It wasn’t very hard for a couple to roll in and play a couple of years ago. I don’t think it is hard as you like to always make it seem to be at OR. Get the right kid or kids and it seems to happen.4 points

We aren't talking about the individual tournament. We're talking about a team tournament where the dynamic and structure of the teams are different each year. The point stands with the Dobyns Bennett example. However, that said, I think there are other criteria that should go before previous years results in the individual tournament. Head to head being one of them.3 points

I want to point out a few things. 1. Enough folks complained about the ridiculousness of a 16 man bracket being wrestled over the course of 3 days and now we have a 2 day tournament again. I do think if the T$$AA received enough complaints they would adjust the criteria next year. I mean they already changed it from last year with you now have to not only have placed last year to be seeded but you now also have to win your region and section duals. I’m sure that changed because folks complained about section winners being seeded that didn’t win their region duals. So I’m optimistic they would listen if enough people voiced their dissatisfaction. 2. Can you imagine if the football playoffs were seeded based off how you far you made it in the playoffs the prior year? And then they just did a random draw for any teams that didn’t make the semi finals or something like that? Just listen to how ludicrous that sounds and picture the uproar. Well that’s what they’ve done with the state duals and we’re just saying, “it is what it is.” 3. Honest question regarding the cow poop palace. How did the private schools get the T$$AA to approve them having their individual tournament at MBA and the public schools get left with having to continue to compete in a cold expo park on a dirt floor where some cow sh¡+ a few days prior to rolling the mats out? I’m sure these kids and coaches would rather wrestle at a nice public school with a big arena than this poop palace even if the T$$AA isn’t willing to secure somewhere nice for them like McKenzie, Thompson Boling, Bridgestone, Memorial at Vandy, MTSU, FedEx Forum, etc.2 points

Here is the deal. The coaches can make suggestions to have in state rules changed. Type them up and present them at the coaches meeting. suggest that tssaa change to year by year seeding for the dual championship. I would rather see it in writing up front.. like they do with football bracket or basketball bracket. ex. section 1 champ goes on this line. section 2 champ goes on this line. section 3 runner up goes on this line. that will stop all the debate as everyone will know where they fall.2 points

You see WG I am a full grown adult…I offered my opinion and like always on here if someone doesn’t agree with you they have to be a troll. Good come back!! Go spread the gospel of WG because we all know how only what you think is correct!! And Bump11 I am completely calm2 points

You are so wrong on this one. Yeah we don’t like each other. But as mentioned before “we” use to travel together during the Spring and Summer months under “Black and Blue” which btw back in the day was probably one of the baddest clubs in Tennessee. And if we weren’t wrestling each other we definitely cheered one another on. Just because of the training we all did together. And in recent years we have each taken each other’s guys on trips with travel squads. And a lot of these guys hangout with one another during the season and offseason.2 points

The only other broadcast team to be in the same class with them would be Pat Summerall and John Madden. I'll give Keith Jackson credit... he's one of only two commentators to ever have the ability to make me want to kick out the screen on my TV (the other being Gary Danielson). Jackson was often biased and obnoxious... Danielson just plain stupid. One of my favorite Vol memories... Powell broke through the line and had Bennie Blades to beat to the endzone... Blades grasping for Powell's shirttail and Jackson yelling "goodbye...touchdown!!! Then had to listen to Frank Broyles for two minutes wondering how Powell outran Blades for about 50 yards when Blades "has world class speed" and "set the 400 meter record for the state of Florida". According to both of them, Tennessee was lucky to be on the same field with Miami, and the only question was would Miami beat Tennessee bad enough to jump from #2 in the poll to the #1 ranking and win the national championship. The Vols smoked Miami 35-7, and Miami had to pull off a fake punt to score at all.2 points

@noonesfool, you understand me. Yes, we still both visit the board and comment when appropriate! @StarRaider Not a real Texan for sure. Heck, I do not even live there anymore, after 22 years of it. Great to hear from you too! Old Raiders never die.2 points

I feel bad for Cleveland, they have to wrestle the toughest match in the first round, boy did they get screwed on this.2 points
-
According to TSSAA you have to be returning medalist team as well as a region and sectional champ. So technically the only team that should be seeded is Cleveland. Because neither Halls or DB are sectional champs because they didn’t wrestle.1 point
-
There are no section champs just section winners as it stands today . You would first have to determine section champs , after you did that then the Draws for which Section Champ wrestles another section runner up would need to be random which would still provide a very real possibility for the two best teams being on the same side , they would wrestle each other in the Semis vs the 1st round, potentially.1 point

Idk man Bradley just forfeited the last three matches against a 3rd ranked Blackman team. I think they have some confidence coming into it. It will be a great match1 point
-
if i was to seed this years, this would be my bracket. Flipped the 3/6 and 4/5 matchups to avoid region foes meeting before the finals. 1. Cleveland vs 8. Arlington 3. Brentwood vs 6. Halls 4. Dobyns vs 5. Bradley 2. Summit vs 7. Bartlett1 point

the sad part is, they fork out the big bucks for football to play at Finley, for basketball to play at Murphy, for baseball to play at Smith Field (MTSU). Track and tennis both use MTSU. But wrestling, we can only go where it’s free.1 point

