  2. Lots of Steve's family, Coach Gaddis, and some friends from the "Class of 82". Good people..good memories shared..the Oak Ridge Wildcat fight song was played and we sang along. I know Steve smiled at that because the sun broke up the rain clouds. Big Ed's Pizza followed. RIP my friend RWR!

  3. Savannah Davis put on a clinic of how to shoot the basketball at state. Her whole team did for that matter but they were on a mission.

  4. To all, "A gathering to remember Steve will be held Monday, March 13, 2023, 11:30 a.m., at Blankenship Field, in Oak Ridge, to be followed by lunch at Big Ed’s." If you can make it, that's awesome! If you can't, please keep his family in your prayers. RWR!

  5. Southside earned this championship. They played the 3 best teams at the tournament and beat them all. Give those girls their due!!!

  6. TNUSAW definitely wanted to add girls. They reached out, and myself and Panone of GA were trying to make it happen. Problem is there was a donation to fund the boys singlets and event apparel given to the boys. We didn’t have that for the girls, so it was either wrestle the event with girls and make them pay….or not give the girls any gear. Neither were a good idea to myself or Panone. With girls wrestling going, hopefully people will help find these events financially in the future. Plan is to have this by next year and do it right. People DO care about girls wrestling in TN…. actually a lot of people. We just need to be proactive and get people involved who just want to help, in any way needed.

  7. White County’s point guard reminds me of one they had back in the early 2000’s in Corey Crain. He’s pretty darn good!

  8. I’ve heard of a star player or two we are getting from the middle school. We lose a star gain another. Jadas sister is on the coaching staff there.

  9. All deserving. WV is glad that Jada finally got her due. Nominated 3x and finally got the recognition. Congrats to all of these young ladies & they all are excellent choices.

  11. A new book has been released about the legendary Coach. His teams were year end and year out were known for their competitiveness playing one of the toughest schedules in the state. The authors Jim Garrett and Nancy Arnold have documented it very well. Coach had six undefeated seasons, his 1937 team was featured in Ripleys Believe It or Not known as the point a minute team. He also coached basketball into the early 50’s with his teams earning 4 State Tournament appearances. His all time football record of 288-116-34 is still amongst the greatest in the state , especially considering those with better records playing now play up to 15 games with playoffs which began his final three seasons. He played many powerhouse teams in the Midstate Clarksville,Murfreesbro and Gallatin to name a few and NIL teams out of Nashville with annual battles with MBA , Isaac Litton and Father Ryan among others often having attendance above 4-5,000. Coach is a member of the National football Coaches Hall Fame, Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame and TSSAA Hall of Fame among others. Coach was high on fundamentals and preparation his teams were as competitive as they come. The book contains over 267 pages of information and lots of photographs and it’s available in paperback or hard cover. It is available at the Robertson County Museum on the square in Springfield and also online with Amazon just search Boyce Smith, proceeds go to the Boyce Smith Scholarship Fund awarded each year to a deserving SHS student. If you’re a fan of high school football you’ll enjoy it , many may have played against his teams or their Great Great Grandfathers went against his teams or coached against them. I know I have enjoyed my copy .

  12. lol. Those WV folks keep quiet mostly and they let everyone else do the chirping/hating. What's astounding is that they held every opponent at the Boro to an average of at least 21+ points less than their offensive average coming into to their matchups in the tourney. Offense wins the crowd, defense wins the championships. The teams that post 60-65 plus points on an average night don't like the games where you have to grind out every possession to get a good look. WV will be in semi-rebuild next year, but I don't think they'll change their philosophy or their approach.

  13. BB still has a chance, luckily for her Savanna wasn’t nominated this year. But I think ultimately the senior #23 Reynolds will win it

  14. You and me both know Poore to well and don't see Gillespie being on the team anymore. Chris will do anything for his players but won't turn a blind eye to DUI. Now I can see Poore trying to get Gillespie some help along with his entire family doing the same, he still has a long and productive life ahead of him to let this be his defining moment.

  15. Nah Poore is a better Man he won’t play him probably won’t even travel.

  17. I agree TN public school ball is weak atm anybody who watches a big variety knows this. (Could be a cycle maybe not) Whether it be players going out of state for prep or the private side. This state really didn't need 4A it watered the comp down big time. Oh well the games moves on.

