  1. We may be pulling for two different teams in the Championship as I am with Gibson County, but I must hand it to you. Your insightful and anlaytical post makes me like you already. You also see the game "inside" the game. I knew the Loretto starters played almost the entire game against Greenfield with that up and down game. I think this will be a good game. Summertown is a good team, Greenfield is a good team, Loretto is a good team, and we are a good team. If Loretto shoots the lights out, like they did in the first half yesterday, we could have some trouble. Expect a little different look than GReenfield gave you in the 1st quarter. Here's to hopefully a great championship game! At the point, it's who has the best day on "this" day. Good luck.

  2. none of GC's 5 seniors will play college bkb....but Karly sure will...I hope she becomes a Lady Vol....and nobody has mentioned that GC was missing a starting guard tonight...Macy Neal....rolled her ankle last night early in the game and never returned....that just shows how deep GC is....

  3. Other than Weathers, Loretto shot 22%. Gibson County shot over 60% from three and 46% overall. Loretto only had two more fouls than Gibson County, and Gibson County only shot two more free throws than Loretto. I mentioned back on the first page that fatigue could play a factor in this game, especially for Loretto, and I think it did. Victoria Chadwell played 91% of the time (88 of 96 minutes) Karly Weathers played 99% (95 of 96 minutes), that's a lot for a team that hasn't played in three games in a three day stretch since Christmas Break. Even though Karly Weathers played well today, Ke. Weathers, McBee, and Caldwell went a combined 2 for 16 today. Needless to say, I am proud of Gibson County. Played well and a team that is amazing from the free throw line. I don't know if any of those players are playing college basketball, but they're one great of a high school basketball team. I'll admit, I didn't believe in them early this season at all.

  4. Sorry Vandy , GC deserved the gold ball and Karly deserved the MVP. Not a better player in the tournament

  5. Congratulations to Karly Weathers. Well deserved. Played her heart out. Great attitude and sportsmanship. No dirty playing from the fantastic freshman. Can't wait to see what this young lady does in the rest of her high school career. Congrats to Gibson County on the win. Hope everyone has a safe trip home.

  6. Because of the two phantom charges on Karly that took away 4 points and the two and ones. And the continual grabbing that Gibson Co got away with. This your first game moron?

  7. Ok, the RTC South is about to release their practice schedule and they are looking to start up the first of April. Looks like they are going to go 4 days a week. 3 nights during the week and on Sunday’s. When they finalize the practice schedule days and times I will post it here. The RTC South is free to all participates but USA Wrestling has very specific rules as to which College and High School wrestlers are eligible to apply to attend an RTC practice. And, I should point out that even if an athelete is eligible to attend an RTC practice, they still have to apply with the RTC to be able to join an RTC and the RTC has the right to restrict any one from practicing at anytime I.e. room size, bad behavior in the room, distance, etc. 1st and most important USA RULE to practice at any RTC. 1. Wrestler has to have an current active USA MEMBERSHIP CARD ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS - Even though RTC’s are open to HS and College wrestlers I’m only going to list the one that apply to prospective High School wrestlers (PSA’s) Below is the Eligibility requirement that All High School prospective student athletes (PSA’s) must meet before they can apply to practice at any RTC - a. Won at least one match at a USAW World or Olympic Team Trials d. Placed top 8 at UWW Junior/Cadet National Championship c. Placed top 8 at USAW Junior/Cadet National Championship (Fargo) d. Placed top 4 at the High School State Championship e. Placed top 4 at the Prep National Championships f. Placed top 4 at USAW State Junior/Cadet freestyle/Greco-Roman Championships All PSA’s participating in the RTC practice must meet the above criteria before they can apply with an RTC to attend any RTC practice. An RTC has to turn their rosters into USA Wrestling so this is why every PSA has to meet the above criteria! Obviously, for the vast majority of the PSA’s that will attend the RTC South they will meet the criteria by placing top 4 at their HS State or USA Freestyle/Greco state. I doubt there any PSA who has placed at National Prep, Fargo or UWW who didn’t place at their HS OR Freestyle state so I’m not sure why those are even in there. Now not only does PSA: have to meet the above criteria they also have to follow these rules too. a. A PSA must live within 250 miles of an RTC to participate in practice. If there is no RTC within the boundaries listed above, the PSA may join the closest RTC to his residence by applying for an exemption through USA Wrestling. This 250 mile rule covers every High School Wrestler in TN because it’s air miles and not driving miles so all the Memphis HS wrestlers are eligible. b. A PSA may belong to more than one RTC. c. Only the PSA or USA Wrestling can pay for a prospect to attend RTC practice. d. A PSA may not practice at a regional training site during that PSA’s traditional high school wrestling season f. Once a PSA has signed a National Letter of Intent, the 250 miles radius rule is no longer applicable and that PSA may attend the RTC of their choice. Here are some of the USA Rules that RTC’s must follow that apply to PSA’s. 13) An RTC may limit the size of their roster based off safety (facility size) Behavior or Distance (example – fewer than the 250 mile radius). 14) An RTC may NOT pay travel expenses or fees associated with competition for the PSA. 15) An RTC coach, who is employed at a college or university, may NOT coach a PSA at any competition unless they are on coaching assignment by USA Wrestling.