He said one person could not get something done. This was a pretty big deal when they changed from the Roundhouse to the cow patty palace, all because the UTC Mocs had an ESPN game and rolled the wrestlers right out of their tournament. Same tournament we are talking about! okay, it is a reach, and great job calling me on it!1 point

i see what you’re trying to do here lol and while you’re not wrong, you and i both know the situations are nothing alike.1 point

The best part of that Sugar bowl is when Keith Jackson ran into John Ward before the game and asked Ward if he thinks his boys can make it enough of a game to keep the audience till halftime. Ward said Jackson didn’t have too much to say afterwards1 point

This job is not a good one. They wont pay and are losing kids. No one good wants to get paid what they are offering and deal with losing kids. I know at least two guys that turned this down1 point

Bradley Bears and Cleveland Raiders do not ride buses together anymore. That would be a bad idea. It would cause a fight. I guarantee it. Do you want to bet me? I am Captain Guru and I approve this message.1 point

The enemies part is only for the local matches. Way back, the teams use to ride the same bus together to matches up north I-75. Tell them @StarRaider1 point

Found out our guy turned it down. After hearing what the pay cut would have been, I don’t blame him one bit for staying. Littons needs to add a surcharge to help boost the coaching supplements in fountain city.1 point

I think my biggest issue is using last years results to seed this years teams. Take DB for instance, they lose two of their best wrestlers one being a state champ. They're not the same team this year they were last year and shouldnt be seeded based off last years team.1 point

The T$$AA put out a release a couple of weeks ago thatvthe football regions are going to stay in place for two more years.1 point

No where in Knoxville nor the state of TN has what Valdosta has. That doesn’t mean that he won’t be successful. We have 2k+ kids in the building. There are athletes in the building. Hopefully he can change the culture to match that of a program like Valdosta…where the admin and community take football seriously. We certainly have the money and resources1 point

The solution is to hire the very best candidate available and then get out of his way and let the man do his job! Promoting from within is the easy hire and the most excruciating fire. Winning will solve most all of the problems and issues.1 point

I went and watched Lyon County in the All A tournament this weekend in Corbin, Kentucky. Remembered this post from awhile back and thought I would comment. Perry is very good. Unfortunately all of the scoring came from him and #22 (Shoulders?) and they lost to Newport by 2. So, I have a hard time believing they can win the overall state tournament now if they didn't even win the All A. I think they'll make it to Rupp fairly easily though, because nobody in their region has been even close to beating them yet.1 point

See you guys are thinking about this all wrong. I see it as a great opportunity for Summit to beat Cleveland. Then Brentwood also has a shot to do it! You don’t win at least you had a shot.1 point

We have ways to move around that give us the matchups we want (at least theoretically on paper). Where we start and who has to show will be important for both teams. I’m sure Ryan thinks the same way though We will see what happens. Should be a fun weekend with close duals all around.1 point

Rankings are just someone’s opinion and last year’s results are just that, last year’s results. If they really want to do it right, the 16 teams that competed (or did not) yesterday should be split into two 8-team sub-state tournaments that take place the week before the state tournament. The four region winners in each sub-state are separated by blind draw and you wrestle a one day bracketed tournament with a true second format. The two winners of the two sub-state tournaments are the 1 and 2 seed at the state. The two runner-ups cross over and are the 3 and 4 seeds. The third and fourth place teams also cross over. This gives the best seeding possible with no opinions or history needed to be taken into account.1 point

That’s twice in the last three years mere points have kept them from going. The good news is they should be right back in the mix again next year.1 point

Gonna make a football analogy for a few of my peeps on here. BC down 17-0 with abt 30 seconds left in the 2nd quarter, facing a 4th and 20 from their own 25 yd line. Do you go for it bc you "may" score? NO, you punt and hope to take it to the half down only 17-0, possibly make some adjustments, hopefully execute better and come back in the 2nd half with a better chance to win than if you were to have went for it. BC advanced AT LEAST one more "game" further in the "playoffs" possibly in part to their staff being focused on the big picture instead of a single (play) match that very easily could've been detrimental to the team (injuries, morale, etc) accomplishing another goal. Now, they have the opportunity and somewhat decent shot at a silver trophy. Will they be able to earn it? Probably not, but I guarantee you it's a whole lot better chance than most teams have next weekend. Add in the fact of being on the side opposite Cleveland, their chance of advancing to the finals could very well be better than a couple of teams that are better than them. FYI- Next weekend, BC will be facing the exact same situation except this time it's getting late in the 4th quarter and their playoff hopes are on the line. DON'T expect any more "punts".1 point

Yep. In the end it's still a game, and not life and death. It should be about family and friends once the game is over.1 point

This is despicable and sends the wrong message to the kids and parents. If at all possible you should absolutely never forfeit a match. People can say whatever they want but a forfeit because you may have the odds stacked against you is not the mentally tough attitude that kids need to have.1 point

You said it best. Pretty much every city Knoxville school is a feeder program for the upper tier of Knoxville schools. The sad part is I don't see this dynamic changing until something is done by Knox County. Once the one time transfer rule is approved there will be little chance of a school being able to break through the glass ceiling and get to that top tier imo.1 point
