  3. Kinda like ESPN does for college football and basketball in the off season, I thought it might be cool to do the same to start some chatter! Let me know what you think! Way too early top 5 Pigeon Forge—7 returning medalists (including Noah Dyer who placed 4th at 126 in 2020). The reigning state team champs return 3 state champs (Andy Cable [120], Josh Parton [132 in 2020], and Garrett Foreman [152]) and another finalist, Caleb Wolfe (220). It’s gonna be tough for anyone to stop this dynasty Coach Foreman has going. Greeneville—7 returning medalists led by Mr. Hunter Mason who is ranked in the top 15 in the country right now. Stud Kodiak Cannedy returns as the defending champ at 160, and Leandre Dabney Jr. is back as a state finalist. Leandre will be a favorite to win it if he avoids the Uhorchuck kids. He showed in the finals he has what it takes to pull an upset on one of those kids though. 170 appears wide open so watch out for Morgan Lowery too who took 3rd last year. Fairview—they don’t return a champ, but return an incredibly solid lineup with 7 medalists back including 3 finalists (Malachi Bennett [160], Kendrick Curtis [182], Jacob Clevenger [285]). Watch out for these guys. They know how to win as they proved that taking home the duals title last year. Signal Mountain—the guys lose a lot and only return 3 placers, but they still have 2 Uhorchuck kids back and they get another one coming up this year who is supposed to be a stud. A Chatt friend told me they are also getting the Baylor kid Houston Clements as their new coach who really turned the Whitwell program around this year. I bet they’ll be a contender again in a few years. Sycamore—4 returning placers including the defending champ at 132 Logan Heckert and Luke London who got 2nd at 138. If London isn’t in Mason’s weight class again, he’ll have a great chance to win it. Others to watch Gibbs—return 3 medalists including 2 finalists (Finstad at 106, Reep at 120). I was impressed watching this program at states this year. Soddy Daisy, Tullahoma, and East Hamilton Chattanooga—all coming down a division. Ulric Winesberg looks to have Soddy trending in the right direction. And I keep hearing that East Hamilton has some good young stud. Do you Chatt folks have any info on these guys? Don’t know much about them. Whitwell—4 returning medalists but losing their coach Hixson—only one returning medalist but I feel like these guys always reload and have a good team.

  4. Very good coach, probably coach the best I have seen in this area in a long time. He makes up for for the lack of talent with his knowledge for the game and his experience.

  5. Kids are kids the adults need to shut up, sit down and relax and just enjoy the game they used to play and still love

  6. Most definitely agree. Great coach who loves the game of basketball.

  7. If they don’t hire Jonesy they are a complete moron and should be flogged and neutered. This should be an easy decision.

  8. Amen. How many players finished at MAHS that started sept/Oct there? Memphis is an aau hotbed and they’ve turned TSSAA into the same. Anybody plays anywhere they want to/paid to.

  9. Great job SweetScience for sticking up for Coach Green. Nicely debated on your part! Proud you are an Oak Ridge super fan! RWR!

  10. Not even close to the same official. This official wanted the game to be about him instead of the kids. He called more technicals (3) than he did fouls through 3 quarters. He was horrible. The foul called at Pickett was by a young ref that seemed overwhelmed by the situation. Monterey should’ve been hit with an intentional and that’s it. He should’ve got to keep playing. That was inexperience not ego like at the state.

  12. That game was like two sacrificial lambs deciding who got to go to the slaughter. The winner had Trousdale the following week.

  14. Im not falling for that mess...I don't think BPM would hit you Roy, but if he does I guarantee you it will be to hard for you to try to slip him some medicine after. If you seen him you would no that I ain't joking.

  16. He wasn't at JCM, and didn't do football...if he was, and was as good at that as what he does, their record would look like Alcoa's. you think im lying, but im not.

  21. His best chance was Tee Higgins senior year but Memphis East was just too much. Greene is a great coach. Don’t know if I’d take anyone over him.

  22. Now you know how homegrown rural football teams feel when the TSSAA turns their heads with the Maryvilles, Alcoa’s and Greenbacks.

