  1. I hate this for the girls. It’s a distraction they don’t need or deserve.

  2. What a 72 hour period. I could write a Chapter in a book regarding this situation. I have been on the phone with TSSAA for way too many hours. I have learned a lot as well. My coaches and players have learned a lot. One thing is for sure...moving forward I will strongly encourage my coaches to not just tell kids not to leave the bench area but to practice it. It's easy to just tell folks that but it needs to be repeated over and over with a code word. Just make sure the assistants use that word and everyone knows to stay put. Because if you don't practice the situation lots of times emotions take over. Now as far as the players on the floor. I strongly advocated that all players on the floor with the exception of WB 20, FHS 12, and FHS 3 be reinstated. WB #0, #5, and #11 simply tried to help their own teammate and get them out of the fray...just like FHS MVP #4 did. I was told by Bernard that they do not want any players trying to help. They want them out of the way so the officials and administrators can do their job. I see their point....but that is really hard for kids to do in the moment. As far as playing the remainder of the game tonight....that is the right thing to do. Play until the clock reads 0;00. Then shake hands and move on. And someone asked what does Farragut stand to gain? Well they can at least end their season on the floor and get an additional win tonight (barring a miracle), and get a substate berth which is big for Farragut. It doesn't happen all the time in basketball. The bottom line.....both schools have had a great season. Both schools have quality kids. The game got physical and this was the result. It is not a good result for anyone but it happened. Folks will serve their time and I will do my best to make sure that we do better if this happens again. Because the one thing that could have been easily avoided was leaving the bench. And we did not do that.

  3. They get loud. I will say this. You got four classy programs going at it. If I wasn’t a GC Fan, I could be a fan of any of the three. I hope you guys have a safe trip. Will be a war.

  4. They met early in the year at Black Horse. Gervacio came away with a 9-1 win in the semi-finals before going on to get a fall in the finals. I would say both of those guys really found strides at the end of the year as Gonzalez was able to turn around his earlier lose to Alvarez at Kansas City and beat him 2x (state and national preps) with bigger stakes on the line and Chew clearly coming through for his title. Given that they both met early this year and both showed strong improvement signs, I am sticking with Gervacio to win that match again. Then again I have some bias in there but like to think I can be pretty objective.

  5. Are the same officials going to be made to finish the mess they created? Or are they let off the hook? Nevermind. I hear they are being replaced. That says something.

  6. Question for you then, do you feel like the rule should just read there are no rules we will look at every situation as it comes up? There are guidelines put into place for a reason so teams know what they can do and what they cannot do. If the rule is any player who steps onto the court without being subbed in by the official gets DQ it's not a grey area. It also in the Rules that says even if a player doesn't engage in a fight or a gloried pushing match is what i would call this then they get an automatic DQ too. It's not like this rule has changed this year and has been around for a while.

  7. I was told by people there that the coaches stopped them near mid court. Either way a rule is a rule. It might have cost the Suns a NBA title when Amari Stoudemire stepped onto the floor when Steve Nash was pushed in the scores table against the Spurs. This rule has been around and every coach I know preaches it.

  8. I am Scott Cupp the AD at WBHS. I spent most of my day yesterday on the phone with TSSAA trying to get them to listen to myself and Coach Dodgen. The report made from the head referee was inaccurate. Here are the parts he missed: 1) All of WB bench emptied on the court. Uh..no..we had 3 players (#4, #24, #12) who do not even stand up. So these kids were ejected by the official. So when I told TSSAA this they said, "well you can appeal." I said I shouldn't have to. 2) The report also says that #5, #11, and #0 were ejected for "making contact with an opponent during a dead ball situation" and entering the altercation in an "aggressive manner." Uh...no...they did not make contact with an opponent. The TSSAA told me that I should appeal. I said I shouldn't have to. 3) The report says that Farragut #4 (District MVP) was ejected for "making contact with an opponent during a dead ball situation." Uh...no he did not. My argument with TSSAA was let's get myself, Coach Dodgen (Farragut AD), the official, and TSSAA on a zoom call yesterday and go over the film and discuss each player 1 by 1 and "get it right." They refused to listen. Here is what should have happened by the book. Farragut has left #13, #14, #4, and the one kid who did not leave their bench for a total of 4 players. WBHS has left #4, #24, #12, #5, #2, #11, #0 for a total of 7 players. We could have finished the game 5 on 4 if they wanted us to. However I told the TSSAA that we were fine not finishing the game. Farragut deserved the win and deserved a shot to advance. Then Farragut would be playing Bearden tonight with those 4 players plus they could bring up some JV kids to help with subs. Obviously it would be tough but at least they would have had a chance. Same thing for the Sub-State game. It would be tough but they still had some good players playing and may could pull it off. But at least they had a chance. I fought all day for Farragut because they are a good team with 6 seniors whose career should not be ended because of one official. However, the TSSAA refuses to listen to guys like myself (28 year educator/coach/administrator/AD) or Dodgen (35+year educator/coach/administrator, AD.) Instead they only listen to one official who provided an inaccurate report. What they have done to the Farragut kids is criminal. We can point fingers all day about who started what and why it happened. That doesn't really matter. It was an intense situation in an important game and sometimes emotions run high. I am proud of the administration at Farragut and WBHS and all of those in charge for quickly de-escalating the situation. No punches were thrown and no fans were on the floor. I have labeled it as more of a meet and greet....definitely not a fight or brawl. I will continue to work to get a better outcome for the kids....but my it sure is disheartening to try and get the powers that be in the TSSAA to cooperate. In all actuality, it's just plain sad.

