Just look at where we were around this time last season. Dade last year wasn't as good as Murphy and NJ wasn't close. Pirates will be just fine need to keep working and get better every week. There's a lot of season left. All I know is I would rather lose a dog fight against a good football team than beat Grundy by 50.4 points

You are absolutely wrong about recruiting by City. Be careful what you accuse other programs of doing, especially when you have no information to back it up and data shows exactly the opposite. 99% of FHS players are “City lifers,” having been with us since Kindergarten or pre-K. Being a “City lifer” is something the students - athletes or not - take great pride in. With all due respect, I’m not saying this as “a guy in the stands.” I’ve been on the City School Board for 20 years. These young people love their school and obviously give their all every week preparing for every game. God has blessed them with many talents, and when these 16 seniors graduate next May, 17 Fayetteville Middle School 8th grade football players will move up as freshmen and begin working to maintain the high standards as FHS student-athletes. (Lots of other talented non-football players will move into FHS as well.) Frankly, no recruiting is necessary at City, and we absolutely do not and would not allow it.4 points

Still work to do but this team still appears to be ahead of last year at this time ... But then last year at this time we had only played 1 game and we're just about to find out that our coach was leaving. I hope this team gels like they did last year. I think they can, but will they?3 points

As always great to be a Pirate. The effort last night was there. Young me played hard but our defense really need some work. But still early in the season and will only get better as year goes on. I'm very impressed with our QB but I think we've fallen in love with the pass too much. I know you play with what you have or your strengths but still need a better mix in my opinion.3 points

You're like a little Child , no one from Maryville is Cocky or arrogant like you were a couple years ago when you talked smack all year long only to disappear for a full year because you looked so foolish . Maryville has up and down years just like every team , but the difference is with Maryville even on a down year they are dangerous . Unlike a few of my fellow Maryville fans I'm not ready to jump off a Bridge anytime soon . To be honest I had a few very positive thoughts about the Game last night . Our Defense played much better than they did against Farragut . We buckled down and stopped Alcoa several times and we definitely had a chance to win the Game at the end , a TD and extra point would of had us at 21-20 . Noah Vaughn proved once again that he is one of the best Running Backs to ever play at Maryville high School ... he was the best player on that field last night ... We definitely Blew up at the end of the Game and it wasn't just one player , it was a total team fiasco including the Coaches . Our Coaches have a great record of usually pulling the right strings in situations like this and definitely deserve the benefit of the Doubt and I think we will learn from our mistakes . Being positive about your Football team , especially when it's Maryville high School , doesn't mean you have your head in the sand or don't understand our team might have some weaknesses ... It just means as a Maryville fan we have seen some remarkable comebacks during the last 20 plus years ... to be honest , I haven't thought Maryville was going to lose a game beforehand for over 20 years . In 2010 Alcoa beat us and Maryville went on to win the 6A State Championship that year . Losing to Alcoa is something that nearly every other team in our State would also do ... nothing to be ashamed of . Being a winner isn't just how you react after a win ... being a real Champion is how you react to a loss . A hater like Mjgoldiebear will never understand that as a Maryville fan some of my proudest moments were when we actually lost a game . I've always mentioned how proud it's made me watching our boys run out on the field as a team and proudly hold that second place trophy up in a State Championship game . I've seen other teams react horribly , throwing helmets , not even going to get that trophy . To the Alcoa fans , Congratulations on your great Victory and thanks again for creating another Awesome Chapter in the Maryville Alcoa Rivalry . It truly was a great game and I must say for anyone who wasn't there , the atmosphere before the Game was completely off the Charts ! Standing room only and packed 10 deep in some places , and the Army Golden Knights show was one of the most spectacular scenes I've ever witnessed on that Football field , the members carrying the Alcoa and Maryville flags and then the Game ball was Amazing !!3 points

Meanwhile Jasper Jones is on his 2nd Canadian team since this time last year . . .2 points

on city’s locker room board last night, “paybacks a ######” was written, there’s a reason we played like we did, we took it disrespectful and we retaliated how any good football team should. We are comin for state yall boys just sit back and enjoy the ride.2 points

You all seem so worried about this? Just know That the coaching staff has nobody to blame but themselves. Morson was the worst thing to happen to this school.2 points