  24. We played them in the Region Finals last year and we had a player that got hurt at state in 2019 and she hurt her knee in 2020 that both teams agreed to let her start and we swapped buckets to start the game. Greenfield made the last bucket so we started game in a press and got behind 10 the first 3 minutes of the game. We cut it to 6 late in the 3rd but was back to 10 after 3. They went into a 4 corner to start the forth and they won by 18 but we played them head up for 3 quarters. Loretto was also a problem matchup for them because Karly and the tall Loretto girls could throw over the top of that press like they did in 2019 and the game in 2020. They were a great team no doubt but I am not certain they win the Gold Ball in 2020. Vegas favorites yes, but not a guarantee. Macon County and Greenfield would have been a great matchup I agree. Macon was loaded too and were really good this year. Larry White utilized his talent to perfection and was super fundamental. They worked the ball as crisp and fast as any team I seen up there this year. The five he had in the lineup were full of energy late in games as well.

  26. FYI: Westmoreland was a top 10 team that year but had to go through Nashville officials to advance and have to be favorites in the new AA especially in that new district. Macon had several key players injured that game (3rd of the season BTW) and proceeded to rout everyone else. You don’t go through 8AA undefeated and not be very very good. Even the close game at Upperman that Macon won by 7 was not really that close Macon lead by 20 something most of that game. Upperman was the #2 team in AA last year and lost to Westmoreland and 4 times to Macon. The reason some people think Macon was better than Greenfield was depth. 3 starters on this year’s team rarely played last year (1 had quit basketball, 1 was a transfer that took a while to get used to the style of play, and the other was the little sister of a starter that didn’t see much time). That depth was a weapon that White used. Macon relentlessly pressed all night without concern of tiring players or foul issues. Plus it allowed Gregory a lot of open shots. Most of her 3’s this season were very long range (25 ft plus) because teams wouldn’t allow her any opportunity to shoot within the 20 ft range. With Keely Carter teams had to give her open space to operate or just let Carter light them up. Would Greenfield have been able to handle that for an entire game? Like I said it would have been a fun game to watch.

  27. I hope everyone has been unceasingly praying for us (Oak Ridge) this morning. We’re gonna need all the prayers we can get before facing the traveling All Stars from Houston.

  28. BPM was a "coach" there for a long time Roy, and was very successful. I tried real hard to get him to come to my school and help our kids because he's real good at what he does...you may think im joking, but im dead serious...I'd take him any day.

  30. One team shot 23 3’s. One team shot 9 (one at the buzzer at the end from halfcourt). That’s why there was a free throw discrepancy. The team attacking the basket obviously will get fouled more

  31. Iron sharpening iron does not grow wrestling. Otherwise, Chattanooga would have way more participants than they do. Chattanooga has fantastic wrestlers, but their numbers are not really growing at all. Growing wrestling MUST be a focus. As a percentage of the population, TN has far fewer schools with wrestling than GA or PA. (PA and GA are actually on par with one another) If we want to get better, more schools need to start wrestling programs. Why work hard to start a program if your kids are never going to make it to state?

  32. So there are a lot of things to take into consideration. I for one have sat through practices, scrimmages, been part of the booster club, and been to all but 3 games in the last 10 years. That said I watched attitudes, behavior and sportsmanship drop year over year for the last 3. I like and know everyone of these coaches, but as" capable" coaches where was the leadership that was lacking from the program. It is not the head coach's sole responsibility to hold the player accountable, demand respect and or drive each player to his best . That falls on every single coach on staff. I say that, to say, that leaving or being asked to leave, doesn't really matter. Being a coach is not a volunteer position, it is a job. If I don't perform my job to my bosses standards or expectations , I can expect i will get to do one of those things. I watched players walk off the sidelines last year and go talk to family in the bleachers. I watched kids throw fits and slam doors and quit, only to be playing again the following week. That wasn't a Coach Hartsfield issue , that was an entire staff issue. As far as high school football coaches go in my 50+ + years I never met a great coach that didn't already think they were to some degree. It will be a rough season, but I am curious to see who comes in and fills these spots and what the end result looks like. This will be one of two things . A great turn around or a terrible disappointment. I will still be pulling for them either way.

  33. I don't know the new coach from Adam, but a fresh start is needed. Only chance Blackman has of ever catching Oakland or Riverdale. If you maintain the status quo, just barely making the playoffs would be the norm

  34. Won’t even be close. We had our state convention in Chattanooga a few years ago. Rooms were very expensive. I’ve stayed for years in Cookeville for $55 or $60 a night. And a lot of homeless people are out at night in Downtown Chattanooga.

  37. If you would refer to the 3/4AAA thread you would see that I’m not using that as an excuse, but just stating a few reasons why we aren’t playing up to par right now. Yes, I’m sure every team is missing players etc, but there’s no getting around it that losing a 23 PPG scorer isn’t gonna affect your team in a pretty big way. But like I said in that thread, it’s still not an excuse. Like you said, they still came out on top, and that’s really all that matters.
