  1. You know my family was not affluent and my dad worked two jobs to support six people in our house. All of my siblings and l had no problem graduating from HS. Money is overrated in school, hard work and dedication is underrated.

  2. Yea that’s very hard to beat! Only question I have for Westview is what will happen if them 3’s not falling in Murfreesboro? I remember last year they wasn’t falling against Riverside but they didn’t have enough so it didn’t matter. I hope WV repeat but Alcoa & York are looking nice! Let’s see if West Tn can do a clean sweep, we let everyone down last year! Revenge season is almost here! We let west Tn down last year on the clean sweep 1A: McKenzie 2A: Gibson County, Westview 3A: Jackson South Side

  3. Those would be a group of Lipscomb Legacy parents, who stayed and didn't do to other privates (NCS, CPA, FRA) like some other Lipscomb Legacy parents kids did, whose kids weren't getting playing time at Lipscomb.

  4. What’s crazy is Mason placed at Beast of the East this year and to me, not being snobby, but is worth more than any TN medal. With that said anyone seeding the bracket that puts those two on same side should be fired and they should come up with a new seeding system. Kinda like the way they do the state duals. I grew up wrestling in Michigan and our high school duals tournaments were seeded according to who the best teams were, not what place you got in a region. They need a new seeding system, badly. There are people that actually know wrestling and know these kids pretty good. I’m sure a committee could be put together to see things the way they should be seeded.

  5. Last season, Unaka played at South Greene and got clobbered. Lyndie Ramsey had not suited-up because she was injured. Later last season, SG paid Unaka a visit and lost because Ramsey was playing once again. Last night, I made it a point to go to the SG/Unaka game, because I still had not seen Ramsey play in person. She is a great player possessing heart, confidence, aggressiveness and a mind for the game. She has a bright future at the next level. I wish her the very best!

  7. its like kids have all lost any idea of situational awareness, state duals I wrestled a kid that was so much better than I was. I just kept shooting shots and hanging on for dear life. When on bottom made sure I didnt get turned and at the end of the day a kid that prob should have majored me ended up beating me 3-2. We ended up tied that dual and sadly we lost on criteria many moons ago because out team got pinned 1 time more. Listened to a dad the other night, told his son, give up the tech, give up a major, but DO NOT get pinned, he went out and got pinned.

  8. I believe in team scoring (a course) but a jr. high coach almost 60 years ago preached negative team scoring, not getting pin or today not getting majored or teched. If your getting teched, work to keep it a major. A lost art today when you see all the pins. Great job going old school with your young grapplers.

  9. Sad thing is, they could both be on the same side of the bracket, since Mason is a freshman he wont be seeded and Chase is a defending state champ and should be seeded 1st, but after that its just thrown together with any other returning placers that win regions and such also seeded.

  10. Previous reply had a question about 195 mentioning Demorest having beaten Woodard. I wanted to shed a little more insight on this weight and the rankings there. There is a bit of a 3-way issue in head-to-head with the following: 1) Demorest over Woodard 2) Woodard over Gentle 3) Gentle over Demorest So I am giving Woodard the edge out of this group given that he and Demorest were both 5th last year but Woodard was at the heavier weight. That said, I expect Demorest to be seeded ahead of Woodard at the West Region since matches with Gentle won't come into play there. In my opinion, this is one of the most wide open weights we have in DII. Trainer has definitely earned the #1 spot but beyond that it is very interesting. You have a returning 4th place medalist at this weight (Brunet, FR) who isn't in the rankings right now. Both region tournaments should be really interesting at this weight.

  13. I met Coach Rang the other night at the basketball game and my first impression was very favorable. I think he is going to win at Oak Ridge and be here for a while. He is the next generation coach that Oak Ridge needs.

  18. I'll bet the farm on the kid who works for what he gets over the kid who has it handed to him every time. I want the best for mine and for them to have it easier than I did...I have worked very hard behind the scenes to make what I gave them look easy at times but made sure at times that they understood what sacrifices were made for them to have it as easy as possible. Above all, they were taught that they usually got exactly what they earned and nothing more. We owe it to our youth to ensure that they're as ready as possible to be productive citizens when we hand them that diploma, and that means using the finances we have available as best we can for them, and that we should teach them the value of effort and focus on the future.

  19. It goes deeper than a bunch of "jocks" caring more about athletics than academics and old guys trying to re live their glory days through high school players stacmot, yet that's the opinion of a lot of the uneducated general public will adopt when you start the discussion about paying/supporting coaches and spending to upgrade facilities. The truth is that the same qualities that separate an average coach from a great one also make a great educator...not to mention the opportunity for those 12 young men to further their education while living out their dream of playing football. Odds are (as good as they are) that in a few years football will be behind those kids, yet they will carry the benefits of the education that they receive for their lifetimes. When more people understand how beneficial athletic programs really are and the positive influence that kids who participate experience, maybe it will get easier to justify the dollar amount that it takes to run a strong program.