  10. In Linden for a football game a few years back and ate at Hens and Hogs (loaded baked potato was pretty good). I don’t know how young Wayne County is but it does seem that they have made quite a bit of improvement in the last couple of years

  11. Bad thing about it is it is pretty obvious when someone is on it. If she was on it regularly users stay up for days and you start getting scabs and sores on your face and it messes with your teeth. You can’t control your emotions on it either and you make weird faces. I will be praying for her and RBS.

  12. I agree 110%. At one point in the season I was thinking Loretto might be the best team in the state regardless of class. I think they have went through a little lull, but any time you got Karly Weathers on the floor they have a shot. Same with Westview and Harrison. Both are phenomenal basketball players. If GC wasn’t playing, I would pay $100.00 to watch it. Maybe more. You don’t beat Oakland by 40 and not be great.

  13. Set the match up….rumor is there might be a opportunity soon. Let’s go Durdon…. how confident are you? and i don’t care about previous success. Corday is not the same wrestler as even a year ago. Corday vs Terrell Ill take the TN kid

  14. You are crazy if you say “it will not be that close”. I don’t see any chance of that being possible unless Loretto’s starters all foul out in the 1st quarter

  19. It's not a new thing, nor is it because of going to four classes. In the 80's and 90's Scotts Hill frequently had one of the best teams in the state, and never got there. It was a perennial thing for Bradford and Gleason to knock off the better between the two for their region, send the loser to Scotts Hill for sub state, win a barn burner at our place, then go dismantle everyone they face at Murfreesboro to win the gold ball. Fast forward to the present...Scotts Hill and Riverside will play a substate game that both can and probably should be favored to win, with teams that couldn't compete against our 80's and 90's teams. Similar situation with Jackson County and the old district 7. The system we have now does not guarantee that the best team wins, and for sure not that the second best gets silver...what it does guarantee is that the team that takes the gold ball home will have 100% earned it, and that's good enough.

  20. Agree that Gervacio is the cream of the crop at 182 rn. Chew has really impressed me how he came through sections and states, almost like he figured something out about himself that just makes him really hard to score on and he just picks up a point or two along the way. Omaury is a beast too. I've known him and watched him wrestle since he came to a Fairview tournament when he was probably in the 3rd/4th grade. He was built like a linebacker back then and just looks like a bigger version of that same kid I met way back when. Fun to watch all these kids and the sport of wrestling mature and evolve in TN.

  21. DB played fabulous. Were they intimidated by going to SH to play? Are you kidding...DB owns that court now...winning 4 out of the last 5 played in JC Coach Poore is a great HS Coach...Coach Daddy is pitiful and embarrassing at times, especially when he is behind...The SH PA guy is about that bad too Great win for the Indians Go Tribe beat Farragut and Go Bearden!

  24. I’m hearing 3 on 3, but I’m not official. Great post! The pictures say thousands of words on what happened. The WB AD has fought to try to right this wrong for a lot of kids. The Fairgut AD may have as well. It’s good to have such men looking out for interests of the kids. Well done!!

  25. Why do you want him to retire?? He is a good coach. He played predominantly 5 players last year at state and pressed the whole time and pushed all the right buttons.

  26. I 100% stand by this statement you made. The rule has been in place for years. I bet most people complaining about this rule would have no issue with it, if the rule was applied to any other team. As bad as it sucks, coaches and players are aware of this rule. People can complain all they want to, but it clearly states not only in the TSSAA handbook, but also in the NFHS rulebook as well. This rule would and should be applied to games in November just as much as in March.

  28. All of these people saying "rules are rules" is simply idiotic. This situation with (no punches thrown and no real fight taking place) is exactly why you never have a one size fits all set of policies or rules. It's the same with these idiotic "zero tolerance" policies that moron liberals just love to put into place in schools and workplaces. It's lazy and it takes out the responsibility to look at each situation and it's circumstances individually and make proper judicious decisions accordingly.