  8. I'm in shock! Didn't go today but the previous times I've seen Loretto play they didn't play nothing like they did today. Congrats to the Lady Mustangs on a big time win. You gonna have to play another great game tomorrow to beat the Lady Pioneers. As for the genius name it comes from crappie fishing. I'm top 5 in the universe crappie fishing!

  9. Congrats to Coach Reuter & the Bearettes. We didn’t shoot the ball too well in the Region Championship through the first round of State, but our defense played extremely tough and kept us in games. We shot the ball better yesterday and today. Blair was amazing and deserved Tourney MVP, Walker played like a Region MVP on both ends as well, but It took a team effort. Hughes made an early 3 in the semis & Championship game to give us huge momentum, Roberts played great defense & is deceptively quick. Mayo came off the bench & wore the other team down as well as making some key 3’s in both games. Jamia, Barnes & Amelia also gave quality minutes in all 3 games at State. And of course ‘the Beast’ Hannah Lombard - the 5’7” senior post player played tough while in foul trouble and sank the game winning 3 pointer. Great job girls. 4 seniors graduating, but lots of good ball players waiting in the wings. I will be shocked if they don’t make it back to the glass house next year to go for #7.

  10. I heard talking to some Loretto fans before we played Summertown, that it's in her family. Dad was a star baseball player, mom a standout at Belmont I think. It's in her gene's. I wish i had some of that in my family!

  11. Please get off that soap box . Too many posters on here that aren't GC fans have concurred coach Wilkins has instilled an aggresive, but disciplined defense. They pride themselves on that and free throws because that's usually what wins Championships. How many of those fouls came late in the game when they had the other team on the ropes???

  12. My point is, it's better to have more than 2 or 3 "go too" players. If one 1 or 2 have a bad night it's going to be difficult. If I said average, I apologize...I don't think I did if you read my post. Gibson County was blessed to have 5 or 6 that can all score and contribute in some way. Defensively or offensively. Our scoring has always been pretty equal the whole season. I've watched this team for 30 something years. We were just blessed to have a team like we did. In 2 years Loretto should be in the same position. I'm not throwing shade on Loretto at all. You guys will be the favorites for the next couple of years. Trust me...I'm not one to talk bad about kids that are trying to compete.

  13. Yep. Rather have 5 or 6 good players than 1 super star anytime. As tonight proved. Granted, she is definitely going to eventually be a Miss Basketball winner. She is a stud and can pretty much play any position on the floor. She's that good!

  15. West TN is strong as well as the state in Single A. Loretta, Summertown and Clarkrange will all be back as well. GC will be good for at least five years.

  16. I will call it first. Hart will average 12-14 next year as will Bass and Neal. Sweat may and Hunt as well. It will not be a rebuilding year!!