Agreed. For the amount of mistakes OR made, I wasn’t super impressed with the final score. I think OR defense definitely deserves some credit for why it wasn’t way worse. I feel like both teams are quality but I don’t think it’s either team’s best year. New QB’s, line issues…I did think OR’s run defense was impressive. I thought Farragut’s run defense still struggled some but was much improved and able to get stops when it counted. But yeah, assuming both teams get to playoffs- both will face better teams then they did last night. Then again, where you start isn’t always where you finish so hopefully improvements get made. For Farragut it comes down to line play and QB gaining enough experience to make the right decisions in high pressure situations. They’ve got to be able to consistently stop the run. If those things get shored up, we’d be in business.2 points

As is often the case when these two teams get together, the score was not indicative of the game and the outcome was determined by inopportune penalties and turnovers. The Farragut offense wasn’t able to do much running or passing against the Oak Ridge defense in the second half. I actually thought both teams got away from the run a little too much at times. The Oak Ridge 4th down option play was a bit of a head scratcher for me, for the most part because it hadn’t been run at any other time in the game and, if I remember correctly, it was into the boundary and I thought the QB/RB pitch relationship was a bit tight. At the same time, Farragut was up by 3 scores in the fourth quarter and started two drives off with incomplete passes… why throw it at all? I was glad Farragut was able to capitalize on a couple of the mistakes, but I came away thinking the Admirals were fortunate to get out with a win. If Oak Ridge doesn’t turn the ball over in plus territory (back to back penalties on the one possession didn’t help either), the outcome might have been entirely different. Good luck to the ‘Cats the rest of the way. Clean up the offensive mistakes, because that defense will keep you guys in every game.2 points

Too much talk of injuries and kids being "uncoachable". Stop with the excuses...take your lumps, get back to work, and move on!2 points

Old Pirate got to watch the whole game and youth is everywhere. The regular SP posters yap, as usual bout discipline while they openingly verbally attack teenage young men wearing the jocks. This team has potential to grow, the complete overhaul continues. Hopefully the team can clean up mistakes common to inexpensive & youth. The matchup was exactly what it was tagged to be for the entire 4 quarters. Congrats to Murphy on the “W” & taking home the bacon. The Pirates proved to be a worthy competitor displacing a never quit attitude & effort throughout the fued. Continued efforts & improved discipline will yield a chance to reach loftier goals. Some SP posters would be ejected for unsportsmanlike conduct, Ifin coacht was officiated like game officials. It is shameful how many constantly bash the players actually suited up doing the fighting. Each snap of the ball is like a street fight, which doubtful many complainers ever were good at. Regards to all the players dedicated enough to strap it up.2 points

The sky isnt falling yet Chicken Little you will still win the east and get one of those balls. No other team over here is a Murphy not close!2 points

Line play at SP is y’all’s downfall right now. A blind man could see it. Very impressed with the QB but y’all’s skill isn’t what it was last year however, it’s much better than I originally thought it would be. Measuring stick in the East in regular season is Whitwell. Clay County and Gordonsville is only other teams that have a chance to unseat y’all in the East. Cornbread capital will be alright. CCS week was apples to oranges talent wise and this week it was a great program that knows how to win and doesn’t beat itself. I’m just keeping it real.. Btw how many Seniors is on this SP team?2 points

Was we spoiled the last 5 years ? Yes from 1985-2015 h20 made 21 playoff appearances winning just 1 game. We all know that the window of opportunity to win a gold ball in football was narrow and h20 missesd out on that this round. We can blame it on the coaches or the players or just bad luck. ex. (hackett not on the sidelines in the biggest game of the year. H20 had a better team than tc a few of those years but walked away empty. That kind of talent does not come around this town often and it was nice being the Big dog on the block for a while. So yea the whole town, coaches, fans myself included were spoiled. We won 1 playoff game in 30 years. I think a lot of old fans are afraid of going down that dark road again. The talent is just not here like it was the last few years, but these kids are fighting their butts off.2 points

Oh my bad Warren County whose even worse than Wilson Central. And I’m not a fan of white county in the slightest but MJ fans always talk their crap until they take some loss and their season goes away like every year. The kid rushed for 400 against you all last year and y’all have a worse defense this year than last especially since Abner left. Congratulations y’all were on a 6 game losing streak and finally beat Hunters Lane and Warren County. Win something important first.2 points

