  1. Very impressed with Powell QB. His accuracy on the long ball was outstanding and the last TD throw was tremendous. The freshman WR # 9 had a tough night for Powell but my goodness that guy has some bigtime talent- can definitely see why high major programs are already all over him. Oak Ridge is much better than a 5-4 record indicates. They have really improved over the course of the year. They can play with and beat anybody in 5A on a given night, IMO.

  5. I'm not trying to argue that one is harder than the other. Like I said earlier, play-by-play can be a tough gig. I've spent enough time in the booth at both the high school and college level to know that a little bit of preparation goes a LONG way. But my goodness, when you listen to many of these DCM broadcasts, it feels like someone simply showed up to the stadium 5 minutes before kickoff, with zero knowledge of the teams on the field, and attempted to do the play-by-play. Maybe I'm just spoiled by HTV, but after working the booth with him for the years that we did, he provided a great example of how you prepare for a broadcast, at any level.

  6. I wish David Clary (OR play by play guy) could do it. None of 'em are as good as ole Dave.

  8. I think Greenback is the perfect model for how to make this work. Kids flocking there and Loudon county has to restrict students from other counties, including Blount county which actually has kids with Greenback addresses inside the blount county line, from attending. If Loudon County removes that restriction about 10-12 more football players from south Blount would be transferring to GB every year. that's about an additional 40 FB players on a 1A football team

  14. y’all have a tough front and a good qb. I didn’t see enough from anyone else to make me think y’all can win against the top 3a teams but I do think you have the talent to compete. Good luck to you all and I hope the bees can make a run

  15. Great game tonight. I was pulling for Oak Ridge because they feel like our brother from another mother over here in Maryville. I swear Jackson reminds me of O.J.Simpson the way he runs. That kid is going to be big time.

  18. What about your d lineman faking a cramp?? It was the worse acting job I have ever seen. I was watching it on Facebook and couldn’t believe it! You also had twelve on the field that last kick. Either way it was a great game!

  21. I agree about us (OR). I mean, I would’ve loved to win this game, but as young as our team is compared to Powell, I feel good coming out of this game. We just put up nearly 250 yards rushing on arguably the best defense in East Tennessee (at least) in 5A. Whoever plays us better strap it up, because we’re getting better by the week.

  23. He taught so much compassion..honor and integrity to a 2 win season so far. Let me share a secret with you. That don't mean bull crap in Jasper. They will run your butt off if you don't even have losing season. I know!!...All this integrity crap means nothing!!! Win games with whatever you have!!! That's the Jasper way...you don't have to believe me...ask the bigwig back stabbers!! They will smile at him while they dig that knife in his back....all your saying about great coaching is crap to the people that makes decisions!!! Jasper sucks! Don't know tonight score but I'd be surprised the compassionate..integrity mighty warriors will win against Silverdale...thats right...silverdale!!!

  24. Expose T$$AA??? Heck the expose themselves every time they supposedly do an investigation. Just like with other schools in Memphis. If it walks like a duck, sounds like a duck then QUACK QUACK.

  25. Yeah, I've been in press boxes that moved when the wind blew, ones where the tables were covered in bird guano, on scissor lifts in the rain, one place where the roof I was on was about to cave in, and in the middle of the crowd during a windy playoff game. As bad as some of those were, my dad filmed from places that were a whole lot worse.

  26. I have looked at several playoff possibilities and not one of them have Freedom Prep in it. The very first report of all this said if Prep had filed the right paperwork at the beginning of the season then maybe this could have been avoided. They didn't so they got caught and punished end of story. Not the kids fault. The adults running things at Prep are in the wrong. Prep's name has come up every year since joining the TSSAA and not in a positive way.

  27. Actually most of the guys who do college games have other broadcasting responsibilities, as well. Either with local stations or with the networks that they broadcast games for. Very few are just Saturday play by play guys. And almost all of the color guys do color as a weekend gig and they have other jobs, as well. Same with the guys who work on the production crews. Bottom line - it's just like anything else. If you put in the necessary prep work you'll do a good job. If you try to fake it, it's not hard for viewers/listeners to figure out. It really doesn't take a lot of extra time to be prepared. Most of the high school broadcasters I know in this state have other jobs, yet they make the time to get prep work done and be ready to do a professional job for their listeners. It's about prioritizing that the time is important enough to find for game prep.

  28. FREE schools that follow the rules, work hard to do things the right way. FREE school systems that hire adults that can follow directions and don’t try to cheat the system to get ahead so their children don’t suffer the consequences of greedy adults.

  30. Maybe we've just been spoiled with guys like Dave Clary, Russell Mayes, and HTV, but there are people in the community who would be an upgrade.

  31. Agreed. I don't want to take away from what they are trying to do, but it's rough. No offense to him, but the guy that has called the bulk of the Powell games really struggles each and every week. Play-by-play can be a tough gig, especially without a color commentator, but DCM would almost be better off providing a video stream with no commentary if that's the best they can do.

  32. That's just the nature of the beast. Another decent Region 5 team will not make the playoffs. Possibly Mt Pleasant. But with all they had returning have no one to blame but themselves. I'm not a fan of the Zplan. I make no bones about it. I'd rather see teams make the playoffs according to the games the TSSAA mandates they HAVE to play instead of teams scrambling to find easy wins. Not a perfect format and honestly what would be?

  34. The red portion is the caveat. If it is applicable, and in this situation thay are saying that it is the case, then it doesn't matter if he played at Fairley last season, he's eligible. Get it?

  39. yeap I am with you...but it does do a number on the fields. I know our coaches spend a lot of time keeping ours nice. They aint the high crowned pothole filled cow pastures we grew up playing on in the 80s for sure. Can't blame em for not wanting to mess them up if not necessary

  40. I haven't seen either team since the opening two weeks, as we are back in Florida until the holidays, but based on what I saw then, I'll go with the Tribe by 2+ TD. Obviously, the litmus test will be next week vs Alcoa. Regardless, hats off to the coaching staff and players for what they've done.

  41. Really, I am gonna call it as I saw it Friday night. TN high played a lil harder and wanted it a lil more than we did. Was there a call late that hurt us, yes. But they beat us, tip ya cap and move on.

  42. Yikes, I doubt OR can keep it close if Powell scores 35. Our offense probably would have little time on the field. I am hoping for a score like 22 - 21 Oak Ridge. Keys for OR are the usual ones: 1. Block & Tackle 2. Always get back up when knocked down 3. Limit turnovers 4. Powell picks up a lot of penalties. They had a bunch of penalty yards against West.
