Super 6 plan

This plan is a joke. It is all about money for the TSSAA. Travel times will increase for schools which will result in less revenue, but the TSSAA will keep their 8 state champs and playoff money. I thought they were suppose to act in the best interest of the majority?

Not sure how regular season travel times will increase, and I see just the opposite happening.  With only the region games counting towards playoff spots there is the potential for non district games with schools much closer than with the current format.

Travel in the playoffs?  Schools are already traveling 100 miles or more for a first round game.  That's not going to change with the proposed format for a large majority of the schools.  It's the playoffs - teams have to travel.

Yea, when I lived in Ocala, FL, we had a team from Citrus travel to Pensacola for a 1st round playoff game.  That is a 7 hour trip.

I like the new format for the most part.  It will be a burden for the isolated 6-A schools in terms of travel.  Also, It will make it really hard for the smallest schools to be competitive in the playoffs.  However, I didn't like the emphasis on total wins for seeding over district wins.  Also, I agree with HTV, that regions should be as uniform as possible.  The old 5 team districts really distorted the playoff matchups.

I think a Trousdale County vs Alcoa game would be perfect to decide the semifinal 2a game every year don't you Confucius. Wonder who wins that every year?

confucius say...in the new plan TC will be 1A....Westmoreland will be 2A....Maybe Westy and Alcoa will meet in the semi's every year...TC would probably be meeting SP...like we used to.

It would be fun to let every school like alcoa fulton maryville etc. to move up to super32 and just let the smaller 6a schools slide down. Opt in every 5 years or so. That would get all the best schools in. Although I guess since alcoa dodged fulton last year they would probably not want in. They may be happy in 2a.  :popcorneater:

Is everybody really gonna call this the "Super 6" or "Super 32". Maryville, Alcoa, and others are laughing at this!!

Call it whatever one wants - it really doesn't matter.

Since it is the 32 largest schools in the state, how about the "Jumbo 32"?

The more I look at this plan and study the teams that are left out of 6A that are currently in 6A, I think this is a conspiracy to keep a certain team out of the 6A playoffs.

If that were the case, I don't believe schools would be allowed to move up. If no one does move up, however, that would sure make the 5A playoffs awfully boring.

Your right. I can think or at least 3-4 teams that will probably petition to move down. Hopefully that happens and 6A can replace some mediocre programs with programs that are very good

Who in the heck would be in region 1 1a, could create alot of long rides.

According to the proposed region breakout that I am looking at from a link on this thread, 1-1A would only have 4 teams in it. Thus, with this new system, all would automatically be in the playoffs.  One other region would only have 5 teams in it.  There would also be 5 regions in 1A that would have 8 teams in each region.  How fair is that?  There is the "potential" for a zero win team to make the playoffs in 1A along with a 1 win team as well.  In 3A, you have the "potential" for a six win and a five win team to not even make the playoffs in one proposed region while two other regions in 3A would have 80% of its teams make the show every year.  And this new proposed system that people are saying is going to pass is better than what we currently have how exactly?

    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
    • I would not put too much stock into the UH over Eagleville. From what I understand they were pretty banged up in that tourney. Catcher was out, they were throwing pretty deep in their bullpen and a few key players were beat up in their infield. Sounds like they are pretty healthy heading into the district tournament. Look at their schedule, they played some really good teams.
