  1. I don't know about who was the better team or not. Both teams were fairly even in my view. Whitwell, Cornersville, South Pittsburg, Greenback and Huntingdon were all narrowly close. It was a very good season for the fans coming down the stretch. When was the last time if any that we can say 5 teams were so close? That's why winning it this year is so special and not winning it is so heartbreaking.

  2. # 2 played linebacker like he was 6'2 240. He was sure fun to watch on defense.

  3. Something that Gallatin, Hendersonville, and Beech can agree on, no coaching change needed at Station Camp.

  6. Yeah, but y’all have won 482911 state championships. Cornersville has been in the basement for close to a century. That’s what makes it rough. We may never get there again. I know we have a TON of young talent coming up and on the current team, but a lot can change... Maybe for the good.... Maybe for the bad.... We had our opportunity on a silver platter and botched it. I’m not blaming one thing on the refs. We didn’t cut Whitwell’s heads off when we had the chance. It sucks. And I’m guessing by reading some of the comments that some are blaming Coach Randolph??????? Hopefully not Cornersville fans. They should put a statue up of that man in every unoccupied space on the Cornersville campus.

  7. Yes, I’m sure Coach Bouldin jotted down all your Whitwell related posts on this website over the past two years. I actually think that was the edge in the game Saturday.

  12. At this point it’s all irrelevant, but I will say I saw a picture of Whitwells #4 displaying some first class sportsmanship after the final play, by helping our #10 back to his feet and embracing him.

  13. McConnell is a good coach lot of great qualities but he is young and still learning. There was alot that went on this year lot of toes stepped on. To me that is football. I want the best for All these kids and I expect it. This is a team sport and I know Mc wants the best for them and he has been fitting and up hill battle he just needs to know a lot of people are trying to help him off the field more than he knows with the outside stuff. Seams like most get butt hurt overy individual stuff we need to pull together for the team. NO ONE CAN DO IT ALONE.

  16. The word is synergy. Their combined effect is greater than the sum of their separate effects. Some teams have it; most teams do not. It's not just this group. Wait until this year's middle school team is sophomore and juniors.

  17. They looked cohesive. Like a colony of ants. Prolly bad analogy but I've always been fascinated and impressed as to how well a colony of ants work so well together and the sacrifices they make as a whole for the main goal.

  18. This is what I really like about the last few years in college football.I would get so mad when the Rose ,Sugar, and Orange bowls would have those crap matchups and the biased media and coaches would then pick two or three national champs.Love to see them extend it to eight teams. You take last year and Alabama compared to 25 years ago in the same situation. They would have been playing a crap bowl game for pride. If they had gone to Eight teams, Georgia wouldn't have been penalized this year for the SEC championship loss. This thread is much like 25 years ago and voting.Oakland would have gotten the srews because of their loss to Maryville earlier.Cpa ,Alcoa and Greeneville would have taken a hit for not destroying 100% of their opponents. If any of these top 10 teams played a perfect game and forced a few turnovers,PLUS maybe a few more factors. There is no doubt they could run any other team off the field.Oakland is without question one of the best teams I seen this weekend and without question the perfect example of what I'm saying.

  19. 12 carries for 50 yards with 36 yards coming on one run. 2 receptions for 18 yards. 2 completions for 18 yards and one TD. There were several top players on the field Saturday for both teams. #31 wasn't head and shoulders above everyone else out there. The Whitwell D was a huge part of the win and #4 was involved on almost every big defensive play. If I was picking teams after watching that game #22 would be the first player taken.

  22. The possession after the big sack HC was 3 and out for 0 yards. That was probably the result of the sack. Wind behind them the 1st qtr and in their face qtr 2 and 3 was a factor on throwing the ball. You think they would have passed as often and effective in 2 and 3 qtr as the first? against a 20-30 mph wind? 4th qtr started with 1 incomplete pass and 4 straight rushes for 30 yd and TD. This was not directed specifically at you Kevin (i enjoy your post), but for those that always question a coaches play calling after a game. All in all it was a great game by 2 great teams, and Central made a couple of extra plays to win it.

