  1. Most schools do not truly understand how difficult it is to barely have enough players to field a team. I hate it for those that want to play. I know it is not fair to those on schedule that now have lost a game but in all fairness at least those schools still have a team. I can guarantee there are players at Oakdale that feel worse than any of the players on the teams they have to forfeit to. I have played (many years ago) on teams with less than 20 dressed. It’s a tough task and we lost a bunch of games but pulled a few upsets also. I had the time of my life and enjoyed it. If I could go back in time....I would have still played with those other 15 or so guys I still consider good friends. We battled together and have a bond amongst us. So before any stones are cast at Oakdale...think about this.....how would you and your son feel if he played for Oakdale. I can only wish them the best. To those senior players...cherish and hold onto the memories.

  2. Cade deserved it last year him and Stanton both did. They had unbelievable year. Think they will both be finalists this year and both will deserve it again. Good luck to Beatsy and Greeneville ..... we should see the loser 2nd round at AC!!!

  3. Here are the teams with a loss that has earned it in the aspect of higher division, maybe higher rank. Tyner Columbia Academy Waverly Waverly If you count the loss to 1A Huntingdon scheduling up ( they are a good team but it's not the same to losing to Greeneville or Alcoa ) they didnt make it to the championship last year so you can play up their ability all you want, you didnt get that one done 2 years in a row. Fairley Those are the teams with deserved losses according to the butthurt Troll. Its comical he wants to back his team for their losses but says nothing about the other teams with the same scenario type losses. Best thing you can do is go take a shower clean out the salty draws you apparently have massive buildup. Union City This team also has a loss to a team who is considered scheduling up. And a couple losses to other teams with many key players hurt. But all their competition has been good none the less. Trousdale 3 losses to 3 great teams. 2 of which were to higher division teams other is to Whitwell an undefeated ranked 1A team definite contender along with South Pitt, and Greenback from the East. Instead of attacking someone's schedule why dont you give credit to someone else's schedule other than your own Troolin or are you so blinded by the butthurt that your team has 3 losses you fail to see you arent in a class of your own. I doubt you could beat any of those teams and when you got beat they wouldn't say they scheduled up when they played Waverly. They would say good offense but their defense wouldn't keep them on the game. Trust me when i say there are defenses in 2A that will maybe not stop your offense completely, but will slow it down over the course of four quarters to get a win. Sounds like your loss last year that put you out of the playoffs right? There are sadly for you a few teams out there that can do that in 2A. And in West Tn I'm sure. If not, if were fortunate enough to make it to face each other Meigs may just have it waiting on you. I'm not looking past next game either fanboy. But at least I could look past 3 losses and hold my head high if I were in your shoes instead of moaning about opponents that have no meaning to you at this point . If you like I can make a fanboy poll for.you and put Waverly in the top 3 and Meigs 17th if it makes you sleep and feel a little better about yourself.

  4. I would rather play tough teams and build off of it and not be ranked than play a cupcake schedule and be ranked.

  5. PC has played a much tougher schedule. Even their losses were hard fought and close, and to excellent opponents. Pearl advances deep into the playoffs every year. East is as talented as ever. They usually waste that talent and self destruct. They have no playoff success, EVER. The best predictor of the future is the past. That's my logic.

  6. She had to triple the price because she isn't making any profit from her sports teams. She thinks that HL is Harvard or something. High School is about Education and ATHLETICS. There has to be a healthy balance of both. But the "new age" principals don't understand that because everyone is trying to "sell" academics, academics, academics....Where does a school get its moral? Sport teams!!! When is the last time you heard UT Alumni talk about that education they received? I'll Wait! It is understood that you get out of education what you put into it. I hear UT Alums discuss their athletics all the time. It is just the God to honest truth. And life is about winners and losers. You either learn to win or lose. Losing does not make you a loser it is how you respond to that lose. Those kids aren't even being giving the chance to have success. So ultimately she is teaching them how to be comfortable with losing which turns a individual into a loser. Where is the honor in that!?!?!

