  1. Now...as for Haywood....you know what I didn’t see in those kids? Quit. They NEVER gave up. You know what i did see? Great sportsmanship. It was so awesome to see, both teams really, helping each other up, acknowledging good plays, and just having a mutual respect for each other. Coach Chris is doing a great job with these young men. And after the horrific situations with Covid they have been through, it hurt me to see them hurting. Please let them know, Cyclone Nation will be praying for them and their families and they have our respect and brotherly love. It’s always a pleasure playing against great kids, from great communities, because of great coaches and families. Respect.......

  3. I don’t like talking smack before games. Or after. But, I gotta say my Cyclones rule 4A! I’m so proud of those young men for digging deep, playing unselfish ball, hard work in the gym, being students of the game, and playing with a passion for their community, the sport and each other. So proud to be a Cyclone. Hats off to a GREAT senior class! Thanks for taking great care of Cyclone Nation!

  4. It is sad, there are so many grownups on this site that set terrible examples for our kids today bashing coaches & kids. The Pirates lost to a very good Fayetteville squad who did what they had to do to win. My brother lived in the Fayetteville area and we talked about the great opportunity for this program to prosper quickly. This success will bring even more continued success for the program. Regards to all. Regardless of the lies written in these prior pages, the Pirates proudly took their Runner Up trophy. In fact it was loaded onto the ATV that hauled my grandson Jared Stone after he ended his career on crutches facing surgery and equipment back to the buses. Now to address my local neighbors up the road that regularly misrepresent honesty & good sportsmanship. The Pirates will proudly put the trophy in their trophy case for all you jealous neighbors to view regularly. Life is too short to waste so much time regularly responding to people that usually have little integrity, knowledge or plain jealous of the accomplishments of another group of young men. That said, this football fan would like to give a huge shout out to the Fayetteville Tigers for winning their 1st State Championship. I was lucky enough to be on SP's 1st State Championship way back in 1969. As my teammates number diminish it increasingly becomes more important what is truly most important. Congratulations to the seniors for the Pirates for displaying leadership throughout your high school careers, while most can only wish for such success. Thanks for the memories, the Pirate program is strong and start the 2021 season off with expectations of returning to the state championship, as they do annually. Happy Holidays

  5. Yes there were hiccups but this season got played. Thank you to the TSSAA for making this happen even among all the fear mongering. Remember all those that posted about it shutting down in the season or it would never start up.... thank you for being wrong!! Be safe, be smart, wear the mask and social distance when possible.

  6. I think this year as much as any has shown what a fraud much of the Mr Football process can be. Just mostly clueless media guys voting for the best players on what they perceive to be the best team.

  7. Where ya at? Where's that arrogance now? Do you want to admit you were wrong and underestimated the Tigers?

  9. It has been years since I have participated in this board under CYJacket. This is to all the Henry family. I want to give you my condolences, and my thoughts and prayers are with you in this terrible time. This community always pulls together in a time of need, I do not expect this to be any different. Coalfield Football is a major hub in this small community and we appreciate all efforts to keep this program as successful as it has been over the last 35 years. This coach was successful in keeping the winning tradition going after filling the large shoes of Garry Kreis. The success is directly related to his dedication to being a winner and knowing how much the community relies on this light to show kids the way to being successful. I have not been as involved in this program as I was over 12 years ago for various reasons, but that has not stopped me from holding this program dear to my heart. The lack of involvement is due various reasons not related to the program but because life happens. I want the family to know that from the bottom of my heart I do appreciate the effort. That effort was, in my opinion, a major success. Thanks.

  13. Congratulations to the Summit Spartans on a convincing victory last night. Very impressive showing by the Spartans. I’m not surprised that Summit won but was surprised how dominate they were right from the beginning. As others have stated Oak Ridge didn’t play their best football last night but Summit showed that it really wouldn’t have mattered. The Wildcats needed their defense to keep them in this game to have a shot at the end but D. Wade put that strategy to bed pretty early. Besides the Wades, I don’t know what all Summit has back next year but they could make some big noise in 6A next year. I hate dogging officials because it is a thankless job, but it was pretty bad last night. I don’t get it. They should use the best of the best officials for these championship games. Congrats to Oak Ridge on a great and memorable season. Every good high school football team ends their season with a loss except for 1 and you guys took it all the way to Cookeville. That’s a lot to build on.

  14. Sometimes it's the journey that makes it worthwhile. OR had to go through a gauntlet just to get there. They should take solace in that. We play Mairvul every year, so I'm well versed in hill country speak

  16. A 6A team would beat a 3A team? What a novel concept. I’ll also bet that the Kansas City Chiefs would beat the Alabama Crimson Tide. Maybe Alabama’s success in the SEC should carry an asterisk because they are incapable of beating the Chiefs.

