50% attrition is completely normal over 3 years with today's teens. You have kids who all think they are going pro as freshmen. As the years go by many figure out they are not and just quit because they don't want to "ride the bench". Others decide getting a job/car is more important to them. Any time you have what is basically a "no cut" roster, you are going to have a high rate of attrition. Brentwood having 40 seniors is quite out of the ordianry for sure. Look around. There are many schools, even 1000+ student populations, that are lucky to dress 50 kids total.

One more day fellas been a long week and all the talk has been fun. Can Waverly keep up their high power and fast scoring offense? Can Waverlys Swiss cheese D hold up? Can CA defense hold up? Can CA slow Waverly down and can Waverly stop CA running attack? Is it going to be a runningclock game? WILL THE 72 DOLPHINS SHOW UP? This is why it's been a fun week those questions right there!! 5 years as head coach. 5 years regional champs. 5 years quarterfinals, 1 semi final. 55-7 record. Not too shabby. Our youth football program started several years ago has helped our program tremendously and Coach came on as those 1st guys were entering high school. Unfortunately, someone is going to be disappointed and won't be moving on. Both teams should be proud. There are a lot of others at home this Friday night just wishing there were in the quarterfinals.

He has a great show. If he didn't I wouldn't listen.

Never mind the TD that was called back on a bogus call, fumble pounced on out of bounds and given to Betsy (ending in a score with short field), the four penalties in a row against AC I guess as feel goods since the game was in the bag, and three of our big pass plays setting up scores in the red zone being called back...right? Don't forget the play were there was no movement for 5 seconds on the goal line...and no whistle that gave Betsy a score. That is a hoot to watch on the Youtube vid! It should have been running clock and the game was under Mav control all night. That is the real story...

Some people just don't understand or care. We got really tired the second half of our first meeting with Whitwell. Looking back.. SP had several games in a row where starters only played a half. I think that can make a difference as well. Coaches have to keep kids in shape this late in the season.

I'm not picking against Coalfield. I have said since last year they should go to Cookeville. They have absolutely zero excuses to not be the representative from the east. When you have that many seniors on a 1A team it's very hard to beat you. Greenback will be in the same role next season. 2018 is the year of Greenback again. They should mercy rule everyone until the semifinals next season. They should be in Cookeville... but back to this season. I think Coalfield will get the win this time. I like all my Greenback buddies, but as you know I just call it like I see it. Even when I'm talking about my Pirates. Whoever wins this game should be in Cookeville. Whitwell has a solid team. SP has a solid team, but it's not like the ones you boys may have seen several years ago. Coalfield wins tomorrow night by 14. This is their last chance to go to Cookeville for awhile and their coaches know it. Opportunities like this one with all of those quality seniors don't happen often in 1A. They better seize the opportunity. However if it's close in the fourth quarter tomorrow night then Greenback could pull the trick again.

Well said lead. For those of us that played 30 and 40 years ago, can you imagine kids getting coached the way we were coached? My son certainly wasn't coached the way I was coached. He had outstanding coaching, but it wasn't nearly the same. We're all on here because we LOVE football. I'm not so sure that the game we loved playing and now watching, will be around in the next 20 years. The game gets watered down a little more every year and eventually, our sons/grandsons will be wearing full gear along with a belt with flags attached to it.
