  1. 1. Oakland vs Summit. I enjoyed watching Jordan James, Antonio Patterson and the Wade Twins. Only thing I didn't like is Jordan James and the Wade Twins aren't going to Tennessee. 2. Elizabethon vs Tullahoma. I was interested in this game because of former Maryville Rebels Football player and coach John Olive. Glad to see John Olive go out on top. 3. Powell vs Page. Both teams were exciting to watch. 4. South Pittsburgh vs McKenzie. Great game and glad to see South Pittsburgh win after their coach left them. Other 2 games were beatdowns.

  2. Most probably won’t care about this, but maybe someone will find it interesting. Prior to 1990, Georgia had only 4 classes (unlike Tennessee in Georgia you don’t have separate classes for football and other sports.) You had 8 regions in each class, Regions 1-4 were South Ga., 5-8 North Ga. The North and South champions met in the state final. Starting in 1990, the playoffs expanded and you went North vs. South in the semifinals. A couple of years later, you went in the quarterfinals. Now, outside of Round 1 where you rotate opening with a different North region each year, North-South means nothing. You can play a South Ga. team in Round 2. There are now 8 sets of playoffs in Georgia, due to 1A being divided in half. The growth of Metro Atlanta has changed things as well. In Class 7A, there is only one South Ga. region, and it only contains 5 schools. The rest of the regions are all Metro Atlanta schools. Years ago, a program I was with played a team from our region in the state semifinals. There have been several times when 2 teams from the same region met in the state championship game. Every state seems to do playoffs different. In the 80’s, the Ringgold and Rossville girls basketball teams played 6 times in one season, 2 regular season games, Thanksgiving tournament, sub-region championship, region championship, state championship game. Ringgold won the first 5, only to lose the most important one, the state championship game.

  3. The only peeps that WANT Rankin gone are Alcoa haters. Most are Murvul clowns that just want to spew crap because they are miserable in their current situation and lack of any foreseeable improvement. The future of Alcoa football is in its current assistant coaching staff. None of us are getting any younger and the topic of Coach Rankin retiring has been something on the minds of the Alcoa faithful for a couple years now.

  4. You clowns are on here arguing with BC about Alcoa football? Comical. Coach Rankin is second to none when it comes to discipline. Coach Nix, Gamble and the rest of the crew have been under him for years. He has groomed them during that time to be ready to take over the program when the time comes. That’s what good head coaches do! There isn’t anyone that I know of that you idiots claim can’t stand Rankin. Everyone is fully aware of his accomplishments as one of the greatest high school coaches in the country. He’s definitely done more for the Alcoa program than Hunt has done, or will ever do, at Murvul. So, you peeps can continue to wish and dream, but the fact is Alcoa will continue to be Alcoa for a very long time. We all have coach Rankin to thank for that!

  5. I've heard first hand on 2 occasions a parent mention a kid out of state they know that's moving to town and a kid in town that would like a better opportunity where TD said the parents must first contact the school just like any other kid looking to come to the school. I also agree with the post about success is attractive. The best "recruiters" are the parents and players that are having a positive experience at the school. They are constantly talking about how good the program is. The 7x7 and camp world creates a great venue for fellow players to say, "hey, you're good, come to Lipscomb." Good players want to shine on good teams. They also want to win. It's no different than successful businesses attract the resumes of top graduates. In addition, the names people reference about out of state "recruits" don't know the family circumstances that moved them here. Perhaps that would be a great story of its own. Also, they don't realize that those families that moved to Nashville because it's a great job market researched and toured the schools that typically would have gotten those student athletes. Creating an accepting culture, a coaching staff and team that's diverse is attractive to all types of families. I've been in churches for a long time that beat themselves up about the lack of diversity. It has to be intentional and an administration, Elder/Deacon, leadership team that's reflective of your mission. Attracting people from all walks of life, economic, religious, racial prepares the student body for the next step and opens the door for student athletes that are not just homegrown in the church that have been there since pre-k. All this has to be done while holding high standards, but from what I've seen if you set the bar high, the kids will strive with all they have to achieve it. You want people to join your journey at any stage of life and that goes for your church or your school. While I love the deep rooted core group of many years, you have to ask yourself why do we not have more families jumping on the train somewhere between pre-k and 12th grade. I believe a previous poster said something like 20 of 25 CPA seniors were homegrown and nearly lifers at the school. With the explosion of people moving to Nashville from all walks of life and the growth of wealth you would think there would be a larger group joining the train along the way. All that said, Lipscomb has a great thing going. Kids have a greater focus on their grades, the bodies and their souls. The support structure is being invested in to make it sustainable and I would imagine it will continue to attract a great group of kids.