  18. I think most people in Kingsport would consider it unethical as well. So there are no team rules? I don’t believe he will play. Here’s your Pandora box. It’s ok to get publicly drunk, DUI, police involved, failed breathlizer, be arrested , go to jail and get out on bond. But we will sit a player, for cutting practice, not going hard or back talking a coach. You can never punish an athlete and get away with it again.

  19. Yeah, he might not get kicked off for the fact that he was not actually driving. According to the article he was sitting in the car with his keys on him. Still stupid and still underage drinking

  22. Contact Mike Hatcher, and give him your plan! Put your words in action, and show this will be a well planned out event that will do good things for the entire state not just your club/ school and funding will be there. The funding and opportunities have always been there, up until now it has been all talk and no action. We will see if you’re full of #### or not. I guess it is time for you to get to work! Your comments did nothing to help this happen! Other than it’s time for all you guys that sit around on your butt and talk trash can actually get out and do some work, Instead of blaming other people and the TNUSA board. The individual that said he would help fund this wants to stay anonymous, but he has already spoken to the chairman of Tennessee USA wrestling.

  23. Without any doubt the 96-97 Perry County team. 37-0 and not a close game in Murfreesboro. Played and incredibly tough schedule and beat several teams in higher class that also reached the state. In my opinion they are one of the 5-10 best teams in any classification in TSSAA history.

  24. Old Pirate says bottom line is simple. Two schools were wronged by Jailhouse High, both dropped them because reoccurring bad deeds on a long period of time. Both Whitwell & South Pittsburg are better off. Jasper will be better off after the crying stops.

  25. I didn’t get to see her, but if she is better than Savanna Davis omg! The only reason Savanna Davis isn’t nominated this year is because of her injury she sustained during the season. That same injury is the only reason McKenzie had 7 losses

  26. Nice. Nobody knows what happens behind the scenes. It is nice to know we at least tried. Would love to help work on trying to try to find funding for the girls for future events.

  27. Cougar, do you want a girls event? Put Tennessee versus Georgia on in the same location I have somebody committed to help fund it. You have talked all this trash, now let’s see where your work ethic and your commitment is?

  28. I am not treating them differently, but I am not a coach. Have you reached out to the TNUSA Board to offer help? Have you reached out to Josh B. To offer help? Have you done anything at all other than getting on Coach T and criticizing? Unfortunately what you are wanting to see requires work and commitments. Why don’t you get off your #### and help. You could call Mike Hatcher or Josh B. And I am sure they would be blown away if you could help them. Right now Josh B. Is working his #### off to get teams put together 14U - Juniors! All I see you do is complain, how about helping with the change you are requesting.

  35. Ramsey from Unaka is most definitely the best 1A player in the State this Season. IF the Award is for the most complete player on any team regardless of record then she will win.

  36. Yes those were the top in each class that I saw at the state tournament and I watched all the games. The Reynolds sisters are pretty solid too! I know the gold ball is more important to these girls than Miss Basketball but it’s still a nice honor

  37. I love it! When in doubt, win a gold ball lol

  38. It’s just weird to have events going on and we can’t as a state add girls to the events. think there are 6 TN girls currently ranked in the country 3 in the top 10 1 top 15 and 2 top 30 why not give them an opportunity to shine as well.