  23. All the polls are fun and at least get some people interested and talking about wrestling. Lord knows the state could use more coverage of the sport.

  30. This is from Kermit Reed of Huntland: I wanted to do this last week but didn't want to be a prisoner of the moment. Eli Woodard of Cornersville High School is one of the Top 3 best HIGH SCHOOL football players I've ever coached against. I'm not saying the best college prospect because I've coached against Golden Gate and several other good college players. Eli Woodard is a kid that if his team needed 4 yards on 4th down.... he'd get 6!!!! Last season he played in the last 3 games of the season with a broke leg!!!!! This year on the opening kickoff of the state championship game...he tore up his AC joint on his throwing arm but that man had 200 yds all purpose! Congratulations on a great career and He , Roger Herndon, and Jared Elliott are in my Top 3.

  36. TSSAA set the rules for transferring schools within the state. Any argument should be with TSSAA, not the schools accepting kids that follow those rules and transfer. We paid a heavy price several years ago for not following those rules. Hasn’t happened since and we get transfers every year. We had 3 kids that started last year at another private school that sat out their Sophomore year this year to become eligible at Grace. That’s a huge price to pay when they could’ve stayed and played all 4 years at the other private school. They and their family chose a different path. Who am I to judge them or ridicule them for their decision? I think I’ll just keep lining up those weekly spa appointments for them

  38. Let me nip all this in the bud once and for all. I probably shouldnt have made the "life lesson" remark in my original post so, to that I appologize to coach Hookfin, should he stumble across this stuff. Secondly, sure, kids say stuff they shouldnt and i was no different. Heck Im half a century old and still say stupid things ( see life lessons remark). I guess i have just been conditioned to think everyone should say "thank you" when a compliment or well wishes are handed out.As far as the F U M F'ers comment, as i stated before, I'm standing my gound on that one. In my opinion it was wrong, but that's it....no harm no foul, i was just pointing out an observation of mine during the day. Maybe I should have just kept my opinion to myself, but as most people know, I have no filter and Im usually going to say what's on my mind, right wrong or indifferent. My "life lessons'' comment was made at the moment i was was typing my original post and at the time, it was what came to mind, based on the experience i was referencing. I certainly dont think those kids are "Taught" to ignore people or to ignore people who are wishing them luck, it just took me by surprise and stuck with me for a while so i said what was on my mind at that moment. Much like many issues and many incidents in life, ive had several days to think about it and to redirect my thoughts on it. That's why I'm making this final post on the matter. AGAIN, best of luck to the Tcat players, coaches, parents, staff and everyone involved with that program moving forward. Please accept my humble appology for making a false assumption about what is being taught by the Haywood coaches. Merry Christmas, Happy new year and hope to see you all in Cookeville again next year.

  41. I think as sports fans we could argue just about anything . We are number 2 !,No ! we are number 2 !!. Your not a top three team because we were hurt in September !! Yes, somebody has to be the first loser .Good thing is about ten or twenty schools in 6A will have a legit chance starting ( right now ) in off season workouts to dethrone Oakland.Best of luck to all of your seniors as they take on the real challenging part of life.

  42. We have a couple that didn't play this year if they decide to come back it will make a big difference. Brier Johnson is one he is 6 4 or 6 5 fast great hands and tough as they come

  43. As does the county schools as well. So what point are you proving. Everyone raves about Blackman and their staff and all these county school coaches but they've only made the semis once I believe so once again Metro coaches accomplish a lot more . Outside of Oakland, Indy, Ravenwood, Beech these so called highly thought of schools are not accomplishing much more than Metro schools

  45. I have really been impressed with Mckenzie, not saying they are the best team around, just wanted to comment on the improvement they have made, they have a legitimate shot of winning their district. GC,TCA,Peabody all look solid ,with GC already posting very impressive wins !that’s going to be a great district tournament this year. Greenfield obviously is still very very good once they get healthy. Moore and Darby sisters are very impressive. I look for Dresden to settle in and be very good come tournament time. Not much talk about Gleason, with Atkins and a healthy Anderson they could be scary by the end of the year.Coach Stephenson will have them ready. Should once again be the toughest region top to bottom in the state.