  6. I know very little about East Tenn, but in West Tenn it seems that McKenzie, Gleason, and Greenfield are all really good. I’ve seen both Gleason and Greenfield and each team has a dominant lead guard, but I’ve yet to see McKenzie. I’m going to watch some games in middle Tenn when I get the opportunity. I’m interested see some action in District 9 and 10

  7. Greenback had co-HC’s before Greg Ryan, I know Oneida had co-HC’s for a time after Coach May Sr. died during the season in the ‘90’s. I remember a few others over the years it seems. Not common but typically follows a sudden loss of an HC during a season where little to no time to find a permanent replacement. I’ve never saw it continue beyond a second season, usually it’s just a partial season band-aid fix to finish a season but occasionally it will continue the next year, after that typically a more conventional solution is found.

  8. Good list. South Gibson TCA would be a good game and are close, IMO. Hard to judge Westview because of their schedule. McKenzie is a good team. Just need more inside presence.

  9. Streak-A series of consecutive successes. Meaning, more than one. Not sure I agree. Looking at the size advantage Tully had on both sides of the line, and how difficult it was for them to do anything all day long, and how limited BOTH teams were, I’d say it was pretty even, maybe tilted to E-Town 51% to 49%? A lot of people thought Tully would bully us with their size and athleticism. Which they had in droves! Didn’t happen. The Betsy boys showed grit, technique and toughness. When it comes down to it, coach Olive nailed it on his last show, the 5th Quarter. Tully made 1 more play than Betsy did. That’s the only difference. If Betsy would have pulled it off, coach Olive would have been answering questions about why he didn’t kick a field goal on 4th and goal from the 1near the end of the game. And again, he said as much on his show. But, it’s a mute point. The winner doesn’t have to rethink its decisions and the 2nd place team will never stop thinking about them. Another life lesson brought to you by the greatest game in sports. Who was more physical? Not necessarily the winner I say.

  10. The Jackson Sun is what it is......I don't use those words. Here's the "real" rankings and I watch a lot of ball and know the team makeups. 1. Gibson County 2. Westview 3. South Side 4/5. McKenzie or South Gibson 6-10: the Rest

  11. I used to think chow wagon would close cause the previous owner was getting up there in age. A couple of years ago she sold to a younger couple and so it looks like chow wagon will be in business for a long time to come. In fact…. I may go there for dinner tonight. Lol.

  12. What does the word " Good " mean? In 2020, OR finished second in the state. That is good to me. Now, after one season OR is no longer " good." I don't understand.
    1 point
  13. No, you are correct, we do have a a guy (for now) that teaches at Norwood and we have a couple of retired volunteers. Then, we have certified teachers in the bldg that do coach at OR. And we have 3 (4 at times) in the building that take home a OR paycheck and then go coach against us. Right now, we have 5 teaching positions being held by coaches for other teams or by former OR coaches that were not retained. This is really making it difficult to get a decent coach in. Who would take this job if they can't bring any of their guys with them? I know it's a problem everywhere and a tough puzzle to solve. As we've said many times this silly season, this is when we find out if our admin, school board and city leaders are willing to do what it takes and make the changes necessary for OR football to be good at football again. We have the roster, that's a plus.

  14. I think Powell will be in the conversation, but there's no way their front 7 will be as good next year without Nolen. Henry County is my way-too-early pick.

  15. This right here. Page was a good football team, but their success was heavily based on McNamara

  16. If that is a Jackson Sun poll your looking at I wouldn’t pay any attention to it. They only had a small article when Gibson County won the state in 2019. They know very little about basketball in West Tennessee. They only report who they like. Having South Side and TCA way down the list is a sure enough red flag.

  17. Congratulations to Caden Buckles. 3A Mr. Football Winner! Alcoa quarterback Caden Buckles won the Class 3A award over Waverly Central's Jacob Dooley and Loudon's Keaton Harig. Buckles completed 75% of his passes for 1,382 yards and 18 touchdowns to three interceptions, to go with 239 yards rushing and seven TDs.

  18. We don't have assistants that teach at other schools. We have teachers that coach at other schools. (taking up teaching positions and preventing us to bring in quality coaches at Oak Ridge) . This last sentence sums it all up in a nut shell. period. end of story. Oak Ridge being good at football used to be a priority of our city leaders, our school board and our administration. Unfortunately that is no longer the case. And, here we are.

  20. Coach Rankin inherited a program that was in great shape. The feeder programs were in great shape and still are. Coach Reid was another excellent coach that brought in some of the best assistants in the state. Fortunately, some are still very much involved with the program. Again, when the time comes, coach Nix will be well suited to continue the tradition at Alcoa. It’s okay to continue to laugh at your Murvul kinfolk, as most are still butthurt over their string of not making it to the BIG game.