I think whoever plays they have to get good calls. We are not doing quick slants at all. We have not done many out routes. Shoot we haven’t run the go like we did in both the scrimmage and the first game. These kids will miss throws. But two drops by 13 aren’t like him either and one was a TD drop that hit him in hands and the other was a catch he always makes on a one on one. They all just had a bad game. Chalk it up to a bad night and move on. First year qb has had us in all the games but this one. I’d say that’s a pretty good start. Get weapons back and it changes everything. We gave them many points that we don’t usually do.2 points

Good to see some parity and the law of averages making its way to the Creekbank. Tough to see complaints of MC running up the score given TC’s checkered past of running it up against far lesser opponents. I’m old enough to remember deficits of 50-60 fairly regularly.2 points

Finally getting around to typing out my thoughts from last night. South Pitt, you guys are a first class outfit. I love the amount of community support for your team. Every light pole in downtown having a Pirates banner on it was really cool. Also really cool that y'all basically shut town down on game night! I had several pleasant interactions with SP fans. All very respectful and willing to talk football for as long as you'd talk lol. I saw on our high school Facebook page several SP fans checking in and offering support for our fallen player. That means a lot. Nothing but respect for y'all and your program. Good luck the rest of the season, go get you boys another title.1 point

I’m a GHS fan, but the whining by the Greeneville radio play-by-play guy is growing old. He continually cries about the uniform penalties, which the long snapper had on consecutive snaps. He also had one against‘ Betsy the previous week. It is inexcusable to repeatedly get this same infraction. 180 yards in penalties is a major concern, and will be the difference in a close game. Spradlen MUST get this fixed.1 point

Yep, we can all have opinions and what each believes to be the truth can be subjective. I do have to wonder what your opinion of analysis from 2021 game has to to with last night and what multiple instat replays showed. Apples and oranges sir. Apples and oranges. Here is the deal. The holding calls against UC did not end up making absolutely any difference in the final outcome of last night's game. A smart coaching staff should still be ultra concerned about the penalties because against a stronger opponent they may not be so easy to overcome. And that is TRUTH.1 point

These people don’t realize we beat 5a and a top 3A team preseason 62-18 missing players. We could have put 200 on Wayne county no disrespect. #6 is a player but he can’t do it himself. They’ll make plays but last year our coach pulled 1st string out early. I promise you the mindset is different this year. Anything can happen that’s why games are played. Hope kids from both teams represent their communities well. The more people trash our team the harder these kids will play. Our problem can be motivation with the talent at times. So someone paint the board and turn off the Air conditioner in the locker room like Upperman did last night!1 point

I can live with this. Union City is the biggest surprise of the season at this point.1 point

Watertown is obviously young & talent is down! I truly believe the coaches is getting the most out of the kids. We have played some talented football teams. We haven't been playing red boiling springs.1 point

Community is not very good, but not because of the lack of players. Poor coaching continues to be the theme there. I will say that LC is getting better each week. The Sophomore QB has thrown for nearly 700 yds while completing 60% of his passes. LC is still a average team at this point who’s 3 wins are against poor teams.1 point

For someone who's been on here as a registered poster for two years, you really don't know squat. Why don't you take a few hours and go back through all those threads about the player ruled eligible then he was not. Or, you could read up on the Fayetteville player that came from Huntland. We don't have to go and recruit players like some others have to. We have players being approached to transfer away also!1 point

That’s the part that bothered me because he called them out by name. The other part that got me was when he said this was unacceptable because HE had never had a shutout in HIS CAREER before. But I’m for him and the team all the way. You just don’t say everything you think out loud.1 point

Lmao. The chest beating and projection here... Find one post from a Huntingdon fan saying we're great and know we'll beat UC. Sorry bud, but the Mustangs are the underdogs this year. Beat Riverside because they played a sloppy game. And we'll need the same to have a chance against Milan, Trenton, and UC. But we're gonna line up and play em all.1 point

