as well as preparing for the changes that will take place with the arrival of Blue Oval City. All of that is of the utmost importance, but will she support athletics as well? Will the Haywood County Commission and the Board of Education approve the money to build a much-needed athletic training facility? Will Haywood be able to find a 10th game to fill their schedule? How strong will region foes Crockett Co., Obion Central, Dyer Co., and Fayette-Ware be? I know how strong non-region foes Oakland and Hardin Co. will be! With South Gibson moving to Region 6-4A, what will we do without @ManOfMillionsto beat up on? I'm just kidding with you MOM. Last question...Tomcat fans (and non-Tomcat fans too), what are your thoughts concerning the 2023 season?
ManOfMillions
@stacmot I will be around my man. I always look forward to the Haywood threads because there are several Tomcat poster that share different thoughts and opinions. My opinion about the coach leaving is tough 1 for me. I will reserve my beliefs on it till something is announced. However, if Smith leaves. Haywood better hire a great coach in a hurry or they will find out really quick just how spoiled they have been over the past 4-5 years. As for me, I am doing great! I do not have any purple teams in the region to deal with and that is a fine, fine thing! The local buffet will being doing better now that @BIGPURPLEMACHINE will not be in town! Ain’t no buffets in that sissy little town. Closest thing y’all got is the AYCE catfish dinner on Fridays at Rhodes Family Diner. I run the clock on it regularly. speaking of fish… seems like someone owes me a fish dinner from a bet… hmmm… wonder who that could be? Lol.

I would say why he would wanna leave that such a goldmine but after readying a few different post I can understand. The city needs to be ashamed of its self and the town needs to hold them accountable. I don’t wanna hear nothing about it’s more important things going on in that town besides the kids. The kids are the future and thier doing positive things with the program and kids.

Last question...Tomcat fans (and non-Tomcat fans too), what are your thoughts concerning the 2023 season? It goes deeper than a bunch of "jocks" caring more about athletics than academics and old guys trying to re live their glory days through high school players stacmot, yet that's the opinion of a lot of the uneducated general public will adopt when you start the discussion about paying/supporting coaches and spending to upgrade facilities. The truth is that the same qualities that separate an average coach from a great one also make a great educator...not to mention the opportunity for those 12 young men to further their education while living out their dream of playing football. Odds are (as good as they are) that in a few years football will be behind those kids, yet they will carry the benefits of the education that they receive for their lifetimes. When more people understand how beneficial athletic programs really are and the positive influence that kids who participate experience, maybe it will get easier to justify the dollar amount that it takes to run a strong program.
ItsAlwaysSunnyInAtwood
Idk most years I could understand Smith wanting to possibly leave for USJ but the next 2 years are going to be very rough for them regardless of who's coach. The paycheck will be nice but most coaches like keeping their record as much on the plus side as possible.

That said, there are rumors that he is looking to leave Haywood. I cannot attest to the truth of those rumors. Maybe someone else can. I have first hand knowledge that the news director there does not report anything that has not been confirmed. He is a really good guy and does quality work. I think this was just a goof and they published an article shortly after apologizing for reporting false info.

TryNotToSuck
Praying for all the people in Haywood tonight. It's sad to see someone's life come to end carelessly for something that appears to be stupid. 2