  22. It has certainly become a great rivalry in my opinion. Odds are strong that we will see you guys again next year at Ray Hughes Stadium here in the Boro. My gut feeling is that Maryville will be improved next year by quite a bit and Oakland will probably be down some from this year. But who knows what will happen with transfers and whatnot.

  23. Those teams were good no doubt. I recall Lindsey and company but your comparing apples to oranges kinfolk. Your success has blinded you from reality. I’m just keeping it real

  24. Happy for Tullahoma! Special season for y’all kinfolks! What a game. Both teams played their guts out. Multiple OT’s for all the beans you hate for either team to lose but somebody had too. I’m just keeping it real

  27. Not a diss to the Lady Rebels, but they're not in that category yet. They're definitely good and I think they'll be a lot better as the season goes on. I know that we're pretty solid and we take care of the ball, have scorers, and play a style that makes other teams uncomfortable. Wilkins will always have us prepared for any team. Westview just reloads and brings the next one or two up every year from Jr High and they have a Junior in Harrison that is being sought by several big D1 powerhouse programs and they've added a freshman to their arsenal that scored over 20 the other night and is on the US National Softball Team. GC and WV are deep this year and I don't think the Rebels have the depth to match. Like I said, not a diss, but an honest observation.

  29. Have to say I hope the Bluecross bowl stays in Chattanooga for many many years. I thought the overall facilities were head and shoulders above Cookeville. Resturants within walking distance, the way the stadium is it has more of a high school game feel. Overall I was highly impressed with how Chattanooga handled it.

  32. I was rooting for McKenzie just because they put my team out but I have met some good people from SP over the years and following them this year I could tell that bunch started improving mid season through the end. With all that team went through I can honestly say they came together and earned it. Says a lot for the coaches that held them together and the players for believing. Last year they was the team to beat but this years team really got after it. Was a great game to watch. Congrats to the entire SP community. Well deserved. They was without a doubt the most improved team from start to finish this year.

  33. This will be an interesting off season once again for Sp. I fully believe if Stone /Grider combo want the job it will be very hard to say no( unless there are some unknown reasons). This season is one of very few that you can say Sp won the gold that coaching greatly attributed too. That was a phenomenal job by the entire coaching staff and the players executing their game plan. Either way I hope they make the decision sooner rather than later. The 22 season starts now. The strength and conditioning program in the off season is just as important as the x's and o's.

  34. As Cleveland was coming off the field at Baylor following an all day scrimmage one year, a reporter asked Benny Monroe “Coach, did you get anything out of this today?” His reply “Yep, we got hot, I’m about to burn up!”

  37. “IF” a new head coach is hired that is on the top of his game he should demand the following: 1. New strength & conditioning coach 2. Defensive coordinator 3. Offensive coordinator 4. OL coach 5. DL coach Personally I would not take the job unless I could bring in a minimum 5 or 6 assistant coaches. If Oak Ridge really wants to win they will take the necessary steps in allowing the football program to be successful

  39. I'm not falling for that mess rlh. You no that everybodys season is over but out of all the teams in 1A South Pitt's season lasted longer than anybodys. Now its time for Roy to send the goat out and pegleg and power p to gas up the plane. You no I ain't joking neither. On a serious note, I didn't fall for that 21 point 'dog business either...too much pride and tradition in South Pittsburg for that. Everyone has their opinion about why the game went as it did, and mine is the defensive adjustments made by the Pirate staff. Blitz package was awesome, and disguised pretty well. Overloading one side of the line and changing plays out of that formation not too shabby either. One last thing...someone should send Jones a thank-you card. I doubt the season ends this way if he stayed...JMO

  40. Well, Elizabethton fell a little short with the loss to Tullahoma 21-14 in 2 OT (AAAA). Alcoa (AAA) won and Powell (AAAAA) won. Rhea County lost 3 games this year... two to state champs and the other to a runner up. It was a hard year for Rhea County, but they played a great schedule, played hard, and ended up with the qtr finals playoff appearance. They lost to the champs Powell. Congrats to all the State Champs!!! Gives them something to train for in the off season, get ready men!!!

  41. As long as Lowe is at Powell I hate to see them win.Hopefully now that he won a championship he will learn how to act and not make winning the only thing that matters.Saying that Im very happy for the 2 Powell guys on here OSnut and Knoxphoto.I hope yall enjoy it and have fun.Congrats to Page for fighting so hard.Much respect to these young guys who never quit.Runner up is a great season

  42. The most surprising thing to me about this season was Powell’s staff being able to overcome the constant tweeting (sometimes negative) from the QBs dad. Matt is a better man than me!