Are there any more Bells available? Last night, almost anyone not named Bell or Grissom seemed like they did not want to be there. Including the staff. Moore's #6 and #23, I think they're still running. Forrest's band might want to consider learning "Yakety Sax" to play early and often when Forrest is on defense. I certainly felt like I was watching a bad Benny Hill rerun for most of the night. Unlike last week, this wasn't competitive. It wasn't a repeat of the Loretto game. It was worse. Much worse. The game was all but over in the 2nd quarter when Moore took a 27-7 lead and made it look like child's play. I'm not sure how good Moore is overall. But I am sure how bad Forrest is. This team has a chance to whiff the rest of the season. This wasn't a secondary thing. This was players flopping all over the field like a Bruce Lee movie where the dialogue is 5 seconds behind the video. Forrest players missed so many tackles it seemed like they were hitting the deck before contact was even made. More importantly, this team looks miserable. The staff, the athletes, the fans, the supporting cast. No one looks like they want to be anywhere near this program or this field right now. If that is the case they should just call it a season and we can get on to doing more important things. Almost anything else beats watching this team labor thru a game: Root canals, hanging by your toenails, being waterboarded, sitting thru a Joel Osteen sermon, a hunger strike, reading about QE II, doing your taxes, Spring cleaning in Oct., i mean heck, bring back "COVID" and let's just all stay at home. A couple of our remaining opponents might not have the game in hand til the second quarter in our absence anyway. I'll name a couple of opponents who might have the game in hand fairly quickly the rest of the way- anyone not named Summertown. MTP, Richland, Cascade, Marion, and ER might mercy rule this squad. Last night was very difficult to watch. You actually felt bad for the kids. For whatever it's worth, they don't seem like believers anymore. Watching Moore rack up 5 C notes on offense in about 10 plays, and watching them gain 7-10-15 yards a clip at will while Forrest moped, hung their heads, shrugged, hesitated, lunged 3 seconds too late, and more, I mean, it's inhumane. There's a team down the road called the Vikings that does this for a living. But it's not supposed to be the Forrest way. Unfortunately, I do believe that Forrest has faced a half dozen or so of the best athletes in Middle Tennessee small ball the last two weeks. I will grant them that. But it's one thing to get beat. It's another to completely cave. None of us is perfect in this life. We all do a face plant in various ways and multiple times. But I think everyone associated with the program needs to have a real dialogue internally. Do you want to have a season? Do you want to make the playoffs? Do you want to be competitive? And it starts with the head man himself. If getting boat raced in a complete laugher to a 1A team at homecoming doesn't increase scrutiny on Coach Eli, nothing will. I've made my opinions known on here for 4 years. An intervention is needed. Imagine these families who have slaved and sweated and sacrificed, with time and dollars and the emotion it takes to invest in this, and having last night be the result. I'm being 100% serious. This town, fan base, its former athletes, and its history and tradition deserve MUCH much better. There are some great fans and people in Chapel Hill and all over the state that love this team. Maybe none more than me, but there was no joy last night. Was like watching a dying animal come to grips with its fate. In the 5 stages of grief, eventually, you reach "acceptance." A few times in the last 10 hours, I considered that I might be there. But I'm not. I still think winning out and making the playoffs is out there. Call me crazy. But I'd like to give the PA announcer something to get excited over besides announcing that someone's Volvo is blocking another car. Who even knew people owned Volvos in Bedford anyways? It was certainly a night of revelations. Speaking of Revelations, the apocalypse is nigh for Forrest if some things don't get fixed quickly. Thankfully, Summertown is at your doorstep. But can you imagine if this is a close game late? Summertown's defense might have some tricks up their sleeve. If this is a 6-3 game in the 4th, either way, we are looking at a potential total collapse. Even if you get thru the Eagles, Marion awaits. Speaking of root canals, The Bells' daddy is a dentist, right?1 point

Huntingdon's offensive line was outplayed all night. Granted they were outnumbered. Huntingdon's defensive front was run over all night. Penalties and fumbles killed multiple drives that Riverside had. Don't get me wrong I am glad Huntingdon won but that is about as ugly a win you can have. Riverside turned the ball over when they were not even touched a couple times. They put the ball on the ground multiple times that cost them downs. Not sure on stats but I bet there was less than 100 yards difference in total yards and get beat by 26?1 point

While I do not condone the things that were said in the video, I find it a bit ironic that during a timeout on the field a song was played that was way more vulgar than Osovets locker room talk. The f bomb was used while the rapper was describing all the things he was doing to a female. It is odd to me how an athletic director that shared the video on his personal Twitter and wanted to point fingers at Heritage allowed that to be played.1 point