  7. IMO---The hardest part is all the finalists deserve the award for their accomplishments! These are unbelievable athletes that have people around them that make them look good that never get the glory these finalists do. I will always keep up with these young men! WOW just WOW on what they have accomplished.

  9. I'm taking Rondarius Gregory over ALL three of those RB's. DL is cant be that good FB - ya'll allow 30+ points a game. East has at least 4 that apply the pressure! I know for sure he's a stud. OL I'll give Pearl that. Everything else is facts!

  10. You had 3 chances to prove your team was "great" or deserved a #1 ranking, and well we know how that turned out. Truth of the matter is since your defense is so bad your qb may win Mr football again. Easy to put up good numbers when in 10 games you play 40 quarters whereas competition only has 20 quarters to compete because their team takes care of business by half time. But go ahead and brag about how good your team is and how they deserve a number #1 ranking. No one at Meigs cares that we are #1 you only care that your team isn't. And btw if we are somehow lucky enough to meet go ahead and bring some crow. I doubt they serve it at the concession where we may meet. No one needs to earn the respect of someone who is butthurt over his team under performing while he is mad at a team that has managed to get it done. Oneida is next up for us they are 5-2. Laugh if we get beat if it makes you feel better. Polk after that will probably be 6-2 the following weekend when we play them. If you had beat one of those teams you would probably be a great team but all you have left is to bash another teams schedule because your schedule is tough and you didnt get it done.

  11. Mr. Hammer, now are you the one to pass judgment here? You are one of many WB grads to send kids to the other schools, joining the other side is taking the easier route sir, you tell me what that tells your kids?

  12. People forget it's a game and 2 teams show up and wanna win!! The best team doesn't always win!! We all joke and rib each other but facts are facts!!!! I had rather come into the playoffs battle tested than having ate cupcakes all year,I believe Peabodys loss might save the season! I believe that whole heartedly!!!! I can say I know it's the best time of year in Tennessee sports!!!

  16. Praised? Whoever said anything about praised? I’m not asking for praise. That’s not what my argument is about. My argument is the heat our team is getting for giving up lots of points to 3 good football teams. The heat we’re getting for losing to those 3 teams. At least Waverly played those tough teams. Not for praise, but to make them a better team. A battle tested team to prepare for playoffs. Our Region “no offense” is a joke. Waverly has won it 4 years in a row, this will be the 5th. So my argument is why has Waverly been catching mouth from people, but these other teams are playing teams that aren’t any good and beating them mercifully. And everyone’s like... they are sooo good. Waverly scores a lot of points on offense. Good teams. Bad teams. It doesn’t matter. Union City plays out of state teams. Cool. They got their butts kicked too. Why do you think their coach schedules those games? To make his team better. Same thing. Waverly scored all over UC in preseason. Bottom line is Waverly is playing tough teams to make them better. It will prepare them for post season. I just don’t see how strength of schedule isn’t a factor. Because it is. The BCS uses the same system to rank teams. Just sayin.... but it’s all ok. We don’t want praise, but we don’t want mouth either. Just like I don’t agree that the weakest 2 schedules in 2A should be praised for winning them all

  17. Really going by history as much as anything. R1/5A teams tend to put together good regular season records but then go one-and-done in the playoffs. It has happened over and over and over. Yes, an occasional exception like 2009 Boone and Tennessee High, but that is way outside the norm. As to scheduling tough games to get ready for the playoffs, I don't know how much that helps if you just don't have the athletes to compete outside the Tri-cities. R1/5A teams tend to have pretty good skill players but the biggest difference I see year in and year out is in the trenches.... Our guys just end up getting shoved around on the line and more so as the game progresses. Every year it is the same thing. I just don't think Tri-cities teams are serious about conditioning. Nobody would love to see that change this year more than me, but history suggests that it just isn't going to happen. I am still predicting all R1/5A schools to start basketball season Nov 3. Guess we'll see in a few weeks....

  19. HL success in academics is parallel to their athletic success. There is no pride at a once very proud school and community. Any parent with the chance sends their kids elsewhere. This will not change without new leadership.