  29. It is a tragedy. One that wouldn't occur if TSSAA hadn't of divided the Memphis teams into 3 AA districts. And look how that has turned out.....they have three districts, yet one team didn't even have to play a region quarterfinal or a region semifinal to get to the Region 8 Championship Game (Manassas).

  30. I usually keep comments like this to myself, but not this time...nothing against other teams in this classification, but the two best teams in Tennessee will play to see who goes to Murfreesboro, and who goes home. Also, the two best players respectively in the classification will be represented. Should make for a great game, great atmosphere, and will be long remembered by those who see it, but at the same time it will be a tragedy. Wont be the first time or the last, but it's a shame that one of the absolute best teams in the state will not be represented.

  31. What I think doesn't matter, other than I think that TSSAA could do a better job of processing and evaluating this type of situation. Time is of the essence to teams when playoff implications are in consideration, and getting the final outcome "right" doesn't necessarily mean everything is well and good when you miss the post season. Now back to what I think, even though it doesn't matter...I get the feeling that you are determined to argue with me for some reason. I've made it pretty clear that rules are rules, and when there's video proving whether or not a player violated the rule, it should be pretty simple to apply the punishment to those who did. The video shown in this thread doesn't show both teams, but I guarantee you that there is video of everyone involved out there.

  32. pretty sure at 195 there were no seeds because only 1 was a returning placer and that was Atwood, everyone else is placed blind draw unless something has changed from the past.

  34. 195 is really incorrect. Hubbs wrestled Gabe Ferrell of Crockett twice. Lost both. One by pin (team sectionals), one by decision (individual sectionals). Zero chance Medina beats him as they have wrestled/trained together. Ferrell wrestled Atwood in the semis and lost in OT. Should have been the finals but no clue how seeding was done in that bracket as Ferrell beat the two seed as well. Ridiculous. Ferrell's only losses during the season was to out of state competition. He is real handful and will be back for a monster senior season.

  35. I would like to see Chew and Gervacio wrestle. The way Chew finished his season, he might give Gonzalez a very close match or even pull out a 1-pt win. He's def gained my respect with his grit the last 1/3 of the season and finding a way to win several close matches.

  38. That’s a lie. His first foul was called by the ball headed ref. Now When all the calls went for East Robertson against Pickett I didn’t hear anybody on here complaining about the refereeing so don’t start now I told you if ER tried to play Strong and Clay County up on them he was foul out the entire team and that’s pretty much what happened. The first two technical fouls that were given we’re the players fault. I can understand the coach getting a technical at that stage of the game but Clay was by far and away the best team on the floor. You can’t stay silent when you get all the calls in one game and then you don’t in the next, it doesn’t work that way. Like I said in the Pickett County game, the best team won, that’s the exact same thing that happened tonight. With two minutes to go in the game ER missed a layup that could have cut the lead to 10 and three of them walk down the floor. So I don’t wanna hear anybody getting on here and blaming the officials anymore because the best team won. Good luck in Van Buren County I have no doubt ER will win the game and be right where they wanted to be in the state tournaments in March.

  42. I would also add since it very important at this level. Coach for Clay County is better coach by a mile asked most sane ppl who watch East. Clay coach runs better sets, actually in sync on defense and thier coach is a much better game manager and motivator.

  43. East Rob has a really good team, especially on their home floor! Who’s the dummy’s that allowed that to happen? Does anyone think next years region tournament will be held in Celina or Byrdstown? If I was a coach in that district there is no way I’m giving my rivals home court. I’d have a neutral site gym with neutral officials. Last night they played ER’s run out songs , their player intro songs, even the announcers were biased towards ER. I thought this was a Region Tournament where everything was supposed to be neutral?

  44. No they do not. The other teams in this region run different offenses, but some do have the option in their arsenal.

This is AUDREY Madi mom and yall got your facts wrong. 1st off NO where on social media did I post anywhere about MADI not being wanted. 2nd nor did I post specifically about leaving lakeway, maybe you should STOP assuming something you know absolutely NOTHING about. 3rd idk who tide3838 or realdealmcneal123 are because you both want to hide behind a computer but you both need to keep MADI HAWK, LAKEWAY and anything related out of your mouth because you are starting rumors and drama-noone got time for that. If you got something to say or you want to know if we are leaving maybe try asking ME and only ME. 4. Madi does deserve miss basketball and the Gatorade nomination just as much as anyone does. She has young but great players around her that have helped her as she has helped them 5. And it's not hard to know anything and everything about a team when you can look it up on unapproved website... ACT LIKE ADULTS GROW UP STOP SPREADING LIES AND RUMORS ESP ABOUT MY DAUGHTER