  17. Oh I agree.Like I said earlier Fayetteville was a whole different animal than what i saw on paper. What Grider and company got in the off season was to guarantee not to lose in the Semis again to GB but he hit another bump in the road with another coaching staff with equal talent and AGAIN better coaching.BUT he did get another ball (well at least I hope he sent Roy and his goat to go get it off that Tucker mans field) to put in the case and only 2 teams can say that! I will be curious to hear what #7s mom has to say to them??That boy should have got a shot in the 3rd or 4th to get some breathing room.

  20. Lol!! And y’all wouldn’t do the same thing to us, IF you ever had the opportunity? We can’t help y’all are awful. Maybe try to get better, so you can maybe stop us from scoring? BTW, the 74-0 game, y’all had that one coming. That’s what happens when you vandalize other teams and schools property. You get your a$&&& handed to you for it. If you don’t like it, get better. It’s pretty simple. You need a Kleenex, Ope?

  21. They're definitely good, but not unbeatable. I know of 2 teams that COULD beat them if Oakland was on the road. Beating them at their house or a neutral site though, that would be tough.... Having seen both Alcoa and Oakland, I could see that IFL game being a nail biter. The only reason I'd pick Alcoa in that one is because they finally found a QB that could make Oakland pay. Oakland wouldn't run all over Alcoa either and that hybrid Wing T plays right into Alcoa's strength.

  26. I thought the Milan vs Alcoa game was officiated well. Milan had 2 flags and I think Alcoa had 4. They seemed to let the kids play.

  34. A very talented group of athletes from SP. I expect you all will be in the hunt again next year as well. As to it being an upset of the ages I'd disagree. Fayetteville is what I'd call a 10 pointer team. They raised their level (or lowered depending on your outlook) against the mid to upper level teams to win by 10 +/- 5. I think if SP had scored 8 more FC would have put another 6 on the board. And as was said earlier in the year, this group of kids have played and enjoyed success going back to the middle school years (starting with this group of seniors they were undefeated for 3 years running with conference player of the year every year as well I believe). Sometimes kids mature differently, some players leave (and come back in this case), sometimes you get the lucky bounce or not, etc so nothing is a given. But for folks who have personally watched these young men play over the years its not as shocking that they showed up to play. And if it was luck or overconfidence or poor coaching decisions, well... you know I'll take the win that way too. I'll also say a "Thank you" for the kind/positive comments from the SP fans on coacht. Grace during a loss is always commendable and appreciated. That speaks well of your people and program.

  35. I'm a grown man and congratulations to Fayetteville on the championship. You wanted it more and sure out coached us. Just hard at SP all these years to see all the athletes that have come through and no more State championships. I'll just keep my opinions to myself. Everybody knows what has happened. Don't want to take away from Fayetteville on there great team victory.

  36. From East to West the same rumor is circulating. After the TSSAA makes their money this weekend, there is not anything holding them back from making this decision. What worries me is if they delay it for a a couple weeks does indoor sports ever start back up?

  37. I had seen every sp game on film. On film they looked liked they would win easily. I saw Fayetteville in person when we played them at the beginning of the year and they were a good looking team. Good size and some quickness to go with it but I thought sp would wear them down. MC dominated the line of scrimmage against them on both sides and just had a couple quicker kids. They have gotten a lot better over the course of the season but a lot of that yesterday was hearing all year that the pirates were winning a gold ball no matter what. They played with a chip on their shoulder almost the whole game. It would surprise me if #7 and #28 we there next year.

  39. I hurt some Oak Ridge and Henry Co feelings when I said Summit had an easy path to a gold ball after beating Beech in the quarters. Turns out it was true. Summit won the state at Shackle Island Stadium on Nov 20 when they scored with 27 seconds left to beat my Bucs. Their semi and final games were cake walks. Turns out my comment wasn’t so “dumb” and I wasn’t talking out of my “you know what” after all. Congratulations to the Spartans on a great year. Nice to have the 5A gold ball back in middle TN.

  41. Yeah, that could definitely happen moving forward, but so far it really hasn't been the case. Almost all of the City kids have been kids that grew up in City schools. Both City and County schools are open zoned, though, so it's not at all unusual for a City kid to grow up in a County school of vice versa, as long as they don't need to ride the bus. It's been that way for at least 40-50 years at the elementary and junior high/middle school level; it just carries over to high school now.

  43. Alcoa was putting multiple guys in the NFL when the had less than 300 students long before Coach Rankin came to Alcoa. Coach Rankin has created a program with great community support, amazing assistant coaches, kids that have bought in and are willing to pay the price. He has a system that works. Those kids put in an unbelievable amount of work for teenagers. I wish folks wouldn't try to belittle their effort and accomplishments.

  44. Dumpster fire. Contradicts everything stated about the firing of Dan Bland, but is exactly what happened. They're (the "adults") reaping what they've sown, and it's sad that the football program is the one suffering the most... they effectively killed one of the most storied programs in West Tn. with their racism and ineptitude.