  20. Last week the guys on the 104.5 Friday Night Finals show picked Watertown and (maybe it was and/or) Columbia Academy for the State Champion game. So at least someone is taking notice. Not worried about respect or getting noticed. Most of what people know is based on past years teams, not this years. One of the beautiful things about high school ball, change, for better or worse, can come quickly. And then there are teams that always seem to be good, TC, Tyner, Meigs, Marion, etc, etc. it’s really impressive. I’ve heard a bunch about Waverly and how good they are. So during the bye week I went to go see them. To be fair the we’re playing a very under manned Houston County team, so I’m not sure how much Waverly actually had to do to win that game. But that being said, I really didn’t see anything that worries me about them. A good team, a couple of quirky formations but nothing a good defense couldn’t sniff out. Maybe I couldn’t get a good gauge on them based on their opponent but overall, I think TC is a way better team than Waverly. I think TC or H2O would win fairly comfortably against them. Again, just one mans opinion based on one game.

  21. CPA For years we heard how we “recruit” but could produce facts like 17 of 22 starters were enrolled at CPA in K5. It doesn’t matter to me, like I said, I’m good with what’s best for the kids. Make a team however you want whether it be via transfers or developing what you have and I’ll still enjoy the game. It’s just funny to see a new transfer (not just Hillsboro) show up and be the best player on the team every year.

  22. If it sucks for PC, then how do East feel every year?
    1 point
  23. Well, last year he had a transfer from WC that debuted against us. I actually had an Uber driver the other day from PC in the same class that won state and had Henderson and he said “Coach is a great recruiter”. Its funny, the transfer thing is a much bigger thing with the publics we play but we heard for years it was privates. It doesn’t bother me though, I’m happy for the kids to get to play.

  24. Parents like how he treats their sons. The things he does off the field. The expectations he has for players. He is raising young men for college and the future. It is not about Hillsboro it is about coach. It happened at PC and Stratford. Only negative is he does it with kids from everywhere and does not mind reaching out to them.

  27. Are they still doing a separate award for the lineman? If so Reece Plemons from Greenback has completely dominated both sides of the ball all year long.

  28. In the east for 1A. It’s easily the Greenback QB and a couple of the studs from Whitwell.

  32. Throw in the towel?? Not at all. This is a winnable game for us and I realize it. Matter of fact it's exactly the kind of win our program needs to propel us on a deep playoff run. That's the point I was trying to make. Good luck with Pearl on Friday night. I'd love to watch that game.

  33. Sounds like those Macon County people a couple years ago saying they had the fastest kid in the state and he would run all over PC. They went home with a 40 point beatdown.

  34. A lot of people don't know this but I also made a 36 on the ACT. I took it four times and made a 9 each time giving me a 36. That should be a lesson for everyone not to judge a book by it's cover.

  35. Meigs returned 11 starters on offense and 9 starters on defense from a 12-1 season last year, they lost to Rockwood after the QB got hurt at the start of the second quarter, if not for that I believe they might have been in Cookeville last year. they have one of the best QB,s in the state, they have some very good receivers and three very good running backs, they have one of the best lines you will see in 2A, I’m pretty sure the coache said they play around 22-25 kids on first defense. as far as the schedule they play all 3A and 4A schools in non region games, but those teams are down this year. And I think just about every game has been over by the end of the first quarter Besides Sequatchie there not a bad team.

  36. They are pretty sporty, but not one of the top classes to come up. They ran out of the I formation which is good for a middle school team... they have good sized boys already. Skill wise they have 1 really great kid that probably will see playing time next season as a freshman. If these boys stay together all 4 years they have the making of being a good hs football team one day.

  38. The top part of your post appeared to be pointed at Cornersville..."Make NO mistake about this Huntingdon team, it is NOT the same team you saw last year Cornersville." If I misunderstood where you were going then my bad. As far as the "boys will be boys" and it is hard to keep them focused, I can get that and see that, but that is where the team leadership is supposed to come into play and if the leaders aren't focused, the rest of the team isn't either. I am not downing the team, just saying what i feel. We are both passionate about our teams and if and when the playoff game comes around, it will be a guaranteed great one, just like last year.