  20. I really have never based my life on chance or statistics. If l did that l would be in jail or dead. Grew up with people that have done both. Best friend murdered at 20. Friends in and out of jail. People can overcome their circumstances. I have also seen people that l went to HS with that had total monetary support and potential and they are dead, in jail or down and out. Some how we have to get back to a old and lost American theory, Rugged Individualism.

  23. ILB, while we’re at it, name me another school in this state who has sent their girls and boys basketball teams, as well as their football team to the state championship in the past 8-10 years. I can’t think of one myself, but maybe you can? Yeah, sadly, we lost each time, although we were oh so close in both boys and girls basketball. Still, I don’t think any other public school in Tennessee can claim that feat, that I’m aware of?

  24. Are we talking about academics here or sports? We can dispute the whole sports thing, sure, but I don’t think the academic aspect of it is up for much debate. OR has ALWAYS been a top public academic school in the state, anybody knows that that knows anything about academics in this state. As far as sports go, sure we’ve struggled by our standards in football in recent memory, although we have been to the state championship in 2005 and 2020, although we lost, we were still there. There’s a lot of teams out there that would love to say that. Historically, OR has been very successful in just about every sport we have, although I wouldn’t include baseball as one of those (we have had some really good teams, but not great), but we have won state championships in just about every sport we have. Some not in recent memory (I don’t think we have won a title in anything since 2011), but they still count regardless. Just go to the gym to watch a basketball game, all the banners are hanging up there for you to see, ya can’t miss ‘em, brother. Besides Brentwood and Farragut, OR has the most state championships in all sports as any other public school in the state. How you can equate that to not being high performing is beyond me, but to each their own, I reckon.

  25. I get where you are coming from, but the first thing you have to do to win games is get kids and people excited and believing you can win games. With excitement comes fresh players and transfers. If Bradley Central has 5-7 receivers and throw it 10 times a game, how many looks is a kid gonna get with 15 receptions and 110 yards on the season? You can bet Mom and Dad are moving Jr to a school where he has a chance to showcase his talent. Get a couple receivers signed to college and all of a sudden the train starts rolling. Look what Creasy has done for running backs at Oakland. As soon as one leaves 1 or 2 transfer in. That said I got laid off yesterday after a long time with my company. So when you talk about someone's merit I defer back to what the ole Cowboy said about the ole grey mare. She is worth exactly what someone is willing to pay for her.

  28. Its funny how people continue to say Metro is dead and thats its only a few good teams etc. Metro continues to have more representives in the state title games than any other district . Metro does more with less. Of course everyone isnt good but if we are being honest neither is everyone in other districts neither. Its more kids and more schools so of course the talent is not spread out equally. Demographics play a big role in that . Antioch, Glencliff, OVerton are loaded with students who think football mean soccer. HL , WC, have 3 charter schools with in 10 miles from them. Hillwood loses its kids to private schools and too far from their zone side of town of north nashville. Open zoned crushed the abilty for all schools to compete. Times have changed its not the same but lets not act like these county schools are all HR hitters. Imagine if Metro top schools had resources and a district that cared the projectory of the the district would change. In RUCO Oakland is the only team thats just dominant, Ravenwood / Brentwood for WIlliamson, No one from Wilson, and Beech for Sumner so looks to me metro has way more competing for championships than any other county. Look at the success that some of those outside counties have been having , they are led by metro kids nobody speaks on that of course. You give me CR PC EN HB MC vs any county I bet Metro comes out at least .500

  29. It was a comparison of the two jobs, Einstein, and in reference to Rang applying for both jobs. And here's a newsflash for you: Coaches are teachers first, so, yeah - the pay question is relevant. And Oak Ridge is the top paying system in the state, and that's not up for debate.

  30. The rule is in place to protect kids. I saw the video and Griggs clearly hit his head hard and both officials agreed immediately that the return was illegal. Injury time is only 1.5 minutes. There is no way to be sure that a 16-17 year old kid is ok during that short window of time,. especially when trying to evaluate a possible head injury. It doesn't make the kid a chickens**t or a coward at all. Its a good rule.

  33. A - Ramsey (Unaka), Baugus (Wayne Co) Davis from McKenzie would be the obvious third but she really should not win it this year after being injured for so much of the season AA - Harrison (Westview), Beatty (York) Third player could be Haworth (Alcoa) or Hart (Gibson Co) or Newman (Gatlinburg) AAA - Collins (South Side), Powers (White Co), Johnson (Upperman), Bailey (Greeneville), Burgess (Creek Wood) Any combination of those five would be worthy AAAA - Berry (Clarksville), Collier (Bartlett), Treadwell (Bearden) Lot of worthy players in AAAA, but I think these three are hard to argue against

  36. Thanks for the post, soms. I'll be pulling for Luciano to win it all this year. Her sister worked for me on a few business projects and introduced me to Ana a couple of years ago. It's been fun following her career at King, she's a great role model for HS girls competing in the sport and excited about the growth she's seen from our TN girls wrestling programs.