  40. Game three is at the same location as games 1 & 2. There is no traveling to the lower seed for game 3 Major issues with this format. "They (whomever they is) wants to see the best teams in state tournament, not the best arm." The following is from a small school (Class A/AA) opinion. Note: If I am a large school (Class AAA/AAAA), I would be for it. More kids in program. More kids to choose from. Higher percentage of POs (Pitcher Only) in your program. That is a crap statement anyway because of the new pitch-count rules. A guy who throws 110/120 on Friday, for example, can't pitch till Wednesday of the state tournament which could be an elimination game. So you are not seeing him in the opening round. Then if he pitches on Wednesday, and unless he throws less than 45, his tournament run is over, because the state title game is Friday. Back it up Terry: Lets say the sub state game 3 is rained out as pushed that pitcher one day then there is a possibility he will not even throw a pitch in state tournament because of pitch rules. They (whomever They is) say, "We are tired of seeing bad baseball at the state tournament" Crap again. You are going to see bad baseball now. How is that? We are in a time where taxing kids' arms are a big deal. No matter what level. Most high schools, especially the lower classes (1A,2A), where your best arm (pitcher) is usually the SS, right? Not always, but you see that a bunch. Also, a lot of small schools have their catcher as their #2 or #3 or their weekend tournament guy which means come postseason time that catcher just became a starter. What is your point, XBOX? Region tournament time: The game one starter is your SS, pitches whatever you need to get that important game one win, then he has to go to SS for game 2,,3, and possibly game 4, making all those ground ball throws and such. Fast forward to game 3, and there is your boy, Mr. Grinder, The Dish Captain, whose thrown the ball 1,000 times the past two games, and now you are asking him to pitch an elimination game to get to the sub state round. 120 is now on the table. He is the best you have left, so go give us 7 innings or 120. Ok! Congrats! You have now advanced and in a couple of days you are in a 2 of 3 series. You are traveling, so you play games one and two on first day. Anyone you use for 25 pitches are more can't throw the next day (game three) if you need. So, that kid who pitched complete game in game one or whatever load is put on him, now has to play game two and game three (if nec.) in a prime position. We are adding more games in a shorter window on these kids. So, are we protecting arms? What about when that Class A regional gets to game three or the sub state gets to game three? What about those whom have played the extra regional and sub state games is now in state tournament? "They" say we are tired of seeing bad baseball, but are you actually improving game play? Are you sure you won't see even more bad baseball due to teams having kids being overworked in a short window of time and now having to pitch in state tournament? Class A/AA teams don't have the roster depth to pitch on a college level type of tournament/schedule. Now now.......Some do, so I will not say all, but the majority don't have the depth to do what is asked to avoid "Bad Baseball....." Not my words, but "They" Again, if I am Murfreesboro or Knoxville or outter Memphis (the big schools), I say bring it on. (Just wanted to remind I am speaking for the small, mostly rural, non-open county zoned schools. Back to it: So you have to travel to a sub state......say 2 1/2-3 hours to Chattanooga. Ok, you staying in a hotel because you are playing two with possibility of game three the next day. You have to put up your team ($$$$), you have to put up and pay for sit time for your bus driver ($$$$). Uh oh........Game three day has a big storm rolling in and washed it out (Don't say it doesn't happen because I have lived turning the bus around on a sub state day and have to go back the next day), so now we have to scramble, get another night in hotel ($$$$), same for bus driver ($$$$), and I almost forgot........You have to feed your team multiple meals ($$$$$). You win and now have to pay hotel and meals and driver again for state tournament if you aren't close enough to commute. Cha-Ching!!! But hey, doesn't this fell like the Road to Omaha? We haven't gotten into the educational side of this. All of this during EOC testing, final exams, and GRADUATION. I get it, let them graduate at home plate on the road at some school who is hosting sub state. I have seen it, it is awesome, and would love to experience it. If you have never experienced graduation at smaller, mostly rural, community based schools, then you do not know that there is a systematic and cultural difference with graduation and a school of 1,800. Not disvaluing any graduation but the smaller schools take it as the ultimate event. Not talking about the kids, but parents and administrators. Look, it is HS baseball. If I have a stud arm and my regional opponent has a stud arm, then it is a good night for HS baseball. If I lose the game, so be it. Shake hands, wish them well, and lets move on. If it is sub state and same thing; our best vs their best. Take a shot and move on. I love college baseball. I am glued to my ESPN+ account during regionals and supers, but the small schools aren't built for that. I really do not think we are improving game-play. I have been in this for a very long time. I have seen it all. Been a part of some close games win/lose in regionals and sub state and state tournaments. I have never one time said after a loss, "If we were in a three game series then we would win." Wished my opponent well and told my kids that we gave it a run, and we moved on. I really hope there is a load of schools in the A/AA that would fight it. I may be in the small minority.........who knows. I would like to see a vote based on classifications, not as a whole. Break it down per class and lets hear the voice.

  43. Fan enjoyment actually is very important for interscolastic athletics because a lot of teams depend on revenue from gates and concessions to fund their programs. Simply put, need fans in the stands.