  39. Well said. Not sure I have ever seen a secondary official provide a contrary opinion to the primary official. As such, they're not going to overrule themselves just because there is video evidence. Have you ever seen the evaluation committee at the State Tournament? Its a dog and pony show. I have personally watched them observe very bad calls with not only bad judgement but misapplication of the rules. I never saw them corrected and the same official is rewarded for their ineptitude with a return trip to State the following season. Makes sense.

  40. Being surrounded by good people and then running them off, and losing friends in doing so, is nothing more than ego. Those coaches ARE the ones who quit on Brothers, and for good reason. Furthermore, if I were to give him the benefit of the doubt and agree that players quit on him, that would be an even bigger indictment on him as a coach. Coaches get fired all the time for not being able to get players to play for them. His real problem now, besides not being a good coach, is that he can no longer get good players to come to the school. That left when Montgomery left. I'm just wondering when he will wake up and realize it. There is little reason to play for him now, I can assure you that. Anyone playing 100 percent is doing so out of personal pride and for team, not for Brothers. Remember Denzel in "Remember The Titans" asking the player if football was fun, and the player replied "Zero fun?" That is NCS football right now. ZERO FUN!

  41. No sir. We hung in there close and I believe led early in the 4th quarter but they ended up beating us by a couple TDs. Our offense is more multi-dimensional this year than last year though and I really felt like at the end of the game that was why they pulled a way. They could load the box and keep us from sustaining long drives. We have a great QB this year that can sling it and is very accurate. I feel like this will be a high scoring game on both sides.

  43. Ways to practice against Meigs : practice getting ran over by a bus practice a foot race against Usain Bolt practice complaining to refs about opposing team getting 30 yds carry practice driving to Meigs and crying home practice running into a tree and dropping a football. practice watching Meigs in previous games to not get hypnotized in awe. practice mummification techniques. There will be bruises on your players. practice laughing at other peoples jokes as this is a good one.

  44. Humboldt returns four (4) starters & will again play a tough schedule against Haywood, Liberty, south Gibson, Obion, Martin west view & a tournament in Missouri! I think playing against bigger schools will only make Humboldt better & should have a deep bench. Also, will play a tough district schedule, Trenton lost all but one starter, the point guard who is the best player on their team. Middleton is always tough so you can never count them out!

  45. The average margin of victory in all Tennessee High School games on Oct.5 was 27.5. Not a very competitive product. They say concussions may be the downfall of high school football, but lack of quality games will be a major factor. Only 15 of the 125 games were single digit margins.

  46. I guess I have struck a nerve! Coaches do read this stuff, no matter what they say. My son, who played and graduated last year, went to the game today, and stood for a while with some of his buddies still playing this year on the sidelines. There were two other players from years past standing on the sideline as well. All of a sudden, Coach Anderson, who my son has always liked, came up to him and told him to get off the field. The other players from years past were allowed to stay. Its not too hard to figure out what went on. Brothers had someone else do his dirty work for him. Some of you who are new to the thread may be wondering why I have it out for the coach. The reasons are many, but the most recent reason is that he scolded a few players last week and told them that he will not have another group of seniors quit on him like last year and lose another state championship. There were no kids that quit on him. He is the reason for every close game we lost. Up by a score and going for it on fourth down on your own end of the field???? My son went down in the 4th quarter against Wayne Co. his junior year tore his labrum to shreds, and cracked the ball in his shoulder. Had surgery, came back and gave all he had his senior year at LB. He came of the field at Friendship (semi final game) totally exhausted and emotionally spent. This arrogant, pompous you know what has the nerve to talk about my son and his team mates that way? Oh yeah! I got it in for you coach, and I wont stop until I tell as many as I can about the lousy coach you are! Oh, btw, I dont think you will have the chance of losing a state championship this year.