  18. Just got in and wanted to give some props to Loretto. Those girls will be around the Glass House again before it's over. Long, lanky, and Karly Weathers was the easy MVP for this tournament. She's a gifted athlete who can flat out ball. Hopefully, we will be back soon. 3 good games today. Very proud of this GC team and the way they've fought all year long and how hard they've played all year long. We got some good ones coming up to help what we have left over....we may be back again real soon.

  19. it'll be interesting to see Loretto-Summertown the next 3 years....both teams are young and loaded....

  20. I wouldn't put them in the top 5 because last year was the best year they have had in over 10 years. But, I believe McNairy will be in the mix with Milan and Covington. They return a lot from this past season and will be led by a number of seniors.

  21. Congrats to the Lady Pioneers. These fine young ladies have been a joy to watch this season. Coach Wilkins is a great coach. His team is so ball smart and unselfish.

  22. Weathers is definitely the MVP! If not for her this game wouldn't have been close. What a great job of nailing FT by GC. Great day of basketball for all the games.

  23. I agree Gibson County plays team ball. Everyone gets involved and they hit very well today. Great team. Look to see them back next year

  24. Loretto has 1 fantastic player and 4 average ones....GC has 5 pretty good players....I'll take 5 pretty goods every time....

  25. Gibson County is just automatic from the FT line. 10-10 down the stretch of this game. Karly Weathers for Loretto is a player. She alone kept Loretto in the game. K.J. White still done a really nice job of guarding Karly Weathers. Loretto will be back next year in my opinion. A very young team. Gibson County just has a better overall team but don't really have a star player like Karly Weathers from Loretto. They truly play team ball & depend on everyone that plays to help them win. Congratulations to Gibson County for taking home the 2018-19 Class A State Championship. Karly Weathers was just named MVP. Some may disagree that the MVP shouldn't go to the losing team but Gibson County didn't have a player that was really the MVP so I agree with Karly Weathers getting the MVP.

  28. Hollow or not, I thought she deserved it. In too many instances awards go to upperclassmen or a member of the winning team, even though our eyes and stats say otherwise. Absolutely the most impactful player in the classification won it.

  33. One of the worst calls I've ever seen! It's getting worse the longer the game goes on. Weathers is a beast. IMO she is the best player in Single A. Only a freshman and has had a tremendous tournament. Win or Lose she should get MVP

  44. Thank you! That's the way we play. We attack and play sound fundamental basketball. Coach Wilkins should be coach of the year. We played one of the toughest schedules this season. If not the toughest. Beat Westview twice, TCA twice , Peabody three times, Summertime twice, Greenfield once. What other single A team can make that claim? I'm sure he won't, but deserves it. Based on who we have played and beaten with no superstars on our team. He gets the most out of his players and stresses fundamental basketball. Summertown is a great team. They will be a early season favorite in my opinion next year. You should be excited for the next 3 to 4 years.

  45. I thought Loretto had a really good chance at winning this game but I still just couldn't make myself believe they could beat the defending state champs. I will say that this Greenfield squad is nowhere near as good of a team as the 2018-19 squad. Loretto has a really good team & they are a pretty young team too. Karly Weathers is just a freshman but she plays like an junior or senior. With only 1 senior on this year's team look for Loretto to be right back in Murfreesboro probably for the next 2-3 seasons. This is a very talented & well coached team. Karly Weathers will be in the Mrs. Basketball Award running for Class A probably her next 3 seasons @ Loretto. She's one heck of a player. Loretto vs Gibson County in the Class A Championship should make for a barnburner of a Championship game. I want to say Gibson County will win but this Loretto team can beat them if they have another game like they have played the last 2 days.

  47. Correct me if I'm incorrect, but I believe Westview's All State guard Jones blew out her knee in the 1st quarter of the 1st game of the tourney last year and then their center tweaked a knee in your game. You may be correct, but those injuries probably played a role in that matchup. Watching WV and Jackson South Side, I'd say it'd take a mighty great effort to be quicker and more aggressive than Jackson SS. If their #1 guard hadn't blown her knee out against WV, Jackson SS would've made the tourney and they were very fast & physical. Hopefully, both Macon & Westview will make it to Saturday. I think it'd be a great game.
